Baylis Park Hotel

Checking in was slow and confused, with added disinterest as a bonus.
Rooms very, very badly need renovating. Whole hotel in fact seems to need to start from scratch. All fixtures worn and damaged, floor peeling, chunks out of the plaster, bathroom cabinets falling apart, mould round the bath, black silicone etc. etc.
There needs to be an urgent review of housekeeping, such as having some.
First room had a fan only, and this had clearly never been cleaned, because there was dust hanging off it in clumps. Second room had a/c (which is mentioned on my booking) but it was fairly ineffective and also looked filthy. I was sneezing through the night most likely because of dust. The windows needed repair and were a struggle to keep open. The detritus in the gutter outside shows quite how rarely and ineffectively the hotel is maintained. The service room and security centre was left open and again a quick look in there showed utter disarray.
I cannot rule out the possibility that some of the rooms are nice, but I saw two rooms and common areas leading to them and they were barely habitable. No resemblance to the photos on this website I am afraid.
I am not sure how the 4-Star rating has arisen, but it urgently needs review because it is completely misleading.
I strongly recommend avoiding this hotel until something fundamental has changed.

The reception staff were hard to understand, I couldn’t work my television as the remote needed batteries that reception didn’t have, so I had to order them in with a food delivery. The bedrooms are essentially right next to the function room, so I couldn’t get to sleep till after midnight. The tea/coffee and milk weren’t replenished, the room had supposedly been cleaned but it was still dirty and when I left and stripped the bed, it was absolutely disgusting! I was also made to pay an additional sum at check in with no explanation why & booking.com have stated no additional payment was necessary, I’ve messaged the property about this with no response. And the floorboards had given way at the bottom of the bed. I will never stay here again and as this was for work will be telling my firm to not use this hotel!

Nothing like what the pictures show. Dirty, windows missing, windows broken, run down

The whole place is in a state/bad condition and dirty. My room had a broken toilet seat, a shower hanging on the wall by a thread, damp/mold and broken tiles in the bathroom, and the bathroom cupboard had an old moldy toilet roll in it! Clearly they do not check all the cupboard and drawers. There was no kettle or hair dryer, but there were milk sachets and tea bags indicating three should have been a kettle - although the milk sachets were dated 2025! Place has so much potential as the building has real character and the drive up to it is grand and impressive, but upkeep inside is terrible and the place is realistically a dump. Such a shame!

No Remote and the hole in the floor

First and foremost, I booked a double room with a queen sized bed for £98 on booking.com.

When I got to the property apparently I had booked a twin room with two small beds that costed £20 extra

My card was charged an extra £20 and I was refunded in cash

Then I was informed that the only double room available did not have AC and the only room available with an AC had two twin beds

When I asked for water, I was informed by the staff that stock had run out and there was no water to drink so then I had to order water through delivery

The location is also really hard to find as there is no sign boards but there is a massive signboard of an Indian restaurant

All in all terrible experience, and I will not be back
