Pros:

The staff were very nice, the room was well laid out, there was a good view. There was a very large TV in the room. The location is very good, near to the train station.

Cons:

The Sauna and Steam room were out of order. There was no drinking water in the room. Sometimes there was a long wait for the lifts.

Comfy, economical welcoming hotel with parking
Pros:

Location was brilliant as we attended a function close by. Room was clean & spacious, bed was comfy. Pleasant surprise to find walk in shower & a bath. Car park was a bonus

Cons:

Bit of an odd layout with toilet separate to bathroom - not even a sink with the toilet!
Very limited supply of tea/coffee etc in the room - could have done with more.
Bar drinks tasted odd- not sure if diluted but not very nice, all 4 of us guests agreed & each had something different. Didn’t stay for a second drink.

Comfy bed but so much noise from Friar Street - surely a quieter room was available?!
Pros:

I've stayed here - and in the Ibis next door - before and have always had an excellent stay. This time, I stayed for my birthday in February and was disappointed.

My partner and I checked in pretty late (just before midnight!)

We were given a room on the third floor. We quickly got unpacked then went to bed. It soon became clear that we weren't going to have a very peaceful night!

The room was facing onto Friar Street, which was in full swing on a Saturday night. My partner and I both always use ear plugs for sleep, even at home. But it was still incredibly noisy through our ear plugs.

I understand that this is a hotel in a busy town centre so, staying on a Saturday night, you can probably expect some street noise. But I doubt very much that the hotel was fully booked in February. So, I'm sure they could have given us a better positioned room - not one only three floors up and directly facing onto the bars and clubs of Friar Street.

We couldn't face getting out of bed, getting dressed, getting packed up again and going back down to reception to see if there was a quieter room we could move to. So, we stayed put – and had a poor night's sleep.

The other thing I didn't like this visit – and I don't remember encountering this in other rooms we've stayed in here before – is the separate toilet and bathroom. I don't mind them being separate per se, but they were quite far away from each other. You had to come out the loo, then walk round the corner, past the bed, and then go into the bathroom. This was annoying (especially in the dark in the middle of the night) and it also didn't feel hygienic, having to walk that far from the loo before you could get to the sink in the bathroom to wash your hands.

There are still good things about this hotel, including:
- Convenient central location
- Large, comfortable beds
- Very clean room
- There's on-site parking, which has to be booked in advance (it's £21 - we parked in the Broad Street Mall car park instead, which is just a few minutes walk away and only cost £8 for 24 hours)

I think we just had bad luck this time with the room we were given. Based on previous stays I had expected to be giving 4 or 5 stars here. But not being able to wash my hands as soon as I'd been to the loo, and not being able to get to sleep for hours (even wearing earplugs) made for a disappointing stay this time.
