Sunbay Hotel

The comfort of the room with the amenities such as the desk and flat screen TV really made the stay enjoyable. The balcony only added to the comfort by taking a break to relax during the day or at night.

Breakfast and the staff.

The hotel was outdated. The breakfast was so bad in terms of sausages were highly processed and tasted like burnt plastic. The eggs were not cooked properly and when we asked for an omlette we were told no. The bacon was hidden in the back and you could only have this if you asked. There were birds in the dining area which left only toast for us to eat which came out burnt most of the time as you were not allowed to change the dial on the toasters.

There were cockroaches in the hotel and praying mantis. The pool was filthy and the kids pool was dangerous for the children who both cut their feet in it leading to us having to make bandages and purchase antiseptic cream.

The room we were put in was on the third floor with a canopy directly outside which was dangerous for the children. I requested to be moved and was told this was not possible and that they would get back to us which they never did.

The room was old and dirty, the air conditioner was noisy and old and the beds had only sheets to cover. The walls were filthy. The bar closed at 5pm and the hotel had constant men in large groups in and out.

Staff was friendly.

Good: large room, comfortable bed. Nice pool area and gardens. Good breakfast buffet.
Bad: No nice bars/restaurants nearby. No towels upon arrival. Fridge made a terrible noise so had to switch it off. Bar closed when we arrived at 7.30pm. We were sent to a scruffy bar where you had to get your own beer from the fridge. Staff never smiled and were unhelpful. I couldn't wait to leave.

We were disappointed with the hotel. Our room was not of a superior standard despite paying extra for this. It was clean, basic but had very tired decor. We had asked for a bath but were unable to use it as no plug despite several requests. Other guests had
better superior rooms! Breakfast was adequate but lacked variation and was often lukewarm. The pool area wasn't always clean and the reception staff bar one lady were unhelpful, dismissive and in my view demoralised by having to deal with constant complaints. We had other guests around us who were very unhappy with the hotel. Having to endure their constant complaints made for very negative company during our stay. It was for us a cheap holiday even so we expected better. The website description of the hotel and pictures of the room standard were misleading in their description. Also there was very little provision of shops and restaurants in the local area. For the elderly traveller this was an issue.

Staff friendly, the pool was lovely and well maintained lots of nice shades. Breakfast ok but could have done with more healthy options. Due to lack of local restaurants and supermarkets would have been better if small shop on site and hotel bar open everyday and evening. I wouldn't visit this hotel again.

I have just come back from 9nights at this hotel.on checking in they gave us cards to get into are room on the 4th floor, we tried to get in with no luck I went back down to reception and they gave me an other card this second card did not work and then we heard someone shout from the room there was someone already in there, they gave us an other room no apology .in are room the fridge I had to unplug it was so noisy the plug sockets were not secure the Shower was cold there was water from the overflow pouring onto a corrugated roof which was keeping us awake. The bar closed at 4pm so no drinks around pool after that time,the Breakfast was poor so all in all a very disappointing stay and would not recommend.

This was the worst hotel we have ever stayed in.
It was in very bad repair dirty.
failed to supply basic amenities for instance no Tea or coffee despite there being a kettle in the room no napkins in the restaurant shower ran cold.
Poor repair in all areas of the hotel, Breakfast was awful and areas generally unkempt and unclean. Poor choice of food.
Pool didn’t appear to have been maintained for debris dunlongets never wiped down.
If I say we were told by new arrivals they were looking to book elsewhere after 1 night this was a shared opinion.
After only one night in the hotel I was covered in bites the next morning.
Not surprisingly on checkout the receptionist didn’t bother to enquire if we had enjoyed our stay.
Very poor value for money.

We were disappointed with our room as we booked a superior room and the room we were given was very basic. It was in need of redecoration with repairs needed to plaster work and poorly finished electrical renovations. No desk, no pictures and stained furniture. One rickety table lamp.

In the bathroom, no cupboards, bath shower had a moldy curtain. Toilet was stained.

We had thought we would have a king size bed but instead there was two double beds so we just used one bed. Be clear when you book if you want a double bed. I asked to change rooms but 3 days in with being told I needed to speak to another manager I gave up. I overheard another guest with the same issue at reception.

Breakfast was low end, often looked like scraps with strange rules about which style of eggs you could have each day. The food didn’t look like the pictures. We stayed for two weeks and never saw a tomato! Restaurant and kitchen staff were consistently miserable as if they didn’t want to be there. Birds were on the table because they weren’t thoroughly clean of crumbs. Almost every time we had the opportunity to look, the sole bar and sole restaurant were closed and no information about restaurant opening times or menus were available anywhere.

On a more positive note. The gardens and pool looked very inviting and were well kept. We didn’t make use of this facility.

Location is a quiet part of the south coast with some nearby hotels overlooking the beach and offering substantially better restaurant/bar services. We used these hotels and other venues for meals and evening drinks. Oistins is a 20 minute walk for supermarket, ATM, great cafe etc. We were happy with the location.

We loved Barbados! Just not the hotel.
