We are currently staying at the Thalassas Hotel in Coral Bay and felt compelled to write this review before we’ve even left – that’s how good it is!
The views are absolutely stunning, and a little tip for future guests: odd-numbered rooms have an even better view, which makes an already beautiful setting extra special.
The food is exceptional. There is plenty of choice at every meal, everything we’ve tried has been delicious, and the presentation is superb, restaurant-quality dining every day.
What really sets this hotel apart, though, is the staff. They genuinely cannot do enough for you. Everyone is warm, friendly, and attentive, with so many thoughtful extra touches that make you feel truly cared for as a guest. From wine and snacks waiting in our room, to sandwiches provided when our flight was delayed and we missed dinner, nothing is ever too much trouble.
The festive touches have been wonderful. Every room received a lovely Christmas gift, and the Christmas Eve gala was absolutely amazing, beautifully organised, festive, and memorable.
We’re still here and are already looking forward to tomorrow night’s New Year’s Eve gala dinner, which we have no doubt will be just as fantastic.
This hotel has exceeded all expectations and has made our stay feel genuinely special. We would highly recommend Thalassas Hotel and will most definitely return.
Thank you to the entire team for an unforgettable experience
All the above comments are accurate, so we will add a few thoughts to help you understand there are a few faults, and a few advantages:
(Neither the hotel or 'Mercury holidays' asked for opinions) We were given a lovely 7th floor room overlooking Coral bay public beach &hills behind, but room726 also had an a aircon outlet on the balcony which gave a loud &constant hum. We asked to move, &after 4days we moved to a lower quiet room,by which we discovered a useful lift down to the beach bar. Several other couples had reasons to need to change, (one couple found it a difficult hotel with a wheel chair ) &it was always done very amicably when they had a room.
Coral bay is ideal for walking along coastal paths (tracks and newly made paths) westwards straight from the hotel, and on a little bus further west, or on a frequent bus towards Paphos town. From there the coast path is available for miles, to walk run or cycle. But the peace and quiet of the Thalassa makes it the best place to stay.
A lovely hotel on a peninsula with great sea views. This hotel is a bit remote from any major town, a bus ride or taxi is necessary. I love this hotel because there is no pop music playing anywhere and a dress code is expected in the restaurant at evening meals. As it should be for a 5 star hotel. My room was cleaned daily, the food is excellent, the facilities are great but what makes this hotel work is the staff. I need to thank the manager,Suminder and Panayotis on reception. Himal for always smiling,Larisa for her elegant charm, Stella and Dawan always attentive, Naome for keeping our room clean. Not forgetting catering, maintenance and the lobby boys. A wonderful three weeks in a fantastic spot.
We returned home 2 days ago after a one week stay at Thalassa. I can only say we felt truly spoiled. We were warmly welcomed with a complimentary drink while we completed check in. On arrival in our room there were chocolates fruit and wine - an unexpected treat. We’d never experienced all inclusive before and were surprised and delighted at the choice of food available at all mealtimes. The choice at breakfast time was incredible. Each evening meal has a different theme to try. As soon as we’d chosen our food and settled at our table, a smiling member of staff arrived with water and took our wine order. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff whether restaurant, bar or domestic with their professional yet friendly attitude. The all inclusive drink package was very good with an excellent selection available to suit all tastes, I can definitely recommend the Pina Colada! The whole hotel is spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated. There were plenty of sunbeds around the pool area with more in the garden by the beach bar and on the beach. We didn’t use the indoor pool, gym or spa facilities but did have a look and like the rest of the hotel, looked lovely. We were so lucky with the position of our room with a spectacular view over the pool and right across Coral Bay to see the sunrise. If you wish to venture out, the Main Street of Coral Bay is only a 20 minute walk away. There is a bus stop nearby which goes into Paphos, we noticed that the buses ran very regularly, probably about every 15 minutes. We had a very relaxing week made even better by the warm November weather. The only criticism if I’m nit picking is to say the bathrooms would benefit from updating but the quality toiletries more than made up for this, I expect this could be in the plans for the future. Thank you to everyone at Thalassa for making our week in Cyprus so enjoyable, you’ve all been amazing.
Our third time at this wonderful hotel and it continues to be our favourite by a mile.
Everything we prioritise when choosing a holiday destination are realised in The Thalassa.
We communicated with Andri following our conversation at our last visit to request a high floor and it was granted. Thank you Andri and Maria. The staff are outstanding and go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and relaxed. Dear Dipendra remembered us and made our holiday with his charming customer interactions and his winning smile.
The chef and the team engage in great conversation as you discuss and celebrate the variety of food which is the best we have ever had in our extensive travels.
The drinks are good however if like us you make the decision to select the all inclusive package it would be good to see more of the branded drinks and popular cocktails included.
The al la carte restaurant is delightful and offers a relaxed atmosphere as you select from a small but well selected menu.A warm starter, as in previous years would have been a welcomed addition.
All areas of the hotel including the bedrooms are maintained to a high standard and we liked nothing more than relaxing in the evening listening to the low key entertainment. We loved the location, the amazing food at breakfast, lunch and dinner, the quality of the rooms and views from them but the factor that will ensure that we return again next year are the genuinely kind and professional staff and management that create an intimate and welcoming atmosphere.
Thank you to all of you and do not change a thing.
We were very happy with the hotel. The room was lovely (but sometimes noisy at 3am when the bin lorry arrived), the food was excellent (much better than we expected - it was consistently good) and the staff were superb - so friendly and helpful. This is a super hotel.
This Hotel/Resort is well worth a visit if you prefer a quiet location
Adults Only.100 Rooms.
Adequate (number of) sun beds.
Lovely friendly staff.
Buffet food is good and well presented.
Warm Plate stacks we're sometimes cold.
Scenically lovely .
Would recommend reserving a front pool facing room .
Rooms are adequate comfortable but bathroom required an update ..a bit tired.
I would consider returning to this Hotel.
We have just returned from a 7 night holiday at this hotel. It was simply brilliant, the staff were all very friendly and helpful and the food was wonderful with a different theme each day. We had great views of the ocean and saw beautiful sunsets each evening from our balcony. The cocktails were very good and we he bar staff very friendly, nothing was too much trouble from them. Reception staff were great giving lots of information. Our room was nice and cleaned everyday. The hotel Manager should be very proud of his/staff. Would love to visit once again. Very happy memories.
My wife and I enjoyed a hugely enjoyable week's stay. The hotel is on a peninsula so rooms on both sides have stunning sea views. Ours was 611, which faced Paphos across the bright blue sea of Coral Bay. The hotel is adults only and had a classy feel. We had wonderful weather from Nov 5th to 12th and being towards the end of the season, the atmosphere was quiet and very relaxing. The food was excellent and, although not all drinks were included in our all-inclusive package, there was more than enough choice. The sandy beach was a stone's throw away down some steps and the sea ideal for swimming and snorkelling. All the staff were friendly and my wife made good use of the spa and indoor pool. We experienced an earthquake on the final day, which shook the hotel for several seconds, but was considered nothing out of the ordinary by the locals. Hard to find fault with the the holiday, which was one of our best.
Bathrooms require some refurbishments...
Whilst functional clean and adequate it is sometimes difficult for aged people to climb in and out of a bath to get under a shower.
After reading multiple previous TripAdvisor reviews, I chose Thalassa for some R&R with a close friend to celebrate my birthday last week. You know when you read reviews and people say what friendly staff, what a perfect location, what excellent service etc.? Well in this case it all turned out to be absolutely and completely true. From Andros the Lifeguard to Khim the doorman, and all in-between, I saw nothing but smiles and experienced so much helpfulness and genuine happiness.
The somewhat 'hidden' hotel beach bar with its ~20 sunbeds, right next to Corel Bay beach, was a real gem. Also a very well stocked Supermarket in close walking distance and a 20 minute walk to the local strip where, even in November, everything was open.
Spa was fantastic, service was outstanding, food was gorgeous and, unlike other hotel experiences, I saw no one complaining about anything, and rightly so!
We had a blast and would be happy to return in the blink of an eye.
We have just got home from this lovely hotel after a wonderful 10 days.
Rooms:-
We had a pool view room on the 6th floor which was lovely! Although our friends had a sunset view room which was equally lovely.
All Inclusive:-
Food - we couldn’t find fault with any of the food in the all inclusive option.
Drinks - not everything is all inclusive but we didn’t have any issues.
Location:-
On a beautiful headland overlooking Coral Bay and on the other side, Corallia Beach. Stunning!
There are a couple of shops and bars nearby but the main strip is only a 20 minute walk away.
Hotel:-
Fantastic with indoor pool and spa.
Staff:-
For us, the staff made our holiday! I’ve never seen so many happy, smiley people who genuinely want to make your holiday the best it can be. This was all staff - cleaning, catering, pool, reception, bar staff etc. There are too many of us to name them individually but we have to say a special thank you to Jhoti who went above and beyond.
Would we go back - absolutely yes!
Driving in from Larnaca we were thinking about the positive experience last year at this hotel to which we'd returned after it'd been closed for some time post-Covid wondering "Will it be the as good?" Pleased to report it was, and in some respects improved.
As always, we had a second-floor corner suite, and as it'd always been, it was fabulous. Wonderful big comfortable bed, good enough air conditioning (though could probably use an overhaul to make it excellent) and a super spacious area, all kept pristine by an excellent housekeeping staff. Hotel and grounds were, as always, fantastic, the pool lovely and never overcrowded, the excellent Coral Bay beach a short walk downstairs.
Dining was good to excellent - we opted for Half Board (HB) most nights and the dinner buffet was was perfectly fine - some nights (Asian, BBQ, Mediterranean) really good, others not quite so much to my taste, but always well cooked, deserts, though, a little samey day-on-day. Breakfasts were fantastic, a lot of good fresh fruit and other cooked options which were very good. In addition to the terrific value HB, an All-Inclusive (AI) offer exists which we did not take up this time, but still seems to be good value for money if you enjoy an alcoholic drink or several during the course of a day. I can attest that they do a lovely Pina Colada.
Past experience, for us at least, is that one of the things that has always made the hotel is the staff and they were, as usual, excellent. Particular shout outs go to: Navi, Sumitra and the newly recruited gentleman on Reception; Aristos (maybe the only 'old' Thalassa staff member still in situ) - an engaging and charming guy who's top notch at what he does and runs the Psari (the upmarket restaurant) superbly; the Nepalese waiting staff especially Dipendra (smiley), always upbeat and can't do enough for you and Enna from Hosekeeping. Last, but definitely not least, Andri, the General Manager. I said it last year, and I'll say again... the Thalassa is in good hands.
I don't mind admitting that I'm a sucker for cats, and the hotel has a number of them. Much ongoing respect to Aristos and the staff who do look after them. Compassion and humanity like this deserves singling out for due praise.
Really pleased to see that things have gone well enough that the hotel no longer closes at the end of this month and will stay open through the winter. I hope this change works out. We'll definitely be back next year.
Had a wonderful, relaxing holiday at this fabulous hotel. Stunning location & 5 star service from check in to departure. Lovely sea view from the sunset side of the hotel (room 604). Booked B&B only but ended up eating in the hotel most nights as the food was so good. Plenty of choice for me as a vegetarian, a different theme to the buffet every evening & great wine list. Ate at Psari a-la-carte restaurant one night, lovely meal with excellent service from Tharistos & Prandip (a lovely young man who also attended us at breakfast/evening buffet - always smiling & very helpful). My only negative from this was that there was little choice for a vegetarian, however what I had was delicious.
The pool area is fantastic plenty of sunbeds & umbrellas, fresh towels available all day from the helpful pool attendants and drinks delivered when needed. There are also private sunbeds on the beautiful beach for hotel guests. Was pleased, after the first day, to discover there the lift available which takes you down to the beach bar - great for those of us with restricted movement. Food at the beach bar is great for lunch
What makes this hotel stand out, apart from the location, are the staff - everyone was great, super friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Special mention & thanks to Jyoti in the Captains Bar, Prandip, Bikal and Diphendra in the restaurant.
We also hired a car during our stay, organised by reception for us. Had a great 2 days exploring more of this beautiful island. Bonus that they drive on the left!
We rarely return to a hotel given there is so much to see in the world, however we will definitely return here soon
I checked my calendar. This was our ninth stay at the Thalassa. Would have been more but for the pandemic. We even managed to get out after our flight and holiday was lost due to Thomas Cook collapsing in 2019.
So. This time. We stayed for three weeks. Twentieth of August to tenth of September.
Quick mention of the flights. Birmingham to Paphos with TUI. Got to Paphos at lunchtime which is a lovely difference. We normally arrive after ten PM. Time to unpack and get ready for dinner.
The aircraft was a 787-8 which was huge. I’ve never had so much legroom! (I’m 6’7”). Very very comfortable….
The Thalassa
Just gets better and better. A huge amount of work was done to reopen the place for last year and it’s lovely. The hotel sits along the Maas peninsula so all the rooms have a sea view. We prefer “Sunset” so we looked out over Coralia bay (“Sunrise” looks over the pool, gardens and Coral bay)
The basic rooms are a large bedroom with a balcony window. The window has net curtains as well as sun block curtains.
Wardrobe corridor with safe and kettle then en suite. All quite modern with a timber floor and rough cast finish walls. The en suites have a tiled floor. Our room had a large bath as well as a shower. Theres a control for the air conditioning on the bedroom wall.
Our double bed was huge. Something like eight foot wide! Dressing table with hair dryer in the top drawer. Lots of storage space with around ten coat hangers in the wardrobe. Minibar beneath the kettle shelves. There’s a modern flatscreen TV too. The room was very very nice. The balcony is quite large and has a couple of chairs and a table. We sat out there and enjoyed the sunset a few times.
The ground floor has Reception, The Ambrosia dining room and the Captains bar as well as a large lounge area. The food in the Ambrosia is marvellous with a different nationality theme each evening. There are large outside terraces with tables chairs and outdoor sofas all along the sunrise side.
We had lunch most days in the Ippokampos beach bar. Set in a bowl beneath the Psari wing of the hotel it overlooks Coral Bay and has really great staff and chefs.
For A La Carte dining we went to Psari once a week. Psari is overseen by Aristos. Superb food and service with a fantastic view looking over Coral bay again.
Gym and Spa on the next floor down. The gym is full of very modern commercial standard equipment. A couple of treadmills, cross trainer, exercise bike plus weights.
The inside pool is on the lowest level. Visible through the glass wall of the Gym.
The outside pool on the sunrise side is very nice. Surrounded on all sides by sunbeds there’s a member of staff on hand to issue towels and assist with moving sun beds and umbrellas. There are steps down to Coral bay and the beach bar.
The three weeks was excellent. As I’ve said before the staff really are all extremely good! We’re looking forward to our next visit.
Couple of tips
We used the Sea Caves taxi firm for our airport trips. They’re based just in front of the Coral Beach hotel next door. We booked via email both for arrival and departure. All other trips to Coral Bay and Paphos were on the 615 bus. Bus stop opposite the Coral Beach main entrance. Bus was every 15 to 20 minutes. Follow the Thalassa on social media. There are offers advertised on their page.
We arrived a little bit later than expected due to our flight being delayed. In our room was sandwiches, crisps, fruit, chocolates and a bottle of red wine!
The bedroom was lovely, huge and airy. Cleaned every day.
The bar staff inside and those whose who brought you drinks to you on your sun loungers in 30 degree heat were brilliant!
Always clean towels by the pool every day and the Pool Attendant came round in the afternoon with FROZEN FLANNELS. These were so welcoming.
We enjoyed the food at breakfast time, and there was no queues at any time for meals. All very civilised. A mixture of ages which was lovely.
I had a massage at the Spa. Well worth it!
We are missing the Thalassa already and hope to return next year!
Fabulous beach views and facilities. The hotel staff were amazingly helpful and friendly. We will definitely return.
Amazing hospitality! I had a very pleasant stay at the boutique hotel! Very nice facilities and very delicious food! Very nice and large swimming pool! I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to enjoy their holidays! I would definitely come back again very soon!
Have stayed many many times it’s changed over the years but equally as relaxing.
For everyone looking relaxation, perfect cozy atmosphere, stunning sea view and top service. Very clean hotel with nice sourounding and picturesque Coral Bay.
Rooms are very comfort and cleanliness is high. Maybe there could be some updates done but must say with polite and kind staff, you are not bother with "older doors".
Food is here another level. Just perfect!
Home away from home.
Thank you all for making our holiday so nice.
