Lovely stay and wonderful resteraunt.i woild highly recommend
Pros:

Small very personal service and had a real great team approach to its clients. Food and wine excellent and staff all friendly and helpful. Very comfortable.

Cons:

Would have preferred if it was a little nearer the centre , although easy walk to the port.

Wonderful relaxing holiday
Pros:

We have just returned from a 9 night stay at this hotel. We booked half board. The hotel exceeded all our expectations. All the staff were friendly and the food was superb both in its quality and presentation. We also enjoyed lunch on a few occasions and found it to be the same. It’s not a hotel with lively nightlife but this was exactly what we wanted. We would not hesitate to return here.
It’s a steep walk down and back to Funchal but not as bad as we thought it would be. The courtesy bus is good and a taxi if needed just 6 euros approx each way

Away from the hoi polloi
Pros:

Lovely relaxed ambience with two, smallish, pools and gardens. Lovely terrace and bar with helpful and friendly staff. Great breakfast, food in bar very good, restaurant pricey but excellent food. Lots of food options in town a 15-20 minute walk away plus some decent local bars. Great rooms , excellent shower and lots of space. Helpful and informative staff for booking walks or self guided.

First Class hotel in lovely surroundings
Pros:

This is a first class hotel. Food and surroundings are very fitting with Madeira .Rooms are big and nothing is too much trouble for the lovely staff.

A great place to stay in Funchal
Pros:

The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to make us feel at home. The location is great and the gardens around the hotel are beautiful. The room was very spacious and comfortable. We also enjoyed the facilities - the swimming pools and spa.

Superb staff who look after their guests very well. I can highly recommend!
Pros:

Spent a wonderful week at this fabulous hotel at the end of January.
All of the staff, without exception, were superb and very hardworking and I felt well looked after.
My room was spacious and immaculate - very clean. Reception staff were welcoming and approachable. The bar is very comfortable with plenty of room and the bar staff were very friendly, remembering my preferences from day to day. The hotel restaurant was superb - both breakfast and dinner. It was my first time in Madeira and I had only booked B&B because friends had told me there were plenty of good restaurants in Funchal - which there are. However, the food at the hotel was so good, I ate there five times during my week. There is a wide choice at breakfast, with hot food cooked to order. Excellent waiting on staff and a skilled chef and kitchen staff. The hotel has some beautifully kept gardens, two pools and a spa which I did not use on this visit.
My first visit to Madeira and the Quintinha São João contributed a great deal to the enjoyment of my trip. There is still much of the island to explore so I have booked a return visit next year!

Elegant hotel staffed by wonderful people
Pros:

Spent a wonderful 4 nights at this elegant, well run, well staffed hotel. It was our first visit to Madeira and the hotel made it a pleasurable one. The rooms are spacious and the bed very comfortable. Our room had a balcony over looking the gardens (nice touch). There is a courtesy bus that runs during the week that takes guests too and from Funchal. The restaurant, including breakfast, was excellent and the staff even better. They were always friendly and attentive and upon finding out my wife was lactose intolerant proceeding to make her daily deserts. I used the indoor swimming pool which was just the right temperature. Over all an excellent stay.

lovely cosy hotel with excellent friendly staff and would definitely stay again
Pros:

Restaurant food was delicious, that it tasted freshly cooked. Reception staff and lady who advised on trips and activities were very welcoming and attentive and helpful Spa was great albeit rather small and massage experience was lovely. Due to the cancelling of flights on departure day the staff were able to offer accommodation, luckily we could stay in our room for two nights extra, and would have offered another room

Cons:

Service to table in restaurant especially in evening was very slow. The TV could not get Netflix or stream English speaking channels, only one. Had to get a DVD player with only a few films to watch.

Vom ersten Kontakt bis zur Verabschiedung haben wir eine herzliche, warme und persönliche Erfahrung gemacht. Das Personal ist äußerst aufmerksam und hilfsbereit. Die Freundlichkeit ist überwältigend. Das Frühstück war herausragend - alles frisch zubereitet, Bestellungen direkt am Tisch div. Eierspeisen, etc. Eine sehr herzliche Atmosphäre in diesem privat geführten, kleinen aber sehr feinen Hotel hat uns besonders gefallen. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder 💯👍😊

Beautiful gardens but…
Pros:

Despite some unique qualities of this hotel (beautiful grounds, unique and charming interior decoration) the stay did not meet my expectations.

Room had some maintenance issues and there is no iron or ironing board available for guest use, only a laundry service that requires pre booking.
