Highly recommend Hotel DeLa Gavina first class accommodation, fabulous staff, wonderful idyllic location, and amazing breakfast!
A beautiful hotel - a feast for the eyes!
What an amazing place! We came for a friend’s wedding and were blown away by every aspect of this place. The staff is so incredibly friendly and accommodating. The food was delicious. Whether you are looking for a wedding venue or just a vacation away, this is the place - look no further. 10/10 experience, not one critique.
my wife and I can’t even begin to describe how breathtakingly beautiful Hostal de La Gavina is - both the views and the people working at the hotel. We had our wedding here and the staff here made sure that we never picked up a bag, always had everything fresh, and were always ready to answer any call we had.
Our guests (which were somewhere between 80-90 people at the hotel specifically) walked away with nothing but amazing things to say about the hotel, the staff, the views, amenities, EVERYTHING.
If I could give this review six stars I would, and we are already planning a trip back so we can enjoy more of S’Agaro and what the hotel offers!
It is a stunning hotel in an outstanding area of beauty. A world- class experience!
Really lovely hotel if you like good old fashioned riviera glamour. We stayed for 2 nights and throughout our stay the staff were all really lovely and attentive. I asked to borrow a steamer for my dress and it was with us within minutes. The main "gastronomic" restaurant was closed both nights were were there. We ate on the lawn/terrace the first night. The food was good, although the service was a little slow but it seemed like that was a function of the fact the main restaurant was closed as they were very busy and it seemed some staff on the terrace weren't that familiar with their systems. The second night we had dinner at the Taverna del Mar (related but outside of the resort) which was excellent. Will review that separately.
The walk around the cliffs was really lovely with some incredible views and lots of info on the old hollywood links of the place.
Puesta en escena muy buena, zonas comunes, piscina pero… necesita una renovación profunda, no pueden tener esos precios y tener baños de los 80
Magic. Don’t miss the Candelight diner: fantastic! Both the ambiance, the service , and of course the food which we will remember for a long time and..come back for!
This 200 hindered year old Hotel is nestled atop the Beach of Platja De San Pol. It offers an incredible view of the bay and beaches below that are only minutes on foot. Inside the hotel is classically decorated in time appropriate furniture bringing you back in time to the 1800’s. You room however will be tastefully updated with modern amenities and current comforts.
I highly recommend above all else to book reservations anywhere you want to eat, as most restaurants are at capacity prior to your arrival. There’s plenty of options to eat, relax, and shop!
The service here is impeccable with all hotel staff eager to serve in anyway possible. If you love days at the pool, they offer a massive infinity edge pool cliffside with a stunning view. The food menu at the pool is very limited, but mostly bar service focused. The seating is ample so no need to rush to reserve seats, unless you are wanting a private Cabana with your own shower and restroom I’d book those ahead.
The area is charming and mostly filled with Spanish locals taking holiday and second home owners that visit for the summer. I highly recommend this as a destination stay, and you have options to visit great Medieval Towns like Girona and Begur for day trips.
Beautiful views from all over the property. Accommodations were very clean. Tremendous artwork in every part of the hotel. Will be returning in May for daughter’s wedding. If the food is as good as the tasting we will be overjoyed. Staff was friendly and helpful.
A lovely hotel in a beautif setting. We had a very good classic room with a balcony and a view over both sides of the promentory. The staff were lovely and we liked the traditional design. So much care must have been taken when it was built to incorporate Catalan craftsmanship with a dash of modernity. The bathroom was excellent with a spacious shower. There were several restaurants to choose from. It was a very relaxing week and we hope to return. One of our best holidays.
Pro's
Excellent breakfast
Wonderful Ernesto the doorman who is charming, kind and has lots of initiative
Beautiful location
Lots of old school charm
Gorgeous pool (a bit chilly!)
Con's
The service is no where near 5*
Bar and restaurant food very average
Zero sound proofing. From my room I could hear the lift going up and down, people talking in next door room and, worse of all, a wedding party playing music till 4am
I never saw a manager in 5 days - that was very telling. I even asked to speak to one to share my feedback and I was told no one available.
No attention to detail - despite the pool area being manned you had to get your own towel, drinks etc.
The staff uniforms look cheap and ill-fitting
Overall I wouldn't recommend, particularly for the price. A leading hotel of the world needs to provide a certain level of experience and this hotel does not. It feels like it's living off its reputation based on its history, rather than what it offers today. A shame.
Thank you for a wonderful stay; ALL the staff were charming, helpful and discreet,
having known the hotel since 1950 just for drinks and lunch, it was a joy to stay and not be disappointed, to stay in a hotel that still keeps the feeling of how the old style top hotels are with the great twist of bring it up 2024 just made it a joy.
Spectacular setting with an elegant and comfortable hotel. The staff are top flight and since our trip last fall we have been back once and are returning again this fall. We have traveled extensively and this is a special place with caring owners and high quality staff!
Worst hotel that we’ve ever been to! It’s a complete dump and looks NOTHING like their website. The reception area is old and underwhelming & the rooms are even worst! This isn’t a luxury hotel at all!! It’s smells disgusting and our room smelled musty. We’d never go back there again. Save your money! We ended up eating at Villa Mas and visiting a nicer hotel for food, drinks and ambiance! The food was inedible at Hostel La Gavina. This hotel is a 2 at best. Look at the beat up furniture and hideous decor in our room. What a disgrace!
Vergane glorie, service ver onder niveau. Kamer slecht, douchen in oud bad, scheuren in muur, plankje zit los.
Wonderful hotel
Old school charm and spanish grandeur. The gardens and pool area enjoy great views. The Candelight restaurant and also the Garbi pool restaurant are both excellent. Services is formal and staff staff will do their best to help with anything you may need.
After the hustle and bustle of Barcelona, we felt like we'd stepped into a world of serenity and grace as we entered the lobby of the Hostal de la Gavina. I am truly lost as to how to properly describe the beauty of this hotel and its picturesque location. The public and private rooms of the hotel all combine perfectly maintained antique furniture, rugs and tapestries while complementing these with modern updated amenities. It is easy to feel just like Elizabeth Taylor, a famed frequent guest, as you enjoy a drink in the paneled bar or front patio, breakfast in beautiful dining room or its adjacent patio, lunch beside or at the pool overlooking the sea below, walk the 2km paved path from the hotel along the sea to a cove at the end of the resort line.
We stayed for three nights in two rooms - one a classic with terrace overlooking the breakfast patio and the other a sea view room overlooking the beach. Both had wonderful closet space and bathrooms with showers and tubs. The beds are very comfortable with contemporary mattresses/pillows and antique frames. The breakfast is a lovely buffet that includes a custom omelette bar. The staff are kind and helpful at every point. Our 20-something daughters used the spa and gym, since it was raining one afternoon and found both great. Easy walk down to the wide beach, which has a variety of rentals if you are interested.
The hotel is well situated for day trips to Girona or other nearby beaches. We visited Tossa and Llafranc and were so happy we stayed at the Gavina with the Sant Pol beach below and hidden coves along the path. The town was quiet and not a party hipster scene, but we enjoyed that. Absolutely heavenly stay.
Amazing! Fabulous introduction to the Costa Brava. So beautiful!
