We were attending an appointment in Dublin and decided to have breakfast at Powerscourt on our way back home to Wexford. This was going to allow us to check out the hotel as we try stay away a couple of times a year as a treat.
On entering we asked could we have breakfast and were led downstairs by a friendly and chatty attendant. On arriving at the breakfast room we were rudely turned away by the maître d' stating they were too busy. Extremely rude and dismissive.
Understand if a hotel is busy but the manner and how we were treated was not to be expected in a “premium” hotel. We’ve been lucky enough to stay at Adare, Shelbourne, The Westbury and others over the years. This is not on par with these hotels. Would not stay or recommend based on the interaction of the main staff there.
We stayed five nights at the hotel. The food was very good at Sally Gap and Sika. Sika best for a more relaxed and quiet dining experience while Sally Gap was much louder, but food was good. We were informed upon arrival the first evening dinner reservation at Sally Gap we had a 1:45 minute time slot for our table which I’ve never been lectured about before in person. We had read the notice and were well aware of it and happily made it through our meal with five minutes to spare. We could have exited much sooner had the kitchen brought out our food sooner but it was slow. Lots of families with small children having fun, great place for kids.
Sika was our choice two nights and the food was excellent as was the waiter Alvyn who we had both evenings. Special thanks to his attention to an allergy and his cheerful attitude.
Porter named Tatoo was always helpful, remembered our names and always pleasant when we saw him. Outstanding service with attention to detail.
Bill Floyd the customer service manager did a fine job attending to an issue with a mechanical problem in our room and moved us to another to make things right. He was great to work with.
This hotel does not have a concierge and communications can be confusing at times. Overall the staff is friendly, rooms clean, but we come to expect a well oiled machine when we stay at an Autograph hotel but did not feel that way here at Powerscourt.
Beautiful grounds and building.
Staff lovely, breakfast really nice and very comfy bed.
We went for my boyfriend's birthday and during email exchanges prior to our stay, I was assured by staff that an amenity of some sort would be left in our room, to make his birthday stay extra special. Sadly nothing was left in our room which was definitely a disappointment from a 5-star hotel :(
The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. We enjoyed walking around the grounds and the access to the gardens etc was ideal.
The food was delicious and well portioned. The selection of teas for Afternoon tea was exceptional.
It was very clean from the room itself to the WC facilities. And the rooms themselves were quite spacious.
The spa and pool facilities were lovely, very clean and easy to access. It was quite relaxing overall. We enjoyed our stay for its ease of access and environment.
We did not like the inability to open a window in our room. We had to rely on the air conditioning which was not ideal considering I have an allergy to air conditioning which causes eye, nose and throat issues. So it meant it was quite uncomfortable. We had to turn off the air conditioning at night which meant the room was stifling hot. It was rather an inconvenience to have windows that do not open and not to have any fresh air coming in, especially in the countryside setting.
My husband was also not impressed that we paid 28 euro each for breakfast and the cooked elements were an additional payment.
The position of the bed to the tv was also very awkward, as the unit faced the window and only one armchair was available to sit on so only one of us could relax in the evening and watch TV at the correct angle. Perhaps a small sofa would be a better addition to a double room than a singular armchair..
Afternoon Tea was very nice
Nothing
A great choice for breakfast
Hard to get food from bar - had to book into restaurant. We wanted something simple. Couldn't charge our electric car.
The property is absolutely stunning. The staff is incredible. The rooms are beautiful. The location is very remote which we loved but some may not. We loved visiting the Gardens which were right next door and walking on the River Path.
I had a Spa treatment and it was amazing. Both the massage and the facilities that I was allowed to use after my treatment.
The location may be too remote for some people.
Because of the remoteness of the property we are dinner on site all three nights. While the service and food were excellent, the choices were limited.
Getting fresh coffee in the morning was the hardest part of our stay. A hotel of this caliber should serve fresh coffee in the lobby in the morning for those who get up early and are not quite ready for breakfast. The KCups in the room just don’t cut it and the service in the breakfast room is not set up for that.
Lovely room, very spacious and comfortable ... Breakfast excellent, Very warm welcome from staff and very helpful suggestions as to where to spend our time while at the hotel including directions to a lovely forest walk
No complaint and no suggestions for a better experience
I am writing to express my gratitude for the exceptional hospitality during my stay. In particular, I would like to recognize the lady at the reception who handled my check-in on May 26th. She was extremely helpful, polite, and provided excellent service. Her warm hospitality made my stay unforgettable. Thank you so much for the exceptional service!
Several reviews mention air conditioning that is not working. I ignored those. I'm sorry I did.
This is a beautiful hotel with attentive staff and gorgeous surroundings. The only blemish on our stay was the air conditioning that was not working during record, hate in Ireland for May.
The staff said they would look into the malfunction . Thankfully they had two fans on hand to bring to our room.
With more record heat on the way, and the prices they charge, this property deserves an investment in working air conditioning.
We're not the first to complain about the air conditioning. I hope we will be among the last.
Everything were perfect
