great location for a wedding and shopping
The bed was comfortable. That'd it.
The cottage was dirty on arrival with visible lumps of dust. Dirty towels and urine around the toilet and over the side of the bath panel. Holes in the carpets with mouse bait boxes on show, also no working air conditioning. The bin area had ehat I hope was tea stains and the bun was dirty on top. I requested to speak yo a manager or housekeeper multiple times, and they were never on duty. Sent an email while there with no response and left my number. Again, I've heard nothing back. Very poor service, rude staff bar a young man seving in the bar and a receptionist called Tom.
House keeping staff where lovely
Drinks are very expensive and the breakfast food is slow on topping up the items also alot of tea cups was dirty
We had a fantastic break , after a torrid few months , great hotel, great staff , clean comfortable and a fantastic shower !
We ate in restaurant 2 nights , first night excellent. Second night my wife and I were really looking forward to a scotch steak , how disappointed were we ! We both couldn’t eat at least a third of the steak, it was inedible. I spoke to the staff. Very apologetic. We will be returning but not eating the steak !

Had to take a ten minute walk to a nearby hotel for breakfast which was not acceptable. Only found this out by reading a sign on the reception desk on our arrival. Nothing on the website and no notification prior to arriving.
Staff are nice to be fair. Had to move hotels. Had blood spots on my bedding. Staff said might be wine. I don’t care not chancing it. Might have aids hiv. Then ask me to drive to sister hotel I said I can’t drive had a beer. I alcohol in Scotland. But one of staff did dive me to other hotel.
We were greeted by the most pleasant lady who was ever so helpful which made our stay extremely pleasant & enjoyable thank you Flo for all your help & useful information about the place you made our stay worth while looking forward to seeing you again Mrs slinger.
We've just spent 2 nights here as guests of a wedding couple. Room 29 was very comfortable and had all we needed for the say and wedding prep (iron/board). Room only has a shower but it was very good having the drencher option as well as hand held. The air con isn't, cooled ventilation at best so in this weather the room is quite warm. The window opens onto the car park with A74(M) beyond so it can be quite noisy. The bar service was very good as was service and food for the reception. The room didn't get serviced for the second night. I forgot to mention this when checking out and didn't report it at 23:00 when we retired as I doubted there were any chambermaids/ housekeeping staff on duty at that time.
We had our wedding reception in one of the private dining areas at Smiths Hotel.
The bar staff went above and beyond! Nothing was too much hassle for them and they were soo attentive!
Special shout out to Riley, Bradley, Ciaran, Alfie, Dixie and Rosie - these guys were amazing and we are so grateful for everything they did for us! They definitely deserve a pay rise 😉
