Lovely relaxed vibe. Amazing to have the different areas to sit, relax and have a drink. Afternoon looked amazing. The Sally Gap was a great place for drinks and dinner. Sika, amazing food and service. We received a lovely upgrade for our honeymoon to a junior suite.
We stayed at Powerscourt Hotel Resort & Spa in February as a birthday treat. The hotel holds special memories for us, so we were really looking forward to returning.
There were several positives. The room was excellent — spacious and very comfortable. Although we were disappointed that Sika Restaurant was closed, the food in the bar was very good and the staff were pleasant throughout (service was a little slow due to how busy it was). We also enjoyed the pool area.
However, a few issues detracted from the stay. Breakfast fell below what I would expect from a five-star hotel — the eggs were cold and the coffee really very poor. We also paid extra for the Salt Experience and thermal area, which felt underwhelming, and some facilities (the steam room in the gents’ area and the sauna in the ladies’ area) were out of order.
The main issue, however, was that maintenance work was carried out directly on the balcony outside our room for the entire morning — from breakfast until we checked out. This meant we couldn’t enjoy the view and had to keep the curtains closed for privacy.
I have raised these issues directly with hotel management since our stay. While there were certainly positive aspects to our visit, the overall experience was disappointing.
Luxurious and fabulous surroundings
Cannot say enough good things about Powerscourt Hotel, and the friendly people who work there. We truly had wonderful service from everyone we met over the years staying at the hotel. However, a few names deserve particular mention during our most recent stay at the start of the new year.
Siabh, on duty at check-in, made us feel so welcome and at home the second we arrived. Having checked-in to the assigned room, we immediately knew that the room layout wouldn’t be suitable for our week-long stay, therefore we requested a change of room.
I could see that she wasn’t ‘authorised’ to make the change for us (mind you we were actually asking for a more compact room and not an upgrade), however, it didn’t look promising to begin with and I was getting anxious.
Seeing how ‘desperate’ I was, she went out of her way, back-and-forth, requesting for us. In the end, thankfully the hotel authority accommodated our request and Siabh called in another lovely staff member, Archie, to help us with the room change. Thank you for going the extra mile for us Siabh, the room change did make a big positive difference to our stay.
Archie was a joy. He was engaging, knowledgeable and articulate. He went above and beyond to help us with the room move, including shuffling an arm chair from one room to another, he was professional, generous, and attentive, all to make sure our stay would be as comfortable as it can be. Young Archie, you are a star, thank you for your hard work and attentiveness, you will go far I am sure of it.
At Sika restaurant, Nermina whose personality simply shines, she is warm, hospitable and efficient, with good humour and down to earth. We enjoy all our chit-chats with her over the years; this year in particular, to our surprise, she remembers we’d sometimes order a peppermint tea at the end of our meals and asked if we would like one. That level of attention to details is truly impressive, you really are a special one Nermina, thank you.
During our stay at the Powerscourt Hotel, we like to take as many walks as we can exploring the charming Estate. Visiting the Powerscourt House & Gardens is a must, we also make sure to allocate plenty of time for walking trails throughout the picturesque grounds, especially along the river and woodland. After our nature walks, we would typically visit the hotel’s amenities - pool, gym, and spa - perfect for unwinding and relaxing.
Please make sure to stop by the spa as the service there is nothing short of magnificent! MoreBlessing, Kai and Fatima all provided truly exemplary service.
MoreBlessing was helpful and friendly. She gives you the biggest smile, from the heart, not because she works for a hotel and that she is supposed to smile, you can tell from your interactions with her that she is genuinely wanting to help and is there for you whatever you need.
I only had a short time spent with therapist Kai, I enjoyed her company, she is professional, attentive, overall simply a very sweet person, I really appreciate her attentiveness and care during my treatment.
During our entire stay at the hotel, what truly blew me away this time was my massage treatment with Fatima. If you ever visit the spa, I highly recommend booking a treatment with her well in advance as I was told that she is mostly fully booked.
I get massage therapies regularly and with each visit to any hotel that I stay, I make sure to book a massage during my stay also. And in my personal experience, out of the almost 50 places I have visited, I can honestly say that Fatima is one of the top three. Fatima is not your average specialist, she comes with decades of experience, and her skills and sensibility is second to none.
Fatima has a masterful knowledge of human body, and the reason I can evidently say this is because I was having a terrible migraine for days, and nothing could ease, I became stressed and anxious because the migraine wasn’t going away even though I was having a break at a lovely hotel and I didn’t why I wasn't feeling better or how to fix it, I shared with Fatima that was my condition and she looked me in the eyes, with such comfort, sincerity and kindness, assuring me that she would try to help and that everything will be ok. My eyes seriously welled up right there and then.
Needless to say, my massage treatment with Fatima was incredible, and I could tell that she was targeting areas to relieve and treat my migraine. And guess what, my migraine was lifted, gone. Un-believable, seriously, not days later, but instantly after my treatment with her. I no longer suffered that awful headache that I couldn’t shake off for days, and I was able to enjoy the remaining time we had staying at the hotel more.
I know I might sound naive but to me I found the before/after experience truly miraculously. To this day I am still amazed by the treatment, and the calmness and genuine care Fatima so generously gifted me, even though to put it frankly, I really am just a stranger to her, a random guest staying at the hotel. Yet, she looked after me with such empathy and a big heart. I left the spa speechless and somewhat overwhelmed. Dear Fatima, you are an angel, thank you once again from the bottom of my heart.
Finally, the ‘gatekeeper’, the quiet achiever, and we name him super concierge Mossy, who left an impression from our very first visit to the hotel years ago is as wonderful and dedicated as ever. It doesn’t matter who you are, where you are from, he embraces you with outstanding hospitality. Nothing is ever too much trouble with Mossy, he never fails to go above and beyond, and not because he needs to, but just because the way Mossy is, a true gentleman with a sincere heart.
Thank you to all you lovely staff members at Powerscourt Hotel so much for everything, this was not our first stay, and I’m sure it won’t be our last.
PS.
During our stay, the sauna and steam room area was under renovation - my husband was particularly looking forward to being in this dark stone-cladded room where you pull down a robe and a bucket of cold water would splash over you to relieve the heat you get from the sauna. He was disappointed that the area was closed and I am writing here in the hope that during renovation you would consider keeping such a feature as it is special and seems to be only available at Powerscourt’s spa.
PPS. We understand you can’t bring back the tv in the bathroom but please don’t ever take away the underfloor heating in the bathroom, thank you!! : )
Amazing place in the woods with very kind and polite staff.
Pool was too busy when kids were allowed to swim.
PH IS ALWAYS A BIG WOW!! Never fail us. Myself and my husband stayed last Feb 18th .
We received it as a Xmas pressies from our daughter. It was a Fabulous stay from the checking in , we were informed that we got a room upgrade and not only that, We got , I think it’s a presidential suite! OMG! What as surprise! Massive beautiful room, or should I say it’s like a house with kitchen, massive beautifully decorated bathroom , bedroom, kitchen , toilets x 2, massive beautiful bathroom and toiletries. It was a top notch as always! 10/10!!❤️Everything was Fabulous! Beautiful balcony overlooking the sugarloaf mountain. Beautiful breakfast, pool and jacuzzi. It’s always like a brand new hotel!done with perfection nearly !❤️❤️❤️
It was the most amazing experience from the moment you walk in. Sitting at the fire while having the best scones (my wife said it, so it must be true) was just the start of our afternoon. Looking out of the window with the green and mature trees satisfies your eyes too.
I felt the lobby has such an atmosphere that brought me back the feeling when we were young and just had all the time in the world. Time stops when you sit down and look around . It just made me feel the door of the hotel shut my troubles outside.
Having dinner in the room or not, jumping in the pool or going to the sauna were the most important decisions we had to make.
The breakfast is just something you feel you do not deserve with honeycomb and everything you need.
Oh, and when you happen to look back at yourself that is not a mirror, but the golden elevator.
Amazing service, staff is very polite and helpful from the doorman, through receptionist, waitresses and spa staff. The cleaners do an exceptional job. Everything is spotless.
This beautiful hotel is easily accessible from the M50. Parking is substantial with facilities for electric vehicles. There are also complimentary bikes for exploring the extensive grounds and walks. There are nearby places of interest and not to be missed is the very traditional Irish Johnny Fox’s pub, a short taxi ride from the hotel itself. Most striking are the sumptuous furnishings both fixed and free standing. The rooms, lounges and restaurants are fitted out to a very high standard and restrooms are exceptionally maintained.
Turning to our experience, we were most fortunate to be upgraded to a beautiful suite, although the “standard” rooms equate to the regular hotel luxury status. Reception was very friendly and efficient with porters on hand. This is where first impressions in this hotel win the guest from the off. Amid the exclusive surroundings one feels immediately welcome and included.
The Sika restaurant is fine dining at its best with a good choice menu whilst the Sugar Loaf lounge provides a more casual option and a well stocked bar. Either way service and delivery is prompt around a welcoming and well informed staff. There are many comfortable seating areas in a spacious environment, with garden views to relax, read, browse or just watch the world go by, perhaps with afternoon tea.
The spa is like a different world with atmospheric music and a relaxing lighting ambience. Treatments choice is extensive and the whole layout exudes peace and very importantly, for a spa, absolute cleanliness and freshness.
As frequent hotel travellers, we rate Powerscourt as one of the few very best experiences we have had across Ireland, Scotland and Southern England. If you seek true hospitality excellence then this is a must to try.
Great location, friendly staff, spacious
We had a superb experience this evening in Sika. front of house was fantastic. A special mention to our waiter Ionut who was very attentive and fantastic throughout. The food and service was incredible and pace of service was ideal for the portions we had. I would highly recommend and excellent value for money
My daughter and I stayed for a one night package which included a €50 dining voucher. Our accommodation was first class- a luxurious bedroom and elegant bathroom. Following a late check-in we dined in the classy and cosy Sally Gap Brasserie which featured a varied menu selection followed by an after dinner cocktail at the bar.
Breakfast the next morning was served in the Sika Restaurant with panoramic views of the Sugar Loaf and Wicklow mountains. The menu catered to every taste and the staff were both welcoming and attentive to our requests.
A visit to the spa and swimming pool in our hotel fluffy bathrobes was next on our list and it did not disappoint. The ambient lighting, gorgeous pool and sauna ensured we were revitalised by the time we checked out to explore the nearby village of Enniskerry and the Powerscourt Estate.
We will definitely return!
Great location to chill out.
