The room was very comfortable; air con, bed, 2 Tvs so that both my kids can have their own shows. Fantastic sea views. Oh yes and the water filtration system that is really helpful without the usage of plastic water bottles. Swimming pool for kids and adults were huge, so a lot room to swim around.
Everything was great except for the breakfast. Previously I had stayed twice at Marriott just a few blocks down, and their buffet breakfast though not huge, but were of fantastic quality. The food quality is superb at Marriott, but over here at Ascott it is rather disappointing. The taste, variety, even the presentation of food is rather dull. 4 days of breakfast at Marriott, and I don't get sick of it. But just 3 days of Ascott breakfast; was quite a dread. Hope they can improve much more.

Nothing... we love it!
Our stay was fantastic at Ascott Gurney Penang. The breakfast was very good and changing the variety each day. The pool is amazing and also the gym has many possibilities for exercises. We enjoyed it a lot.

when we try to check in at 3 pm (which is the check in time stated by the hotel), we were informed that the room is not available. the staff kept telling us to wait 20 to 30 more minutes while not being able to confirm at what time the room will be ready. The room was finally ready at 4.30 pm, which is 1.5 hours later than the stated check-in time. At this price we are paying, this is not acceptable.
早餐种类齐全，涵盖中西，也有当地特色的面和米粉，能涵盖各种口味的选择。饮料种类也很多，各种食物都很好吃，能选的多种蛋的做法，omelette很好吃

A lovely, spacious room in a great part of town. I was lucky to have amazing views from my window.
I interacted with 4 members of staff at reception throughout my stay, and unfortunately all of them were cold and aloof, making me feel somewhat unwelcome. One of many examples: upon checking out, I handed my key to the member of staff, and after I’d stood there in silence while she sorted things out on the system, her only response as I turned to leave was a semi-interested “thank you”. There was no “thank you staying with us” / “how was your stay?” / “we hope to see you again”. I don’t expect the world, but considering the high reputation of the Ascott Gurney and the wider Ascott brand, I found all my interactions pretty disappointing and lacklustre.
