A useful hotel within walking distance of Agra Cannt station. As will all Indian hotels it was a little noisy, but that said they were friendly and it worked for what I needed. Staff were helpful and friendly.
We were stuck in Agra without a room and all hotels seemed full. We were happy to find this place. It was quite empty because the location is a bit further from the Taj but it was good.
Breakfast is too simple. and shower water is cold and need to wait about 20 minutes to become warm -- Just as staff said when I checked in.
The good thing about the hotel is that it is near the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort. The condition of the hotel is a bit on the older side but the rooms themselves are excellent and well kept.
as many other visitors to the city of agra, i was in it to visit and be a part of the taj mahal experience. i did just that and the hotel, tho not exactly close to the taj, it wasn't too far in that a stroll couldn't get me there on time. the walk i took in the town exposed me a bit more to what the city is all about. businesses, culture and even brought me a bit closer to experiencing the local vibe. something i absolutely appreciated.
MY EXPERIENCE OF THE GRAND HOTEL:
This seventy room hotel is situated about five kilometers from the Taj Mahal and the Red Fort in the very well maintained Army Cantonment area of Agra. The area is clean, safe and peaceful and a ten minute walk to the bazaar. The hotel is over priced.
The rooms are very large and have a queen size or two twin beds, TV, fridge/bar and in-room heater. Hot water from the central boiler flows freely after the tap is opened for a few minutes. The washroom/toilette is also quite large and well laid-out. The rooms to the left of the reception area seem to be better than the more exposed single line of rooms on the right side of the reception. The lawns are well maintained.
The Restaurant food was over-priced and had lots of MSG and commercial tomato sauce. I recommend eating elsewhere though it was difficult to find hygienic alternatives in the vicinity.
Service was VERY poor. I asked for a 6.30 am wake-up call which never happened. I asked that my room NOT be cleaned as I did not want anyone entering my room but when I came back from sight seeing my room had been cleaned and the key had been left in the lock so anyone could have stolen my stuff! This is simply unacceptable.
The extra charge for internet access is simply absurd as similar hotels in India and even student hostels in other parts of the world provide free internet access.
The travel desk run by Nikhil Tours was helpful. . But DO bargain prize down at least one quarter
WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THE GRAND HOTEL:
The location, large rooms and cleanliness. The owners lived on the same property but I had no time to meet and discuss my concerns.
The Travel Desk.
IMPROVEMENTS:
Staff must be better trained. The owners should personally address guest concerns. No MSG or commercial tomato sauce should be used in the food.
THINGS TO DO:
Taj Mahal, Red Fort, Deyal Bagh, Sikandara.
Hotel room, comforts, facilities are all very good except for the cold and rude behaviour of the staff including the reception, manager... location of the hotel is good, away from noise pollution at a cool silent place...
In a good location for Agra Cantt station, felt secure and safe. The room amenities weren't as booked but we were re roomed to something else that was suitable. Restaurant average and breakfast ok but lots of school kids around so staff were a bit rushed. Hotel ordered us a driver who was very good and knowledgeable. Cheap and clean but average.
Rooms are fine but included breakfast is horrible Same menu everyday with amaturish cooking & clumsy service
nothing to think about this hotel there
Feel very much satisfied.
i was expecting a far better ambience..as shown in the hotel pictures.somehow not a bad choice for bugjetry class..overall satisfactory..staff ppl are painstaking...restuarant not so gud..but not even bad..cleanliness... just ok..facilities..gud enuf.. over all between a 2-3 star rating..
It took too long to get warm (not even hot) water in the room.
First, the hotel is not three star as advertised. There is no lift, no central heating which are preconditions of a three star hotel. In my view the hotel should not give misleading star status to attract tourists.I am very, very disappointed
The checking staff were rude and kept us waiting. Linen was not clean and resh and rooms required much upkeep.
The Grand Hotel is a reasonably good hotel in Agra, although it has probably seen better days. Rooms were of a good size. Staff are fairly helpful, although they did misplace my room key for a while! I have to say that the hotel is pretty quiet and where I was I didn't have any of the usual road noise/sound of horns etc, so certainly that was a positive. Breakfast is standard Indian.
my experience of the hotel was mixed. the room was comfortable & clean .the a/c worked ok , but the bathroom was not upto mark. there was no bar in the restaurant & what they served was only beer. the dinner buffet was pathetic to say the least, however the buffet breakfast was ok. the check-in & check-out was without hassles.
Food is not up to the mark. buffet is very poor. very slow service. ground floor water logging in case of rain. Very poor mobile signals.
The hotel was not what was listed while booking. We were mentioned furnished balcony with garden view but we were given room without any balcony and window facing a kitchen. No LCD TV as promised but an old TV. Soap pathetic. Overall absolutely disaster stay and will never recommend this hotel to anyone. I had paid high charges hoping good stay but now we need at least part refund as we were not given what all were promised.
Not the greatest place in the world... rooms were clean aside from the quantity of dead mosquitos in the bathroom. Proximity to the road makes it a bit noisy. Very convenient for us who had a 6am train from Agra Cantt station, but otherwise is pretty far from the main Agra attractions. And still >$60/night! For $70/night we stayed the first night in Agra right near the East gate at a trendy new hotel with a great rooftop view.
The restaurant leaves quite some to be desired as well. Food is actually very good (Tandoori here produced our 1st healthy butter/oil free meal in India), but prices here are 30-40% higher than other hotels/restaurants. As a reference, water sells for 60rps here vs. 20 at other joints. Nevertheless, good if you have an early morning train (not may tuk-tuks at that hour) since can walk to AGC in 10mins.
