Hotel Mar de Luz

I liked the free breakfast, the lobby and restaurant staff. The bathroom wasn't too clean, with mold around the edges. The tables in room had sticky bottle and glass marks from previous stays. No coffee or sugar in room even though they has a coffee maker. The rooms have the A/C off until the guest get to room and turn it on. It was super hot for at leat an hour. Not a good experience

This hotel was not as expected. The photos posted by the hotel and on booking websites are a bit deceiving. While the downstairs rooms with kitchens looked ok through the windows, the room I was in upstairs had mold on the ceiling and looked like it had seen better days (one fluorescent lightbulb in corner of the room, curtains did not close all the way etc) . It was ok for one night, but I ended up cancelling my second night as the booking was not what I expected. To be honest, not sure I would I have stayed in the first place had I known what it was like beforehand. As mentioned, the downstairs rooms with kitchens did seem to be in better condition. While other reviewers say it is quiet, the hotel is just off the main road in jaco and I could hear motor cycles reving all night. The sign on the front desk clearly says ‘no prostitution’ as you are checking in. I recommend going on Expedia and looking at some of the lower ranking reviews with photos which might give you a better expectation. The pool was nice and breakfast was fine, great proximity to beach. Overall, fine but do not expect the hotel to look like the more edited photos advertised.

The property had all the great amenities, but the room arrangement was a little bit awkward. A nightstand to lay things on would be a plus and maybe a little more hanging space

I would recommend this property especially for families with small children and teenagers , lots to do like game areas and pools ! Lovely fauna ✌🇨🇦

Hotel was ok a bit outdated but the mold in the apartment was all over the ceilings. Woke up with a sore throat. Pointed out to front desk and he just took pictures.

Plusses: Service was excellent. Pool was very nice. Breakfast was good. Location away from busy street was nice. Plenty of hot water for showering. Minuses: Room needs serious updating. One mattress was saggy. Bed quilts shouted 1970. Two of the nights we had swarm of flying bugs (termites) visit the inside of the room. Saw them climb behind moulding. Didn’t make for a restful night’s sleep.

I had an unsatisfactory experience at the hotel and requested the staff to cancel my second night for a refund. Unfortunately, they declined, and I had to stay for both nights.

Suggestions for Improvement:

Install Intercom Phones: Please provide intercom phones in every room to avoid the inconvenience of walking downstairs from the second floor for assistance.
Ensure Basic Amenities: Toilet paper was missing in my room, and there was no holder for it. The roll was simply placed on top of the toilet tank. Adding a toilet roll hanger is essential.
Fix the AC System: The air conditioning was either too hot or too cold, and the remote control didn’t work. I had to go downstairs in the middle of the night for help, and the front desk staff assisted me.
Secure Bed Backboards: The backboard of the bed was not properly attached and moved toward the wall when I leaned against it. It needs to be screwed securely to the bed frame.
Not enough light in Bathroom: It is hard to shave yourself, not enough light in bathroom.
There is no full size mirror in the bedroom

The price is very reasonable and very nice people Mr. Victor whoowns it as a very nice and conversational person makes you feel welcome

Beautiful property and wonderful people

Anthony and all of the staff were so professional and kind. We felt very safe and loved the pool. A very convenient location and absolutely beautiful. Thanks, Anthony for being so kind and welcoming.

The staff was really great, especially the front desk attendant. Maybe he was the manager. Just what I needed for an evening check-in and a quick stay
It was more of a hotel so I would not stay there again as a solo traveler

Is it getting easy to get out people so nice good for the family?

The hospitality is great area is relaxed. Great area for past time with your partner family.

Money does not go far in Costa Rica. However this is the best value. Though this is not a western standard hotel, the real wood construction and real wood furniture give it a superior regal feel. The four pools of all different temperature suround by a tropical garden makes it a local resort. The water is chilled in some pools. At the highway a left turn across the bridge and first right street will bring you to the ocean (short pleasant walk). There is a raked beach, fancy restaurant, beach chair rental. Also across the bridge is the start of all the noisy restaurants, shops, bars and general activity of the town for 3km. The other direction (hwy right) is the quiet end town and bus station. The local CR breakfast was filling, however, you need to make reservation.
