Atendimento excelente.
the location is amazing , right in the heart of the hustle and bustle of the city .
the staff are super friendly and helpful !
Do not expect a premium experience from this Melia.
The rooms look exceptionally basic and tired. The bed had one pillow each, not a single picture on the wall and no mirror outside the bathroom. There was one free can of water between two and nothing on subsequent days. I would liken the room to the standard of a Premier Inn in the UK.
The corridors are extremely basic with dirty and cheap looking floor tiles.
Experience - Unfortunately, I experienced a twisted knee on the beach in Rio - don't ask! - on the day we were flying to São Paulo. Following the flight - it could have been the cabin pressure - but my knee was painful and was difficult to walk. My partner was dealing with two rucksacks and three suitcases. When we got out of the taxi from the airport, the hotel staff just watched my partner struggle and as I hopped over to the check-in desk in pain, they asked me to 'come around' to another terminal - eyeroll.
Later that evening when deciding what to do, we thought we'd ring reception and see if they had any crutches, or something that could have been left by a previous guest. They said they'd find out. They never called back.
In the morning, we rang down again, asked if they had any crutches, said they'd call back. Never did.
Third time we went to the reception. Asked for crutches. They said they didn't have any. I told them that was fine, but we had to ask three times for a reply. If a guest asks for crutches, it is not a 'nice to have', it would be something of an emergency. While I never expect hotels to have spare crutches or sticks, I thought no harm in asking, but this was particularly frustrating.
They did have a wheelchair, which they then said couldn't leave the hotel, when we just wanted to go to the pharmacy to get advice, medication and a stick.
After complaining, the hotel did try to apologise and sent up an 'afternoon tea', which comprised of two tea bags and a little bag of pillow mints. Nothing that would not have been available to us anyway.
Positives
Location is good.
Shower was good - lots of water and hot. (The soap dispensers are chained down like a prison).
Jonathan and Giovanna in the breakfast area were helpful and friendly.
