Lovely welcome, very beautiful room, wonderful location.
We liked everything! Would be handy to have some plug sockets closer to the bed, but appreciate it's a beautiful building so that probably wouldn't be possible! Wasn't an issue as there were quite a few throughout the room anyway.
When we arrived at the hotel the receptionist was very welcoming. We liked everything, the food was good. The gardens of the hotel were absolutely stunning. Where the hotel was situated was very convenient for visiting Beamish museum and Durham.
The service at the bar could be a bit better, but it did improve after the first day of the stay.
I think the breakfast is a good standard of hotel food, the price reflects the quality of the hotel rather than the food itself as you'd expect a good quality butchers sausage/bacon etc.. for the standard of hotel. The hotel itself is beautiful and well cleaned. My cousin and I both said the main reception area could do with something grand adding, making it more inviting and giving it the wow factor as you walk in. I think the building deserves it as is steeped in history, and you'd expect it due to the effort put into maintaining the beautiful floral grounds (just a personal opinion) The staff were all polite and well trained in their jobs they kept on top of everything throughout the day/evening of the wedding holding a polite and attentive attitude, same as all of the staff over at the stables. Thank you for making it a special day for Tom, Jack and guests.
Flowers are stunning. Gardening staff brilliant and so interesting to talk to.
Very well staffed and all staff very friendly.
First night food a bit slow in restaurant and menu is a little limited - however I understand to make restaurant profitable and not wasteful there can so much on the menu.
A nice room and the ability to easily adjust the radiator temperature was great. Often the heating system in hotel rooms can be daunting or inefficient, and you end up usually too hot, but not in this case.
I don't usually use the lift, but did on this occasion. The lift is very small, and the noises and bumps did nothing to instil confidence
The hotel and surroundings were amazing. The staff were very helpful.
Special mention for Julia who helped me organise my trip.

Breakfast was very nice & food cooked well with various options for breakfast & evening meal. Staff very helpful & polite.
Great accommodation & service, but expensive and affordable for a treat or special occasion.
Friendly staff everywhere we went.
The breakfast was freshly cooked and was hot which is rare when staying in hotels. It was also served on hot plates- excellent!!
Couldn't initially find the hairdryer, maybe better stored in a drawer instead of wardrobe but not a big deal
