Staff a nd room were very nice
The fact that I paid $615 forn2 nights and could not get a decent machine coffee without paying extra and bo coffee machine in our room and no room service with food.
Room is pleasant and bed comfortable
Staff are very friendly and helpful
Breakfast did not meet expectations for the price
Would be nice if pillows were king size to match bed, pillows super soft or super hard
Couch in one bedroom apartment not very comfortable
It was centrally located, close to everything that we needed easy access to.
Nothing.
Great location. room was huge and well set out. Very clean bright and we loved it
The room was amazing, close to.public transport and eateries, staff were extremely helpfull and polite
Nothing at all
It was a good sized room and met our needs
The toilet needs work on it and doesn't flush properly. We did not have room service and new towels etc were not part of our stay, however staff came in to the room and moved our belongings, changed only the hand towels, made the beds which we were not comfortable with and were not expecting. When we notified staff of this, they didn't show care and only offered wine which is not a good enough apology.
Great service, the rooms were spacious and clean. We loved the gym and the sauna, as well as the buffet breakfast. The location was ideal for us, close to Melbourne Central, Bourke street and a short drive to Docklands and South Wharf.
Truly, nothing. It met all our expectations and more.
Located in the perfect location for fine dining and access to shops. Room was very spacious and very clean. Staff were extremely quick to rectify any issues
10am checkout. 11am would have been ideal
Location was good , reception staff were good however the man at the breakfast was a bit rude only greeted some guests but not others and I found the breakfast was overpriced for what was there .
I won't be returning to stay here .
TripAdvisor Complaint Summary – Stay 20–21 Feb 2026
Our stay at Mantra on Russell was extremely disappointing due to poor communication, lack of assistance, and several avoidable issues.
We accidentally parked at the wrong Mantra hotel because staff repeatedly insisted the location was “obvious” and never warned us that there are multiple Mantra properties nearby. No concierge assistance was offered to relocate the car, and the hotel refused to reimburse the $46 parking cost. Staff responses were defensive rather than helpful and showed little empathy or willingness to resolve the situation.
At 79 years old, with a pacemaker, we were left to carry our luggage between Mantra properties on what was described as a 13-minute walk but took closer to 20 minutes uphill on crowded footpaths in the heat. No staff offered assistance. When we later mentioned difficulties during the experience, the reaction from staff was dismissive.
Other problems added to the frustration:
We were not told that key cards were required to activate the lights.
Phone reception initially failed.
Directions to the car park via Little Queen Street were confusing and unsafe, requiring reversing and multiple attempts to enter.
A staff member directed us to level five of the Russell Street parking area, leaving us locked behind a gate with no working call button.
The room temperature was too cold (set around 19.5°C) and could not be adjusted comfortably.
Breakfast arrangements were not explained on arrival.
A false fire alarm at 6:45 am required evacuation.
The minibar contained only a small long-life milk, with no other drink options or simple biscuits for tea/coffee.
Our room (306) faced a nearby office tower with dark glass, meaning occupants could see in while we had no privacy and had to keep the curtains closed.
Finally, exiting the very steep, narrow car park felt dangerous. The tap-card door release is positioned halfway up the incline and our vehicle rolled backwards when the anti-rollback failed, creating a risk of collision.
Overall, the experience lacked the care, communication, and practical assistance expected from a hotel of this standard, particularly for older guests.
