I would definitely stay at the Stilwell on future trips to Carmel.
Pros:

The location was excellent; close to everything we wanted to see. The design of the hotel and especially the outdoor common areas were exceptional.

Pros:

Bed and beddings were super comfortable. It’s peaceful and has delicious dinner choices on site.

On line photos don’t tell the real story
Pros:

The staff was very nice and helpful

Cons:

Rooms are smaller and more expensive than
Japan. Found it impossible to get the room dark very bright led lights outside all night and windows coverings let the light in

Good breakfast, nice outdoor areas, clean room
Pros:

Clean room, finally was able to be moved to a floor level room to an upstairs room and it is a much better experience

Cons:

I did not realize this is a motel. The room we were originally in had a car parked right at our back window and the front window offered zero privacy either. We were met with a very rude attitude when we asked if we could move upstairs. The motel was not to capacity and the rooms were available so it did not make sense. Eventually we met a nicer man who helped us get moved. For $800 a night it was a very odd exchange.

Great location, clean and stylish, a place I will definitely come back to.
Pros:

Hotel was at Perfect location and very clean. Staff was friendly, especially the young happy guy at the breakfast buffet.

Cons:

It lacked a bit of personality and coziness….event though it was a cozy space, it lacked a bit of heart and soul. But overall I would definitely stay there again!
