The beach, facilites and overall the staff.
Nice hotel and nice beach
Very disappointing experience. Reserved a room with 3 beds and air conditioning. Upon arrival we were shown to our room and 2 of the beds were upstairs with no AC and no fan. With it being over 100° during the day it was impossible to sleep in the upstairs area as we are accustomed to sleeping in AC and paying $200 per night for a unit with AC. We could have easily booked a hostel at a fraction of the cost.
Sadly that's not the worst part. After a long day of travel I was ready for rest but when I pulled the sheets back I found rat poop all over the bed. I called the front desk and was assured someone would come by and change the sheets. After waiting 45 mins no one showed. I called 3 more times with no result. I then went to the desk in person. At this point they sent someone with me with new sheets. Clearly we didn't want to stay another night but after 2 hours of this it was now 10pm and we didn't have much of a choice for that night. The next morning we talked with Elmer, the manager, he was aware of our situation and agreed to refund our money. He said it would be 3 days for the refund. Now after 14 days we have received no refund and Elmer has said in emails that he is not refunding us our entire stay. This is unacceptable.
Do yourself a favor and stay elsewhere. The beds are unsanitary and they are dishonest.
We were the only couple there.
Old and hadn't been updated
Very overrated on Expedia
Grounds seemed to be maintained but not the whole resort
It is a beautiful place but the staff and service is terrible. We had to wait until 5,30 for our room. Food is good, expensive for here. Staff is very slow, dont clean up, no maid service. They act like we are inconvenience to them. Piss poor management. Very disapointed in lack of service.
You cannot see the beach from the rooms, despite being described as beachview.
The property is fantastic; the beach is empty with nice white sand, but the rooms are very basic.
Recommend having a car as the hotel is isolated
The place was awesome and perfect tor our meeting. If I lived closer, I would be going all the time. Derling at the front was exceptional. You have a good team there.
the good:
- Friendly and available staff (Derling, Ismael, Silvia). The admin manager (Elmer Ruiz) was very understanding and appreciative of my feedback.
- Very nice decoration, especially main cottage with the restaurant and waiting area.
- Bungalows are individual 2-story cottages some with a fan and some with AC. My bungalow had a fan, enough for ventilation because there is no TV and not enough artificial light to read, I spent most time outside. My room had a mosquito net, which did not close properly, which is more or less fine. Bring insect repellent.
- Several activities like bicycle riding and horse riding which a plus (Francisco the caretaker was excellent).
the bad:
- The pool water was green and turbid, not so inviting but other guests didn't seem to mind
- The hotel needs more direct paths to the beach, guests need to step over broken sticks and branches, dry leaves, to reach the sand or walk all the way through the main cottage.
- My bungalow: Shower water pressure was quite low so showering took a while (not so eco friendly)
- My bungalow: need of maintenance, some loose and rusty screws at knee height for injury and risk of tetanus.
- My bungalow: No WiFi, there are many APs but not all APs were working.
the ugly:
- My bungalow: had 2 bats inside, and bats carry rabies, therefore this is a public health hazard. Front desk and hotel management didn't realize the public health issue.
For all these points, I cannot give the hotel more than 3 stars.
The hotel lobby is absolutely gorgeous. The staff is nice and courteous. The food is very good but more expensive for cocktails and dining in. Other restaurants are far and the road is not very nice. The secluded and private beach is a few steps away and has the most beautiful sunsets. They have a bomb fire on the beach at night and security is present. The rooms are typical open style with netting with a really unique outdoor shower. We really enjoyed our stay here.
Spectacular location!!!!!
Great staff and very nice facility.
Understand this is kinda civilized ‘roughing it’.
The thatch roof bungalows will have normal stuff falling inside with wind.
The bathroom courtyards are awesome, but a small bit of regular insecticide is needed.
I strongly recommend getting a bedroom with A/C, even if you do not want to use it... it’ll mean a better bedroom and sleeping experience... the bedroom ceiling will be solid (not thatch) and as insect free as is possible in a tropic location.
I would definitely return... great experience!!!
We spent three nights in this most beautiful location and were thoroughly looked after by the kind and attentive staff. The beach was deserted and perfect for walking and watching the sun set. I liked the idea that the hotel is aiming to minimise their carbon footprint and happily slept without feeling the need for air conditioning or use of the fan, simply with windows wide open listening to the waves crash on the shore. In short, our three day break was perfect!
One of the best staffs we have ever experienced they went above and beyond to make you feel like family !! 😃
The hotel and the area is amazingly beautiful and relaxed. I loved the free surf/body board and the beach as well as the bungalow and the hangout area.
The negative things I have to say is that it was quite expensive with the food and their taxi services they offered was way overpriced. It was also a very difficult location to reach. But if you want a relaxed place to enjoy beach and surf as well as are not on a budget, this is the place to go!
Very beautiful! Everything you need is right there. Very quiet. Clean. Comfortable.
We wanted to stay a few days on the Pacific coast of Nicaragua, but away from crowded beaches and this place fit the bill. We were often the only ones on the beach. Sadly, sometimes the locals will kill the turtles for their eggs when they come up on the sand to lay them, and we witnessed this on our final day. We enjoyed the food on offer and the little touches that were everywhere around the property. LOVED the outside shower in our outdoor bathroom, which was very private, and there was an indoor toilet in the upper level of our cabana. Crashing waves lulled us to sleep each night.
Pros: on the beach, no crowds, amazing staff (especially Mario and the other young bartender/waiter whose name we never caught), horses, privacy, and good food.
Cons: no AC (although the breeze from the ocean almost made up for this), slippery stairs due to the highly polished wood, wimpy pillows (we actually added the two from the beds upstairs), and a long bumpy drive on dirt road for the last few kilometres to get there. The outside toilet was swarmed by ants at night which may also be off-putting to some. Thus was not an issue during the day.
During my stay the hotel lost power every single day, for at least half the day with no explanation or help from the staff. I’m not exactly sure how you run a hotel without electricity? This place is very difficult to get to, you have to have an suv to get to this very remote location and even then you will question it somewhere along the 1.5 hour drive down the access “road”. Other highlights include no hot water, very uncomfortable beds, maids that don’t show up to clean and constant bug bites throughout the night. Save yourself the trouble.
Great location, great service, great beach, great villa but long ride to get there.
Excelente.
