Grounds are pretty with golf course. Nice alternative to city centre hotel.
Full of men swearing, bad noise insulation in rooms, scalding hot water in bathroom sink (no cold!), tea that turns rancid in rooms, staff on reception who don’t care (Mia), rooms above bin area with associated noise. Too many people - can’t imagine what spa & golf booking would be like!
Lovely room great location and enjoyed the pool.
Restaurant menu could have included a couple of specials.
The staff were friendly and helpful and stored luggage for us when we checked out. The jacuzzi good. The request for a feather free room was met on check in (for some reason this often takes a while to sort out at other establishments.
The pool could be deeper and with swim lanes. We arrived early and it would have been good if we had been allowed to use the pool while waiting. The bed was very soft.
Room: The room was comfortable, clean and met expectations. No issues to report.
Breakfast: Breakfast was disappointing. While there was a reasonable continental selection, the hot food was only warm rather than hot and did not appear particularly fresh. The eggs, in particular, were overcooked and had a rubbery texture. Overall, breakfast felt functional rather than something that reflected the standard I would expect from the hotel.
Dinner: Unfortunately, the restaurant experience was the weakest part of my stay. The food itself was acceptable, but the service was poor. Staff interactions often felt abrupt, with basic courtesy and hospitality noticeably lacking. When I raised concerns regarding the service, I was told that nothing could be done on-site and that I would need to contact the General Manager directly by email. I requested a phone call instead, but no call was ever received.
What concerned me most was not the individual service issues, but the apparent lack of ownership when they were raised. Mistakes and poor experiences happen in every business; what matters is how they are handled. The impression left was that this level of service had become accepted and that there was little interest in resolving concerns at the time they occurred.
Overall, the accommodation was perfectly satisfactory, but the restaurant service and handling of customer feedback were disappointing and fell well below the standard I would have expected.
Dinner was absolutely top notch. Breakfast was also very good. We upgraded to a Supreme room, which came with a walk-in shower, and a minibar. The room was exceptional. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit, and cannot wait to come back
We couldn’t fault anything
Everything was lovely.
There was nothing to indicate what drinks were free in the room.
The spa gym
We tried to book afternoon tea over the phone. An hour later we hadn’t heard back, after arriving and queueing to speak to the chap behind the desk who said he would get back to us, he sent us to the bar to ask and we were 1 mins too late!
No tablecloths and the table at breakfast wasn’t wiped down. There were crumbs on the seats too.
We booked a superior room which was smaller than the other room we had booked. We struggled to see what we were getting for the extra money.
Beautiful grounds and building , very tastefully decorated
Bookings.com offered a deal to book late checkout , its didn’t apply it to the two rooms booked under my name and found it difficult to navigate how to do this ,this then meant it cost me £30 more as the hotel would not honour the second room at the same price .
Everything
Cannot adjust booking date or get voucher
excellent
it was all good
Lots of character and lovely feel about it
I didn’t like that you couldn’t use the spa after 11am on the day of check out, considering we’d paid quite a lot for the room it would have been nice to use the facilities once checked out.
Lovely hotel
Location was amazing surrounded by countryside. You don't notice how close to the city of Leeds you are. It had a wonderful atmosphere grand but serene with wonderful furniture paintings and chandeliers and luxurious carpeting. Friendly welcoming staff couldn't have done more very professional.
The room we stayed in was a lovely large room spotlessly clean something I note being an asthmatic. Plenty of space cupboards, wardrobes, space for luggage.
Great value for money.
If you want a great time away relaxing this is a great place to visit. Great parking and areas inside and out to sit and chill. I had a mango mocktail amazing. We had dinner in the Calverley grill wonderfull, cooked to perfection. The best breakfast so much choice
Definitely recommend this hotel and will be back soon
Me and my friends go regularly to the Claret jug walking our dogs.We are usually served by 2 lovely welcoming and polite ladies Janine and Claudia who provide fantastic service.
Spent a lovely evening in The Claret Jug with friends.
The setting is fantastic, out on the terrace looking down the 18th.
The service from Claudia was great, our table was kept clean and glasses full all evening always with a smile and the football chat from Janine at the bar was entertaining.
Thanks
