Stopped for tea in the courtyard, whilst exploring Rye. Nothing too much trouble for the staff and a lovely place to sit and relax. Looking at the interior, website and the team, would love to come back and stay
The staff were lovely and our room, the courtyard space and other communal spaces were really wonderful.
Nothing!
Everything
It was a very hot day and we couldn’t open the bedroom window but there was a fan. Delicious dinner and friendly staff.
This was so far our favorite hotel on a multi-city trip. Rye is a lovely little town, and the George is perfectly located. Sadly for the hotel, there was I gather a fairly substantial fire in recent years, forcing a major remodel. The result is a historic building, a historic facade ... but modern-feeling amenities (plumbing etc). I'm baffled by an earlier review complaining about things feeling tired, it felts very new to us. Lovely staff, excellent bar, wonderful stay.
Service
Meal was very good but rushed.
Home from an overnight stay at The George.
The hotel is beautiful & a labyrinth of different rooms.
Staff are all so friendly & welcoming.
Our room was absolutely beautiful. We were lucky to be upgraded.
As we entered there was soft music coming from the little radio on the side, a lovely touch.
Queen size comfortable bed. Tv , armchairs, lovely views from the windows, the bathroom had a free standing bath, and the shower was a good size, with shampoo/ conditioner/ soap to use & bath robes should you need one. Perfect.
We had a drink in the bar where the young man was very accommodating in recommending drinks.
We booked an evening meal in the hotel restaurant. Food was delicious, and service great. Unfortunately I didn’t get any names, but every member of staff were all so nice.
We had breakfast in the morning which runs from 8am until 10 am I believe. There was a choice of items to have while you waited for your ordered cooked item to arrive.
All cooked beautifully.
Checkout was easy.
We had parked a short walk away in the large market carpark which is £3 for 24 hours.
I would definitely recommend and return to the George if we ever visit Rye again ..
We loved it …
It’s such a lovely hotel
Staff very friendly, clean rooms, manager happy to chat and tell us about the future of the look out
Nothing not to like x
Superb location - close to the station and all the main points of interest,
Dinner menu could have been more varied and could be slightly altered from night to night.
Wonderfully helpful staff. However cleanliness was very sadly lacking. Carpet edges and around furniture very dusty. Tops of furniture clean but lower levels and skirting boards looked like they had grown beards. The wardrobe in my room was an old fashioned bamboo, very pretty, but strips missing and nails sticking out. Bed very clean but personally speaking ,like sleeping on a billiard table.
The food was good.
I am disabled and it is totally unsuitable for anyone with mobility issues.
Location, staff, bar and bar staff, breakfast.
We had heavy suitcases and my husband was left to carry them to the top floor to an attic room. Probably should have been communicated that. Or at least offered assistance. Also that particular room was really no good for travellers like us that had travelled a long way and had large suitcases. Probably need to be better communication about that.
Central to Rye. Clean and on the whole friendly
Shower drainage was smelly and slow. Had to keep stopping the shower. Also breakfast was a little disorganised. One member of staff was outstanding but others one was sullen and almost rude.
In spite of the helpful reception staff and reasonable room, I certainly wouldn't recommend The George, particularly in warm weather. The housekeeping was dubious - a sock under the bedroom chair, cardboard toilet roll tube on the bathroom floor, thick dust in reception - and there is nil air conditioning, just a fan which of course makes a room hotter. We had requested a twin room, but were given a double room on the top floor. It was blamed on Booking.com but we had confirmation from the hotel, which was denied. The bed only had a heavy duvet, no sheet, so we were forced ro sleep uncovered, leading to insect bite overload. About an hour's sleep, if that. Breakfast was bad for vegans. In spite of offering a full vegan breakfast, the vegan Continental offering was just chopped fruit and bread - horrible jam, no Marmite, no yogurt, no pastries. Very poor. Had to ask for vegan spread and plant milk. For £340 one night, it was simply terrible. Never again.
