A Hidden Gem (with Lots of Dogs!)
Pros:

First time at New Place and we would return. There was plenty of free parking. The grounds are clean and beautiful. The room was small but adequate. We had dinner included which was some of the best food we’ve ever had. Breakfast was hot and plentiful. The pool and jacuzzi were a welcome part of our stay. We booked via Virgin Experience Days and felt it was great value for money. Service always felt welcoming. The only downside was the dogs… lots of them… and we are dog lovers! It sometimes felt like we were at a dog kennels rather than a beautiful woodland hotel. Some people left dogs in their room alone which led to inevitable non-stop barking, which continued late into the night. I was glad I brought along ear plugs! A dog from a neighbouring room was also allowed by their owner to go to the toilet right outside our room door. Plus there was a comical moment when a dog ran into the dining room during a blast of the zoomies! Apart from the dog issues, we would return for the fantastic grounds, welcoming staff and beautiful food. Hopefully next time the dog owners will be more responsible.

Could be better
Pros:

Stayed here for 4 nights the room was very hot we found a fan in the wardrobe but this did nothing air conditioning is definitely required. The whole time we were here the indoor stairwell and landing were never cleaned the same rubbish was on the stairs for the whole stay, the rooms were clean but they clearly do not do more then the rooms. Buffet Breakfast is ok we had to keep asking every day for items to be refilled even though there was enough staff to monitor the items. We eat here for dinner twice in the bar area which is in the lovely Manor House which does have lovely features but again cleaning was not great, though the food was very good better than breakfast. Such a shame as could be a lovely place to stay if a few tweaks are made.

Lovely :)
Pros:

Very beautiful and clean. Loved the grounds and being able to go for walks.

Cons:

My pasta was overcooked, and for the price of our stay on top of the amount of money for the food, that was disappointing. But there was a wedding at the same time so no big deal!

Too hot and crummy.
Pros:

Locality.

Cons:

30 degrees in the room at midnight and even hotter in the afternoon.
Fortunately there’s a small fan which was a saviour. Being a cheaply constructed annex it heated up unbearably hot even though outside it was cooler.
No remote control for the TV.
Cleaning after one night was hit and miss; didn’t take away my breakfast tray, the toilet wasn’t cleaned and the tea tray unrefreshed.
I wouldn’t recommend this place IMHO.

Anniversary Stay 9th July 2026
Pros:

Firstly, I would like to say a huge thank you to Stephanie in the bar and restaurant. She truly went above and beyond to make our 4th wedding anniversary special.

My husband and I have been visiting New Place Hotel for the past seven years, whether for an overnight stay or a meal. We originally booked our wedding for 2020 after arranging everything in 2019, but due to COVID-19 we had to postpone twice before finally getting married on 9th July 2022.

Throughout those seven years, we have always found the staff to be exceptional. From rearranging our wedding dates during an incredibly difficult time to ensuring my dietary requirements as someone with Coeliac disease were catered for, the service has consistently been excellent. Staff have always been professional, understanding and accommodating, which is why this hotel means so much to us.

Unfortunately, during our anniversary visit on 9th July this year, I had a very upsetting experience while ordering food in the bar. I was made to feel that my Coeliac disease was an inconvenience. Living with Coeliac disease is challenging enough without being made to feel like a burden, and to experience this in front of other guests was embarrassing and distressing.

The words that stayed with me were, "I do not feel comfortable serving you." Hearing this left me feeling humiliated and uncomfortable, and I genuinely wanted to leave.

Thankfully, Stephanie noticed that I was upset, even though I tried my best not to show it. She immediately took the initiative to help. Along with another member of staff, who I believe works with the wedding team, she spoke directly with the chef to establish exactly which menu items were safe for me to eat. This was handled professionally and gave me confidence that my meal would be prepared safely.

Stephanie then kindly arranged for us to dine in the restaurant instead of the bar, creating a much calmer and more comfortable atmosphere. Stephanie even decorated our table with flower petals to mark our anniversary, which was such a thoughtful gesture and completely turned our evening around.

What was particularly upsetting is that this situation could have been resolved with a simple conversation with the chef. Instead, there was over half an hour of staff repeatedly going back and forth, drawing unnecessary attention to the situation. Even after everything had been clarified, the server continued to question the chef when they came into the bar. It made me feel singled out and deeply uncomfortable.

Stephanie's kindness, professionalism and empathy completely changed what had started as a very disappointing experience. She checked on us throughout the evening to make sure everything was alright and genuinely cared that we were able to enjoy our anniversary.

I hope this feedback is shared with the management team. Stephanie is a real credit to New Place Hotel, and I cannot thank her enough for her outstanding customer service. At the same time, I hope further training can be provided to ensure that guests with Coeliac disease and other medical dietary requirements are treated with understanding, discretion and respect. No guest should be made to feel embarrassed or like a burden simply because they have a medical condition.

Grand restaurant with overly zealous safety hotel
Pros:

The main building is the restaurant which is a glorious architectural piece set in restful grounds.

Cons:

Rooms very hot with “safety catches” that allow precious little fresh air into the rooms. Hotel claims it is for health and safety but did my health no good. In case of fire you will be trapped if the door is obstructed. Needs urgent review in my opinion.

Pros:

Beautiful old house and lovely grounds. Staff were very helpful.

Cons:

You don't stay in the old house and the rooms in the new area are very basic and tired. There was no aircon. The bathroom needed a bit of a tidy up and the room upstairs was pretty small. Breakfast was OK but nothing out of the ordinary. Had to wait to be served in the bar as there was an "unexpected " rush and only one pay point. Staff tried. Lost cold water in our bathroom in the morning, and both coffee machines broke during breakfast. The leisure centre was also a little tired but adequate. Hard to find reception as well as someone parked in front of the only signage. Wasn't really able to give feedback at checkout as staff were busy making a cup of tea and were unavailable.

Okay location but uncomfortable room, a premier inn would of been a better choice
Pros:

It has a good location with access to multiple local towns and facilities

Cons:

The fan in the bathroom didn’t work causing the bathroom to remain hot and steamy throughout the whole stay. The shower drain didn’t drain well which exacerbated the fan issue and also left you standing in a dirty shower tray due to lack of drainage between days. The shower wall had someone else’s hair on the wall when we arrived!! The bed was old and you could feel the springs in the mattress and bottomed out when you just sat on it. Another note would be there is no aircon with only a small fan that half worked, if this is going to be the case a fridge in the room would of been nice as everything just got hot…

Building lovely but much room for improvement of bedrooms etc
Pros:

no air conditioning was unacceptable.
parking is a problem as many trees above the parking area as the type that drops sap which is damaging.
choice of stations on tv limited why no Netflix, prime etc

Cons:

Inconsistency when tried to park near reception telling me it was an exit area (yet no signage) and the next day another car had parked there! Breakfast was poor quality buffet ready breakfast with hard eggs and warmed food. Individually cooked full English would be better.

Disappointing stay, overpriced for what was on offer.
Pros:

The location was perfect for us. Was close enough but away from Goodwood. There is an electric charging, expensive but good if you need it.

Cons:

Poor parking, if you arrive later in the evening there was no where to park due to parking spaces not being marked out, people were taking up 2/3 spaces for 1 car.. it would pay for the hotel to mark the spaces out.

The room was quite far away from the main area, it too hot and there was no ac in the room. The room didn’t have any fridge in it, which was very unexpected for us, we were celebrating a special occasion but the hotel didn’t really make a big deal of it. We had also booked a double room, yet we had twin beds pushed together, again disappointed.

On our 2nd day, the room hadn’t been cleaned or made up. I actually felt this was poor customer service.

On our last day, the hotel had no water so we were unable to shower or even have a drink. Wasn’t informed until we checked out, nothing was offered as an apology. The receptionist was actually quite rude about it.

Overall the hotel was overpriced for what it actually was..

Another enjoyable pre cruise stay this time bringing our friends to stay as well.
Pros:

Grandeur of the hotel, all the paintings and pictures on the wall, very interesting.
Rooms were compact but functional, modern bedrooms and bathroom.

Cons:

Not the best menu choice for dinner, more my problem than the hotel, a fussy eater !!
