Excellent
Pros:

Location was 1st rate, secluded and remote, you felt that you could leave all of life's stresses behind. Breakfast was great, all local produce, from the bread and individually packed butter, to the local bacon, sausage and eggs etc. Our room was very good, we had a very comfortable and restful night. All the staff were very helpful, couldn't do enough to help, they made our stay very welcoming, from arrival to checking out. We were both very pleased with our stay and experience at Wood Hall Spa hotel. 👍

Cons:

The shower was excellent, apart from a slow draining and troublesome plug hole. Apart from that we have nothing to report.

My 24 hour stay at East Wood Hotel on 2nd May
Pros:

I was part of a group of 78( mostly adults) having a 24 hour get together with dinner, b&b and a small cultural function.

Our event was on 2nd May and wanted to wait at least a week to cool down before giving this review.

Very pleased that about 10 rooms were ready to get checked in just after 1 pm.
The upstairs rooms has to be accessed via 2 x sets of stairs with the single lift out of action- totally unsatisfactory. We had very senior members attending with limited mobility. The room was clean but very little facilities and not even glasses to drink.

We perceived from the organising team that our function will be in the conference hall with dinner next door. Sadly this was not to be. In this process, 3 x of us spoke with the duty Manager Sebastian( I think), who was not very helpful with an attitude take it or leave it.During the discussions for over half hour,he alleged one of us to be patronising where in fact Sebastian himself was patronising.

McGregor suite on ground floor was totally unsuitable for our group of nearly 80. This room in my view was totally unsuitable for our purpose but this was the only option. The snack room next door can only have 4 x round tables when nearly half of us were snacking on the corridor.

Dinner was pushed back to 20.30 by the hotel and against our expectations,we were offered mostly long tables crammed together which made serving quite difficult and time consuming.

Overall, it was a very bad experience for our group and I shall not recommend bigger groups to book at East Wood unless the organising team ensures site visit a detailed written description of what has been agreed.

Disappointing Hotel Stay
Pros:

Very disappointing stay. Firstly, be careful of all the pot holes on the long driveway up to the hotel. Seems lovely when you arrive but check in was poor, not very personable for a 4 star establishment. Stayed in the room Mulberry. Room was ok, a little tired as was the bathroom. Very poor plumbing.

Dirty laundry bags sat on the floor in the short corridor outside our room for the full 2 days of our stay as did some dirty room service plates for over a day.

Breakfast was poor quality. Only two choices of cereal. Coffee was cold, no yoghurts, fresh front had been cut up, very small selection of a couple of meats and cheeses were left out, not on a chiller. Cooked breakfast not the best.

Monday to Friday, disappointingly the menu in the restaurant is the same as the bar, again very poor selection. The quality of the evening meal was very poor. Waited 35 mins from ordering for our food. No complimentary bread or water. When it came, we’ve had better fish and chips from a pub. As for the chicken dish, the chicken was really dry, bland dry veg and dry fondant potato. Very poor and not at all good value.

The spa and pool were disappointingly small, so much so we were put off using it but the treatments we had were good.

The staff generally were good and friendly but there was a distinct lack of them.

The saving grace was a taxi ride to Piccolino Italian restaurant in Collingham which we wouldn’t return highly recommend and the 2 mile walk to The Windmill Inn, where we ate at both which were better quality the the hotel.

For the price point and advertised standard, we wouldn’t return nor recommend this hotel.

Pros:

We have stayed before so we already knew it was a lovely place to stay. We just took a standard room. But it was spacious & well furnished. The bed was very comfortable. Beautiful views & surrounded by gorgeous grounds.

Cons:

I thought the evening menu was a bit limited, more like a bar menu. I thought there might have been a set 3 course menu or similar.
