Breakfast
The room was not very clean. Bed was horrendous, extremely lumpy.
Lack of plug sockets.
Very hot.
Evening meal, starter was good, but main was awful and undercooked. Dessert was like face cream, thick and tasteless. Whole meal felt very rushed.
Breakfast was very good, best part of start stay.
Such a shame!!!
Good location with decent gym and pool area.
My room absolutely stank of damp. It was really overpowering. The food in the restaurant was awful and barely edible. Would definitely not stay again
Space
All was good
I like the decorations and the fact it had a big swimming pool
The tv didn’t work because the WiFi was really poor. We ended up with no tele or making use of the WiFi that we paid extra to use. The breakfast was nice but nothing spectacular.
Me and my partner were contemplating to leave at 10.30 due paying lots of money for a hotel that doesn’t have working facilities.
No water left in rooms. Yet Dunston hall had water, working Wi-Fi and all the nice decorations and utilities working.
All for fraction of the price.
Not much really
The room was not clean, ripped curtains with mould on curtains and on windows,
Dried bogey on wall in bathroom and above beds , didn’t get any direction to the restaurant, only 1 pillow per person, breakfast was stewed where it was sitting under the hot lights for to long, whole hotel was cashless, asked for ground floor room due to a disability and ended up having to use stairs to get to room
Location near the Norfolk Broads and city centre.
Swimming pool although crowded with swimming lessons with young children for 2.5hrs blocking one swimming lane. Sauna but steam room not working. Room reallocated to quieter area of hotel in check in. Float lent to child for swimming.
Room smelt of faecal matter on check in? Drainage from toilet. Toilet not flushing properly and toilet roll holder hanging off. Room set up for two people not three- not enough towels, cups, toilet paper, decaf coffee- only 1 sachet, dirty kettle. Shower gel needed topping up as only a third left in bottle. Room like a sauna and unable to open window enough for air. Dirty fan seen standing so guessed previous guests needed.
Tried to call reception from the room x3 on check in to state concerns- no response. Maintenance needed with toilet issue and toilet roll holder hanging off. Maintenance left box of raw plugs in the bathroom. Toilet didnt improve needing 4 flushes each time.
Spa area- went to relax- no info about childrens group swimming lessons for 2.5 hrs going on so noisy with loud instructors. Blocked swim area to others. Steam room not steamy and requested reset- still didnt work. Jaquizzi out of action since July 2025!!
I received an email 24hrs later whilst been at hotel for one night from bookings.com that jaquizzi was out of action. Nothing about steam room not working or swim lessons in place restricting swim area!
Breakfast- buffet area very poor. Went to get orange juice- no orange taste as too much water been added. Requested a fresh orange juice and happy to pay. Advised no oranges- wow! Many orange juices full cups seen left on the tables as revolting. Went to get scrambled eggs or fried- one very set fried egg seen in greasy dish - desperately needing to be topped up. Scrambled taken but over set and luke warm. Tiny mini long life croissants seen not fresh so 3 equivalent to one. Massive queue for one toast machine. The other machine marked for toasting bagels and croissants!
Requested to speak to Manager or senior staff Sat at breakfast advised no Manager in the hotel. !! Requested a call to my phone or roo- I heard nothing.
Made further breakdown of genuine poor issues on check out Sun am.
Manager and reception staff noted all concerns.
It’s a beautiful old property with a lot of history.
Because of how old it is, there were somethings they weren’t up to standard in our room. Mold on the window sills, dust under the TV cabinet, some stains on the carpet. You can tell the room wasn’t deep cleaned before we checked in.
Location, grounds, swimming pool
Menu in restaurant quite limited
Nice room
Didn't get a menu before you got asked if you wanted to book a table. Again didn't let us know that it was a buffet breakfast, all though refunded straight away
Lovely location, very dog and child friendly.
Bed was very comfortable. I have chronic health issues and widespread body pain so sleeping is difficult but I slept pretty well for me!
The breakfast was ok but not overly good value for money. The walls are quite thin too it seems as we could hear our neighbours tv.
Not enough hangers or towels for room of 4 but asking for extra towels was easy.
The bath tap was a bit dirty underneath.
Fair priced for Easter holiday.
Cleaness of the room. We found hair and foil seal of the toothpaste in the bathroom.
Staff very friendly and helpful as always
Hot tub has been shut down since November, wetroom wasn't working either. Had no hot water i our room. Shower feel off the wall and shampoo dispenser was empty, Shower head and dispenser was sorted out very quickly
No water for the room.
Had small children, and we had to wait an hour to get water to the room.
Restaurant was hugely overpriced for what it was. I had the burger, pricing I was expecting fine dining. There was no flavour at all, straight out of the microwave I imagine.
Kids meal - Chicken tasted terrible.
Mould in the bathroom, with having a family room with small kids not what I expected at all. The lift was making uncomfortable noises.
Really overpriced for what it was.
