Dated and in need of refurbishment
Pros:

The hotel is in a great location - really perfect for sightseeing, restaurants, bars - and the surrounding neighbourhood is lovely. Perfect. But the hotel decor is dated, shabby and uncared for. The light switches in my room were smashed off the wall, the bedside lamp didn’t work, the metal finishes in the room and bathroom were all tarnished and old, the bed head had been removed. The room was dark - all decorated in grey and black - and even the mirror in the room had a smoke finish. It felt grubby because of all of this wear and tear but I will concede that it was not dirty. The towels and bedding were very clean and the a/c was cold. The bathroom was fully glazed to the bedroom - so you can see in to the bathroom fully from the bed. I had a weird chandelier in my room which was even more confusing. The common areas are shabby and the furniture is odd. I’m sure it all looked ok at some point but it needs investment now. The breakfast was terrible. The patisseries were awful - glazed croissants which were dry, sugar filled granola, sugar filled juice and yogurts. The coffee was ok - bean to cup machine but with dried milk. I come to Paris once a week and had to stay here due to last minute changes, but I am not likely to stay again until something has been done about the state of the place.

Best location for us in Paris
Pros:

This was probably the third or fourth time I have stayed at Hotel Lumen. It is in the perfect location -- just meters away from the Tuileries and the Louvre. Around the corner heading toward the old Opera is a Monoprix which is very convenient. Many good cafes and restaurants. A great location. The most important asset of the property, though, is the staff. All are personable, helpful, and just a pleasure to know. Rooms are small but bathrooms are spacious and well appointed. Some of the best hotel towels! Very clean.

Superb location
Pros:

We stayed 6 nights and absolutely the best thing about the hotel is the location. Otherwise it’s perfectly OK but there’s nothing that would particularly encourage us to return.

Our De Luxe corner room on the first floor was small but adequate, with a comfortable big bed, coffee machine, kettle, free water, good lighting/sockets, though the mirrored wardrobe doors were irritatingly tinted. Storage was limited, though removing the ironing board from the wardrobe helped. The décor was dark and gloomy, but three big French windows, opening onto balustrades, helped. Aircon worked OK and the TV was good, with Netflix, CNN and Sky News. Wifi was OK too, but not brilliant. Despite being on the first floor and overlooking the street, the room was quiet and we didn’t notice noise from other rooms. Cleaning was good.

The bathroom was small and cramped and, while the shower worked well, standing in the narrow, slippery bath felt precarious (no grab handles) and the tiny shower screen failed to prevent water spraying the floor. The ceiling lighting over the mirror left faces in shadow. Black face cloths, marked ‘Makeup’ were a nice touch.

The breakfast room, with big windows onto the street, was light and airy and never busy during our stay. Breakfast itself was OK, though nothing special and items did run out and were not replaced (e.g. fruit salad), so best to arrive early. Plates were not always cleared and sometimes we had to do it ourselves.

Front desk staff were lovely, breakfast staff polite but distant.
