The Surfbreak Hotel

Surfbreak Hotel is an excellent little spot and I highly recommend it. The atmosphere is cozy, casual, and beachy; excellent bang for your buck!

The best part of this hotel is the customer service. My wife and I had an issue with our room and we were instantly switched to a different room with similar accommodations. It is clear that this hotel cares about their customers and that is worth a lot!

The only thing that keeps this from getting five stars is that some of the features of the room and a little janky.

Terrible location. Super noisy due to the freeway and road. I had to change rooms because in my first room the bed was broken and hair was all over my bed that was not mine. The second room still had hair all over the bed and the response from the customer service rep was “i suffer from hair loss i get how frustrating it is.” Just how unclean the rooms are to me is a big deal breaker. I’d say the value of the hotel is terrible unless you’re getting a free stay.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE. Terrible facilities, broken floors, bad odor coming from te sink and the elevator was broken when we arrived after hours and no one put a note to take the stairs instead. We left a day early because of how bad the room was and did not receive a refund.

I stayed at the Surfbreak Hotel in San Clemente for a wedding, and unfortunately the experience was terrible from start to finish. Multiple people in our group complained about a strong sulfur smell coming from the sink drains, and my partner and I had to switch rooms three different times because the door code pads kept failing. The worst part was a sewage backup in our bathroom, which caused sewage to overflow out of the sink drain into a waterfall onto the floor — absolutely unacceptable for any hotel.
The front desk manager did everything she could and was genuinely helpful, but the hotel’s upper management never followed through on the refund they promised for the issues we experienced. After waiting over a month, we had no choice but to dispute the charge with our credit card company.
I would strongly caution anyone considering staying here. The property has serious maintenance problems, and management does not take responsibility when things go wrong.

Had the best time at this clean small hotel AC was amazing No noise at alll Julie was so kind and fantastic Shes a gem thank u julie for making millie and joes stay epic U were sonkind and well seee u again soon We stayed 4 nights It was so quiet and clean and no issues The view was nice and the donut shop was excelllent and the cafe as well Parking was easy No stresss Plenty of towels and close to the beaches and dining and stores The shower was hot and alll updated The beds were so soft and cozy We had a wonderful stay No poool But thats ok Free coffee amd you can rent bikes too Luv this place better than Dana or any place ive stayed in Cali Awesome beach days and food all over Lots of little areas to walk the pups also if needed Aloha and Thanx for the good vibes

Nice friendly cleaning crew. It was weird not having an on site person.

So where to start. First night no parking on property was available. Had to park on the street and walk to the room because someone had double parked. Was directed by the staff to park a mile away in public parking. I ended up parking on the street 2 blocks away. Rooms were clean with the exception of the carpets. They would stick to socks and feet and leave a black residue. We had to by slippers just for the room. Staff is friendly and the view is better than advertised even with the freeway. Last thing of note. The door was uneven on the hinges and left a giant gap where it sounded like the people outside were in our room. Very noisy place and people smoke on the non smoking floor. Most likely will not visit again.

The keypad was really hard to work.And we had to ask for assistance to get in several times.

Property hugs the freeway and is noisy to the extent that windows can't be open. Rooms were updated within the last few years but the fan in our bathroom didn't work and the room was extremely musty and humid. Towels didn't dry!! For the quality and location this should be less expensive.

Excellent boutique hotel with wonderful amenities! Very cute layout that is walkable to nearby eateries and even the beach! Perfect for a romantic getaway!

Just what I needed for the night, clean & quiet, and a decent price point too :).

Employee who checked me in was very welcoming and friendly. Parking was free and easy. Room was decorated nice and clean although some things could be retouched or deep cleaned, not a big deal. The overall value for what it was plus the proximity to the freeway and beach was excellent. Only major issue was the street noise that can be heard even with the windows closed; it kept me up at night.

Has a tiny parking lot but I believe there is a space for each room. Room was modern and nice and you couldn’t hear the freeway at all. The 4PM check in via text was kind of wierd

I have stayed here twice now and love it every time. The rooms are updated & have new appliances and furniture. Great location right across from Del Mar and El Camino Real with shopping and dining. Modern beach feel and decor, super comfortable, and AFFORDABLE. Only complaint I had with my most recent stay is that the TV in our room was very laggy and slow. Other than that everything was perfect
