The Essex Golf and Country Club

Good place to stay if you want access to road links. Golf course is busy and the lawn mowing starts at 7am so if you want a lie in that's not always an option.

Hotel and staff were lovely. Showers are a nightmare though, the design is terrible as they just leak constantly all over the floor.

Stayed in the old part of hotel ,no 1 corridor was not clean at all fire door cobwebs and dragon flies by the fire exit

Clean and quiet hotel lots of parking .. arrived late so missed dinner so only downside was no real bar meals or snacks

I enjoyed my stay at The Essex, I was a female solo traveller and stayed for 2 nights, I couldn't fault the spa facilities they were lush! The breakfast buffet was a bit small but you could order what you liked from the menu at no extra charge with plenty of options!

Unfortunately there was a problem with the electrics in my room and they had to be rebooted a couple times. The electrics had damaged my hair curling tongs. I mentioned this to the manager and she even tried fixing them which I really appreciated. When they couldn't fix them she stated they would buy me new ones as a replacement! The manager Elaine, emailed me the next day with the order number on Amazon stating they would be delivered the next day, so I am so so chuffed at the help I received from her and couldn't be more grateful I have had the curling tongs replaced. The staff also moved me rooms to another deluxe double to solve the faulty electrics. I am very happy with the staff who were lovely and really helpful.
Would really recommend this hotel.

It was a pleasant stay with clean modern room and bathroom. We were on the ground floor and was woken up at 5am with the person upstairs going to the bathroom and having a walk around on the creaky floor - not ideal when away for a relaxing break. We fell asleep again only to be woken up by golfers with noisy caddies walking right past the open bedroom window as the room window opens out onto the golf course walkway + this happened on Saturday and Sunday morning. EV charger outside kept cutting off part way through charging and only managed 11 miles of charge in 2 days.

On a more positive note, the room came with access to the swimming room, sauna and hot tub which was lovely.

Staff all very pleasant and will return (albeit in an upstairs room] if in the area again - we stayed to attend a nearby wedding at Gosfield Hall. Uber to wedding venue averaged £22 each way

We had a good stay - the pool is a welcome addition - check times families can go in so you’re not disappointed. Staff friendly and helpful. Also we didn’t realise food stopped at 8:30pm so we got a take out. Staff helpful with ordering and gave plates and cutlery etc so no problem. Fire alarm in the middle of the night so all evacuated. It was dealt with efficiently and calmly however not much communication or apologies for disruption from staff the following day. That would have been my expectation. Overall a pleasant stay in nice grounds.

Swimming pool wasn’t open. Hot room with no air con, just one fan. Asked for another as it was so hot but they didn’t have any more.

2nd stay here, great place. Bar only being open till 10pm the only negative for me.

Lovely quiet relaxing stay.
Lovely room with nice modern decor. Spa facilities great but unfortunately the pool was closed during our stay but we made use of the hot tub, sauna and steam room.
Only reason I haven't given five stars is because the pool was closed and the room (mainly bathroom) could have been slightly cleaner.

All in all, a lovely stay, great price for what you get and we will definitely return once the pool is open!

Excellent in everyway

To whom it concerns when i booked there was no mention of the swimming pool been out of action and this was known on the day i booked around 2pm . The lady at reception told us this .
Then when i found out this just after the free cancellation time had elapesd i tried ring you but nobody answered . Very peeved about this .

You are captive to the hotel as there is nothing else close by other than driving. This may explain the varied service level. The female staff were friendly and very helpful while the male staff were arrogant and rude. There is no AC and for some reason the room i had was so hot and the worst of all the rooms our group had. While the area is beautiful and the rooms were good - the stairwell areas had cobwebs at the windows and doors so made you wonder the cleanliness of the hotel. Struggle to say i would recommend staying here.

Clean tutu welcoming staff although the check in could be earlier

Travel lodge would havin been a better option

So much noise coming through the windows from the rooms facing the car park.

Beds not smoothly paid. Cleaning of the room was minimalist.
