Plaza Grande Hotel

The location is fantastic, right in the heart of the Old Town and within easy walking distance of many attractions. Our bed was very comfortable, and we had a room with a balcony and a wonderful view.

What impressed us most, however, was the truly top-notch service. I’d like to share three examples that made our stay especially memorable.

We arrived from Mashpi Lodge, whose shuttle could only drop us off at a nearby hotel because Plaza Grande was not on their drop-off list. The Plaza Grande staff came over to meet us and helped transfer all of our luggage to the hotel, making the arrival completely effortless.

Another day, we had some leftover food and simply asked whether there was a microwave we could use to reheat it. Instead, the staff took the food to Café Plaza Grande, reserved a table for us, reheated it, and served it beautifully. We were so impressed by the thoughtfulness and level of care.

Finally, on our last day, we had a midnight flight. After checking out and spending the afternoon exploring the Old Town, we returned to the hotel with about two hours to wait before our ride to the airport. When I asked if there might be a more comfortable place for us to spend the time, the staff opened the top floor for us so we could relax and enjoy the beautiful evening view over the illuminated Plaza de la Independencia.

These thoughtful touches went far beyond what we expected and made us feel genuinely cared for. The beautiful location, comfortable room, fantastic view, and especially the outstanding service made our stay at Plaza Grande truly memorable. We would absolutely stay here again.

The breakfast was wonderful. It is not a buffet but one orders from a menu so allow ample time for breakfast. The bed was super comfortable and the bathroom thoughtfully laid out. Staff were especially good. They can get you a taxi to the airport for $20. Food in the dining room was reasonably priced and delicious. One of my favorite hotels in the world.

E nel centro storico riconosciuto dall’ UNESCO e vero che è un po datato ma fa parte della sua storia.

We stayed in a Royal Suite Front King. I paid GBP 203 / USD 267 per night, including breakfast.

A grand, luxury hotel in the old style. An old building beautifully renovated and restored, in a great location with outstanding service. Highly recommended, I doubt there is a better place to stay when visiting Quito. Just beware of the local pick-pockets.

The “Good”:
- Very large, spacious rooms - magnificently and comfortably furnished.
- Spotlessly clean
- Super king sized bed with great quality bed linens and such excellent pillows.
- Excellent location: you are in the heart of historic Quito and within easy walking distance of the major downtown sites; there is so much to see and do close by; and there are many great restaurants to choose from.
- Impeccable full service: responsive, friendly and the highest professional standards.

Beware:
- The over spa-bath shower is difficult to access, and whilst there is plenty of hot water it is difficult to adjust to a comfortable temperature.
- Petty crime is an unfortunate epidemic in many modern cities, put particularly so in Quito. Take sensible precautions to protect your valuables.

Extremely good service and comfortable clean rooms, but the food wasn't brilliant. The staff went above and beyond to support us during the stay, especially as we had a lot of bags. Central location in the old town.

Excellent accommodations and excellent staff.

The Hotel Plaza Grande was an unforgettable stay. The atmosphere is dazzling and the service is even better. Although visitors can stress about the city’s safety, the hotel is placed in one of the safest parts of town. Not to mention, the breakfast is out of this world!

The location is excellent, the hotel is situated directly on Independence Square in the heart of Quito’s historic centre. It’s a stunning colonial building and our large room was really comfortable with everything possible provided and a view of the square that you’d never get tired of looking at. I loved the heavy wooden door to get into our room.
The staff were all outstanding, really exceptional and went above and beyond the call of duty. They were charming, helpful and courteous and each time you went back to the hotel they made you feel welcome. It was clear that they all wanted your stay to be perfect. On the day we had a really early start for a trip to Cuenca they offered to prepare us a breakfast box without us having to ask and even had coffee available. It’s things like that that make a stay special.
We had a wonderful time in Quito and highly recommend the hotel.

It was terrible, they send a note for a party that was going to be in the hotel, I change rooms and the smell!! It was awful, they put me in a room so small that it wasn’t what I paid for, I went to the reception and they said that wasn’t an emergency for them, they didn’t care at all!

We stayed one night at Plaza Grande on our way to the Galapagos for our honeymoon. Despite this being a 1 night stay the hotel treated us so well and made sure our honeymoon was memorable and celebrated. The room was beautiful, and then left us a very nice letter and treats. All of the staff were exceptionally kind and helpful. We are vegetarian and they made us special breakfast boxes for the morning travels. Luis Alberto was at the front desk and made sure to make us feel comfortable and taken care of.
