Happy memories can be had here
Pros:

Genuinely lovely staff. The hotel is 60+ rooms and done in the colonial style, mostly suites i believe. Big comfortable 4 poster bed, darkwood floors and furniture. Bathroom and also a cloakroom which is actually nice to have.
Nice Quirks , a snooker table, planters chairs, big fishpool, lighting of the fire in the library, steamboat restaurant. **You have to do the steamboat restaurant** its great fun. A 1430 walk with matti?. Its literally a walk on a pavement around the golf course and at first you think why am i doing this ? then you relax and hes quite fun telling you about who lived where etc and at the end you think, well i quite enjoyed that. It reminded me of lettice and lovage (the play)
It doesnt have any gardens. The golf club opposite is a good place to eat in the evening
You must wear ear plugs provided if you are at the front its a busy road though it does directly overlook the golf course.
Happy memories of this gem if a hotel

Excellent service and timeless charm
Pros:

My partner and I had a fantastic experience at the Jim Thompson Tea Room. We loved that everything is still as good as the old days—the ambiance, the food, and the service are all top-notch.

We want to give a massive shout-out to the amazing staff, especially Ravi, Hossain, and Santhosh. Their friendly and professional service truly made our day. They looked after us so well. Highly recommended for couples looking for a classic, high-quality tea experience!

Excellent Staff and Atmosphere, Minor Noise Issue
Pros:

Superb hospitality and service throughout the stay. The staff were attentive, professional, and made the experience very pleasant. The overall atmosphere of the resort is charming and relaxing. We would like to extend our compliments to all the Food & Beverage team members Hussain, Kirtan, Santosh, Ms Akhi and others. Special thanks to the F & B team members who took care of us during the stay. I regret that I couldn’t recall all their names at the moment, but my compliments to the rest of them for their excellent service. Also compliments to the Front Desk/ Reception team.
Although traffic noise could be heard at times from our room. earplugs were thoughtfully provided by the bedside.

We loved our stay here. Our room and the facilities were all beautiful and kept really well. The staff were all exceptionally friendly and helpful. We liked being able to walk from the hotel into town. Breakfast was very enjoyable with lots of interesting choices to try. We also took advantage of the Happy Hour(s) and enjoyed speaking to other guests in the evening. Thankyou!

Attentive service and relaxed atmosphere
Pros:

Appreciated the towels and tea on arrival after a long taxi transfer from Kuala Lumpur.
Room
Our spacious room was fitted with colonial-style furniture and had a balcony, with a small table and two chairs, which overlooked the golf course and towards the hills in the distance.

Food
Breakfast was served in the dining room. You could help yourself to cereals and pastries and a selection of fresh fruit was delivered to the table. A selection of hot dishes were available to order – it was nice to know that things were freshly cooked.

We ate dinner in the dining room one day. I particularly enjoyed the feta cheese starter served with salad and pickled vegetables, extremely tasty.

Afternoon tea in the Jim Thompson Tea Room was a relaxing experience. Of course we had to have the local Cameron Highland tea. It was nice to have the pianist playing in the background, and we enjoyed the views across to the hills.

The team in the Highlands Bar made a good Singapore Sling and were always so helpful and friendly.

We particularly enjoyed the attentive service and relaxed atmosphere at the hotel – lovely to hear the bubbling water and see the koi fish. Overall, a lovely break in a cooler part of Malaysia.

Barely average. Stuck in 1930s
Pros:

If we had stayed here when it was built (1930s), am sure we would have enjoyed it. But almost a hundred years on, this place is in desperate need of a makeover. The shower ceiling was mouldy, the furniture not replaced since the 1930s, and the breakfast was barely average.
We had very limited choices in Cameron highlands, but given the choice, next time we will just drive by and not stay the night.

A Touch of Class
Pros:

This colonial style building is nestled on a hill side looking unto the golf course opposite. The inside is inviting and warm. The staff are friendly and willing to go that extra mile to make you feel seen and appreciated. The breakfast is mainly table service and the menu is varied catering for most tastes. Afternoon tea seemed to have been a hit with many guests.
The evening meal is fine dining at its best with attentive, knowledgeable staff who strive to please.
Some activities are offered and front desk staff will assist in helping to organise individual needs where possible.
I recommend picking your own strawberry’s. Much tastier than the ones you can buy outside.

Only niggle, whilst there are flowers and greenery around there are no nearby walks as such apart from the complimentary walk around the outside of the gulf course with the guide pointing out certain fauna and flora and interesting secrets about the area. A good place to take a leisurely stay between busy bouts of exploring.

Wonderful Stay
Pros:

We had an absolutely wonderful stay. Loved the hotel and the staff. They welcome us with drinks and check in was a breeze. We loved the corridors to the room and the koi pond along the way. Staff was friendly. Breakfast was great. I wish we stayed longer.

Upscale hotel but noisy road
Pros:

It is an upscale hotel which has beautiful English-styled interiors. As Hilton members, we appreciated the a la carte breakfast which you can order off from a small menu and the simple in-room amenity. The hotel had limited room upgrade availability and occupancy was full when we stayed over the weekend. We appreciated the excellent service from our server Myint during breakfast.

The main negative of the hotel was the noisy road in front and it affected our sleep at night. The hotel would unlikely be value for money if you are booking on a revenue rate.

Nice Hotel
Pros:

We stayed here for two nights and we had an enjoyable stay.
The hotel is situated just off the main road through the highlands and there can be some road noise.
The hotel itself is very nice with friendly staff at check-in.
The room is large with a small balcony attached. It was very clean and well maintained.
It is a Colonial styled hotel and there is lots of seating areas in the bar and reading room.
Breakfast was fine,if a bit formal for me.Everything is served to you at the table from the breakfast menu.
Overall, a nice place to stay.

A nostaligic stay in this luxury, elegant and charming hotel.
Pros:

A wonderful hotel of faded grandeur, luxury and a quiet pace. Outstanding service from all staff, attention to detail is second to none. Particular mention goes to Ravi, Hossain, Kistan, Sigi snd Bal who made our stay memorable. The reception team and Housekeeping all provided exceptional service too. Quiet, large elegant rooms with balcony, lovely bar and sitting areas with a delightful ambiance. Would return

The rooms are very big and bright with views over the golf course and the Highlands.
The bed is big and very comfortable.

Mixed feelings !
Pros:

We had very mixed feelings about our two nights stay.

The Good:

Most of the staff ( apart from the reception) are super friendly and can’t do enough to help. The service ( apart from comments below) was generally very good .

The food at breakfast ( particularly the roti canai) and the steamboat restaurant were excellent

The room was very nice . There is disturbance from the very busy road but we used the ear plugs provided and generally weren’t disturbed too much.

The strawberry spa experience was sublime. You do however to book the treatments in advance as there was very limited availability and the spa worked very hard to fit us in at all.

The Bad:

We arrived on a Sunday afternoon and just missed the hotel’s nature walk by 5 mins while waiting to check in . Nobody thought to suggest while we were waiting that we might like to join that - this was particularly galling since the hotel doesn’t for some reason run any of its walks on a Monday !!

Consequently the hotel suggested that we paid a guide for 3 hours and although this was enjoyable at the time, it was not good value or really worth it at all! Our view is that the hotel should be providing the nature treks every day and we shouldn’t have had to pay 400 MYR and the information provided by the reception staff re possible alternatives was not particularly helpful. Bearing in mind that this was our welcome to the hotel, this was a really poor start!

We had tea and scones in the Jim Thompson room. It was below average with warm rather than hot tea, undercooked small scones and minute amounts of jam and cream!

The hotel has no outside areas to relax. The lounge area is very nice but is dominated by the pianist when playing . We ended up spending several hours on our room balcony with the accompanying road noise !

Beautiful building but noisy and awful mattress
Pros:

We spent three nights at this hotel. The building is beautiful, and the staff are all brilliant . The door staff greet you every time you pass through, and a special shout out to Kee and Chloe at reception who were wonderful. The koi pond in the centre is clean and stunning. There is a full-size snooker table which was very nice to play on, and the internal decorations at Christmas time were stunning. Breakfast was also a highlight, in particular the Roti Canai which was the best we had anywhere on our travels. The pancakes were also delicious.
Also a special thanks to Mr Madi, the naturalist who takes people on walks. He was very helpful in recommending a friend who took us out birding.
The spa is simply outstanding. We had treatments by Diana and Arika who were fabulous and the facilities and surroundings are extremely tranquil and beautiful
However, there are several issues. The most disappointing was the awful mattress. It was obviously well past it’s used by date, hard, and no spring. Of all the places we stayed in Malaysia, including some eco-friendly resorts, it was by far the worst mattress we slept on.
The road outside the hotel is also noisy, although this isn’t the hotels fault. You will need earplugs to get a good nights sleep, if you can bear the mattress.
We raised the issue of the poor quality mattress with reception, who assured us that they would get maintenance to do something about it, but I would be amazed if we were the very first people to mention this, so it’s hard to know if they will actually take any action.
The final issue is the charges. This hotel is charging near Western European prices, and then you are still hit with additional “service charge” on top. This was unexpected and unusual in our experience in Asia, and although all the service was great, I would expect it to be. It shouldn’t be an extra.
We also didn’t use the laundry service because for the amount of laundry we had it was very expensive.
A final note about Cameron Highlands in December.
just don’t go. The traffic is beyond insane. You can’t move or travel around the place. Where this hotel is located, there is very little within a short walking distance, so you will probably want to use a grab to take you around, and then you can’t get anywhere quickly because the traffic is gridlocked most of the day

Nice hotel with lots of traffic
Pros:

The hotel is good. BUT come prepared and bring your own earplugs or noise cancelling headphones. The hotel is next to the road and there is traffic during the night. A lot. If you rely on the earplugs provided then you won’t sleep. Otherwise all is fine.

Truly British experience in the heart of Malaysia
Pros:

The hotel is very nice, located just outside the Tanah Rata town centre, surrounded by lush tea plantations. The rooms are spacious and clean, with cozy balconies overlooking the flower garden and the valley. My stay was amazing, marked by the great service of exceptionally attentive and well trained international staff. During my stay at this hotel I felt like in "Mini-Britain", with a superb traditional Afternoon Tea service, live piano music, high class dining at Gonbei restaurant and overall style of the place. The rejuvenating Tea Bath in the SPA Village followed by a relaxing full body massage done by Arika was outstanding.

Never dissapoints
Pros:

Nothing can be faulted at this place with a cool colonial charm and excellent service from all the ground staff. Although the resort is located next to the main road, ear plugs are provided in case one may need it during the bedtime. Breakfast in form of unlimited ala carte is definitely a bonus.
