Beautiful clean room, great size and £10 for doggy was great value.
Restaurant was lovely.
Nothing
Location is excellent for Old Town Stevenage.
Room was clean and comfortable. Friendly and helpful staff.
Prices high for 3 star hotel, (particularly mid week), leads to greater expectations. Shabby decor in entrance/reception area and dissapointing to have smokers collecting just outside the main entrance.
Exceptional bar staff, very nice room, will return
The decor is beautiful and they have done a really good job of keeping it in line with its original look and feel with modern touches.
My room wasn’t cleaned for the entirety of my stay (3 nights). On my last day I put the door sign on and went out all morning until 1.30pm and the room still hadn’t been cleaned. When I asked about it at reception I was made to feel that it was my fault and I should have been aware they only service the room every two days. I was then told that maybe the housekeeping staff didn’t want to disturb me which is a ridiculous excuse as I had put the sign on the door. I was made to feel that they would be doing me a favour if the cleaning staff were able to pop by my room and even suggested I may have to pay an additional fee for this service. I couldn’t believe the terrible customer service and lack of cleaning as this accommodation isn’t cheap and I would have an expectation that they would at least empty the bins. Staff eventually did come at 3pm and did the bare minimum by taking rubbish and leaving some toilet roll. I stayed here with my 8 month old and I wouldn’t stay again. It’s a beautiful place but the lack of customer service and the rude, dismissive staff is its downfall.
Rooms where big but cosy, clean and warm. Really enjoyed our stay
Wedding was on the day we were staying. British "lady" "didn't give a.... about people being asleep" her words.
Poor service at the breakfast, no plates, only bad toasting bread available, we were not allowed to make our own tea?
The room was comfortable and the bathroom was up to date and modern.
Extremely low lighting the bedrooms - very hard when trying to put make up on but that's pretty standard in hotel rooms. The hotel breakfast wasn't great - very limited and not great quality. Only white bread, no rolls for example.
Only thing was the location was good.
Having paid over £430 for a two night stay, Monday-Wednesday we felt this hotel did not deliver at all for the following :
Room
Small double, dated, no wow factor for paying over 200 per night.
Only one hand towel provided.
Tea/coffee set up very basic,
Pillows extremely hard
Under the shelf in bathroom badly marked, or could even be mould (not sure)
Breakfast
Went in for breakfast at 0900, buffet
Ambients, none
Plates for hot food cold
No fried eggs, only eggs available scrambled.
All supposedly hot food Luke warm with bacon cold.
Two waiting staff on duty only interested in chatting to each other instead of offering any hospitality.
The breakfast was so disappointing we only went on the first morning.
Interesting to see that if you had not booked the breakfast the cost is only £9, guessing that is why it was not great.
The biggest disappointment and this was not mentioned on either the hotels or booking.coms web site that the room would not be serviced daily, only every other day. Having stayed in numerous hotels in the UK and oversea’s before and after the pandemic having your room serviced daily is a norm, if this was not going to be the case then it should have been on the web site, if it had we certainly would not of booked.
We got married at Hotel Cromwell in December 2025 and honestly couldn’t have chosen a better venue.
From start to finish, Paul and the wedding & events team were incredible. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and they helped us create the most magical Christmas winter wedding. Everything ran so smoothly on the day, which meant we could just relax and enjoy every moment.
The venue itself is stunning; a beautiful historic hotel in the Old Town of Stevenage, with gorgeous event spaces that were spotless and perfectly set up. The reception team were amazing, with a special shout out to the lovely Alison who was always on hand and made our guests feel so welcome.
We couldn’t recommend Hotel Cromwell more for weddings or any special event. A fantastic local venue. Thank you all for making our day so unforgettable and we will certainly be back X
Lovely room lovely decor, cosy, great shower bed comfy, good lighting for make up
Breakfast good brilliant location
I had a brunch with a friend at lunch time today. I ordered a breakfast bun which came with bacon and fried egg. When it arrived the bun was burnt to a crisp on the inside. When i complained to the waitress she said she would let the chef know. I ended up removing the filling so that it could scrape the burnt but before eating it. It tasted of burnt bun even after scraping all the burnt part. Won’t be ordering that again.
