Close to Hongqiao airport and Shanghai Zoo
Pros:

Booked to stay in the Grand Mercure Shanghai Hongqiao from 22 December 2025 to 8 January 2026. The welcoming hotel Reception staff upgraded me to a suite on the 21st floor without my asking (I am an Accor-all member). The suite came with a washing machine, and high-end toilet in the bathroom that has a heated seat and built-in bidet. I booked to stay here because it's not far from Shanghai Hongqiao train station, from where I caught a bullet train to Taizhou, to see the Southern end of the Great Wall, and also close by car to Shanghai Hongqiao airport, from where I booked flights for short trips to Xi'an (to see the Terracotta Army), and Xiamen island. The hotel is not far from Shanghai Zoo where you can go see the giant pandas, also not far from small and big shopping malls. It's easy to get private cabs to go into the city to visit Yu Garden, Museums, etc. The hotel staff in the Restaurant, in the Cafe, in the Sauna are all very helpful. Reception staff guided me to purchase a China mobile number on arrival day and it did make things easier. The suite and view from the suite was amazing. I would definitely stay here again.
