Comfortable bed clean room and beautiful views of the ocean it felt like you were in pacific Island 🏝
I did not stay longer
Super super comfy bed and amazing buffet breakfast. I wish I let myself try the waffles and the pancakes, I'm sure we'll stay again to give them a go though.
Not a lot to dislike really but if we had to point something out... The shower was a bit out dated, the pressure wasn't so great and the bathroom fan was super loud and there was paper between the fan and the ceiling I guess to try to minimize noise.
We had a nice view of the sea and the room itself was spacious and comfortable. Would recommend booking one of the renovated rooms. Housekeeping was efficient, room was all made up by the time we got back from breakfast. We had in-room dining in the evening and the food came very fast and was tasty. Very friendly staff throughout. Tennis court was also great to play on.
There were flies everywhere in the main dining area, as well as in the room when we checked in. Can tell the place is a bit dated. Limited parking, first come first serve.
Amazing sea view and beautiful pools. Only one warm pool but enjoyable for children. Children's activities room was nice.
The sea view and location was lovely
The pool and spa was not clean and the water looked dirty.
The room was ok but the bathroom definitely needs upgrading.
The location was perfect for the event we needed to attend in the area.
I had high expectation being the hotel was a 4star and the fact that its a copthorne. The room feels dirty.
Complimentary transfer into town
We were actually very disappointed with our stay at the Copthorne Hotel & Resort Bay of Islands. It started when we got to our room and the toilet had been used (not flushed), then our basin in the bathroom wouldn't drain so we had to pull the plug right out and found it was clogged full of hair and black gunk. When we reported this to reception it was met with a blank look, we did managed to get someone to go and clean it so we could use the basin but there was no apology whatsoever. We spent some time in the hot pool which we discovered had black/dark green moss growing in it that came off and floated around us. Didn't feel particularly hygienic. We asked various questions which went unanswered as the staff we spoke to didn't understand English particularly well.
All in all I would say the standard is very low considering Copthorne Hotels have a good name. I work for an inbound travel company and have had clients stay there before but after my visit, there would have to be lots of changes to make me want to book them in again.
Lastly, I wrote this in a message through Booking.com and to date have not received a reply.
The buffet breakfast & beds were comfortable
Stay could have been elevated by having a full size mirror, slippers & robes, bottled water and a fitness facility (gym). Mini bar in room would have been nice or at least in the suites.

Very beautiful. Clean sheets and friendly staff
Very old and dirty carpets. Make the feeling of everything dirty. And not easy parking
Beautiful views, amazing buffet breakfast and friendly staff
Our room was not very clean, waited over an hour to check in, and 20mins past check in time (they had a full house, which I can appreciate. But still not ideal after a long day of travelling with two kids). Also the facilities need an upgrade, for the price I paid the room was outdated.
The location was good. Breakfast buffet was great.
The dinner buffet didnt have much options for those that dont eat beef.
Location & pool facilities are always the reason why you book here. Buffet breakfast is pricey but convenient. Staff are kind.
The water pressure in the rooms is terrible & the 1ply toilet paper is atrocious. The hotel is outdated and in need of some work.
Location was great
Dirty sheets
Dirty towels
Dirty bathroom
And very soft, sinking bed. Couldn’t sleep.
Beautiful location
Although the restaurant wasn’t busy, we were advised to choose the buffet. Not everyone in our group wanted the buffet, but we were told the whole table had to select the same option, rather than mixing buffet and à la carte.
