It’s beautiful! Rooms were great. The only issues was we did not have a real shower but we rigged up the handle to make o e in the tub.

Cons:

The pool bar food was not very good at all and very limited. The panini was pretty bad. No salad options either

Far Below What You Would Expect from a 4-Star Hotel
Pros:

The main highlight of the Grand Hotel Menaggio is undoubtedly its location and the beautiful views over Lake Como. Fortunately, we had booked rooms overlooking the lake, and the view is genuinely impressive.

I would also like to highlight the housekeeping staff, who did an excellent job. They were efficient and professional, and their work deserves to be recognised.

Unfortunately, these were the only genuinely positive aspects of our stay, but the views over Lake Como are certainly beautiful.

Cons:

Unfortunately, our experience at the Grand Hotel Menaggio was extremely disappointing.

From the moment we arrived, the level of service was simply not up to standard. The welcome at reception was cold and unprofessional, the check-in process was unnecessarily complicated and unfriendly, and the overall handling of our arrival was poor. Some members of the reception staff would not even bother to say hello.

More generally, the staff seem to be seriously lacking in training and proper supervision. At breakfast, the service was reduced to the bare minimum, and even getting a simple coffee could take far too long.

The rooms are dated and clearly in need of substantial renovation. There was not even a complimentary bottle of water in the room. The shutters and curtains do not properly block out the light, meaning we were woken up by daylight every morning.

The bathroom was probably the worst part. The shower was extremely outdated, with signs of mould on the walls, a very basic shower head, almost no water pressure, and a shower system that simply did not work properly. The toiletries provided were also surprisingly low quality for a hotel claiming to be four-star.

The food was disappointing as well, and we found the restaurant mediocre. We also did not find the hotel particularly welcoming towards pets.

Beyond the ageing facilities, the main problem is the overall standard of service. This hotel needs not only a major renovation, but also a complete review of staff training, management and service standards from the parking and luggage service to reception and breakfast.

We stayed here because the other hotels we wanted were fully booked. If you have a choice, I would strongly recommend staying elsewhere.

In our opinion, the Grand Hotel Menaggio simply does not currently provide the facilities, service or overall experience one should reasonably expect from a 4-star hotel.
