This such a unique hotel. Only 17 rooms and we got to know all the staff. Amazing decor throughout, lovely large room with exceptional amenities. Right on the canal. Breakfast was bountiful and tasty.
We couldn’t stay longer.

The rooms, the location and the staff

Frederich was amazing, so kind, and the staff were remarkable. It was the perfect mix between a luxury hotel and a bed and breakfast. We loved our location and the ability to be on the canal but away from the central squares. We will always stay here when we go back.
Wir wurden sehr freundlich von Lukas empfangen, der uns direkt auf einem Stadtplan die Sehenswürdigkeiten der Stadt erklärt und auf der Karte eingezeichnet hat. Dann hat er uns durch das Hotel geführt und wir haben auf der Terasse ein Getränk zu uns genommen. Danach waren unsere Gepäckstücke auf dem Zimmer, Kleidersäcke ordentlich im Schrank aufgehängt, Taschen verstaut. Das komplette Ambiente des Hotels ist urgemütlich und sehr gepflegt.
Am nächsten Morgen hat uns er Inhaber beim Frühstück sehr sympathisch persönlich begrüsst. Das Frühstück ist excellent. Am Abend hält die Bar eine sehr gute Auswahl an Getränken vor. Der Aufenthalt war wirklich sehr schön. Man merkt in jeder Ecke, dass die Familie das Hotel mit Herzblut führt.
Man könnte darüber meckern, dass es nichts zu meckern gibt... :-)
Unfortunately, my experience at this hotel did not fully meet my expectations. We specifically selected a suite with a view, but the suite we received did not have the expected view and mainly overlooked the roof.
The suite was also arranged over two levels with a very steep staircase, making it unsafe and unsuitable for a family with children, especially at night. The layout and staircase should have been clearly disclosed before confirming the booking, or a safer alternative should have been offered.
The reception staff were kind, welcoming, and helpful, and I appreciated their good service. However, one member of the housekeeping staff made us feel unwelcome, and her manner toward us was noticeably different and uncomfortable.
Overall, the room did not match what we selected or what we expected considering the hotel’s standard and price.

It’s a really nice location, just a short walk from the busy centre but without all the noise. The terrace is a lovely reprieve from the busy city centre and it was really nice to be by the river.
The staff are very welcoming and friendly. They were great with our two kids.
The room was spacious and the beds were comfy. We were also given a fresh bowl of fruit which was a lovely touch. The girls enjoyed the jacuzzi bath tube.
The decor is beautiful too it’s very nicely curated. The whole hotel has a very sophisticated but still relaxed vibe.

Perfect in every way. Beautiful hotel in quiet location. About a 5 to 10 minute walk to Brugge’s plazas. Professional staff, friendly and incredibly helpful. Breakfast on patio on the canal, or afternoon drinks. Elegantly decorated. We stayed in a suite on the canal. This is our second time at Van Cleef - exceptional.
The hotel was beautiful - the design so chic and a feast for the eyes. The location was wonderful - in a quiet area not overrun by tourists but centrally located. The restaurant recommendations by the staff were wonderful - we ate at great, local spots. We can’t wait to return!
This was a 5 star experience without reservation. Let’s list all 5 star aspects:
Location (close to all sites to visit via a short walk yet away from the crowds - perfect!), facility (impeccable decorative taste, gorgeous common areas, the room was beautiful and spacious- we had a lovely canal view and the patio for breakfast and evening cocktails was a gem as we watched tour boats pass by with expressions of envy!), service (above and beyond with such personalized care - this family owned business surely made us feel like honored guests- helpful at every turn). What more can I say, the Van Cleef set the bar for all of our future travels!
