The kind staff, the fact that there was a radiator and not AC, the possibility to use the gym and spa areas, the location - it was a very nice stay!

From the moment I arrived it was clear this place bears little resemblance to the photos on the website. What was advertised as a comfortable stay felt more like a badly maintained hostel that hasn’t seen proper cleaning or investment in years.

The room was tired, poorly maintained, and frankly unpleasant. The carpets looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in ages, the furniture was worn and damaged, and the overall smell suggested the room hadn’t been properly aired or cleaned before our arrival. Basic expectations like cleanliness and upkeep simply weren’t met.

The bathroom was particularly disappointing. Fixtures were loose, surfaces were stained, and the overall condition made it difficult to feel comfortable using it at all. For a hotel charging the rates it does, this level of neglect is unacceptable.

Noise was another major issue. Walls appear to be paper thin, meaning every door slam, conversation, and corridor noise carries straight into the room. Getting a decent night’s sleep was nearly impossible.

Staff were largely uninterested in helping when issues were raised. Rather than any attempt to resolve concerns, the response felt dismissive and indifferent, which only added to the frustration.

Overall the experience felt like the hotel is relying entirely on its location rather than making any effort to maintain standards. Until significant improvements are made to cleanliness, maintenance, and customer service, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

There are far better options available that actually respect their guests.

Pros:

Exceptional Hotel for cleanliness , friendly welcoming staff; gorgeous rooms, great facilities. Has a 'feel good vibe' to the hotel . Parking directly on site with only a cost of £7 daily ! - some hotels charge £20 +

I did not eat at the Hotel so I'm unable to make any comment on the food.
The room I stayed in was on the fifth floor and was large and airy . The bed was very comfortable with pillows easy to sleep on.. Gorgeous modern bathroom with bath & shower facilities - super power shower too !

Have no hesitation recommending the New Continental Hotel :)

A trip to Plymouth
Pros:

Loved the. Swimming pool, sauna and steam rooms available to guest staying . Steve's Brasserie was a great place to eat if you wanted to stay in. Good food and pleasant staff .

Cons:

Surrounding decor was a little tired , carpets towards breakfast room could do with a good clean or replaced. My room window the double glazing was blown.
