Overall, this place was fine but I think its a stretch to call it 4 stars. Location was good but room was quite dated. TV did not really work.
Just old and worn out. Old kitchen, old couch, etc. Felt I overpaid. St. Gregory was better for similar price.
Great for families , convenient location
We enjoyed this hotel. Great location within walking distance of GWU, Metro, Georgetown main drag, etc. The location is mostly quiet (if your room faces the back there is early trash pickup on some days). The staff were all helpful and efficient. The first floor restaurant was fine. As others have mentioned there is a Whole Foods AND a Trader Joes nearby to stock your kitchenette. We did also walk to the Lincoln Memorial area (about 30 minutes) and Dumbarton Oaks (25 minutes downhill).
Easy to catch an uber if desired
We did experience two issues during are stay but they were promptly addressed.
Excellent location. Superb hospitality, and service, friendly and accommodating.
Good location in cute area. Short walk from Foggy Bottom metro station. Large room with kitchen facilities. Check in was quick and efficient. Manager was lovely and very accommodating.
Well, the weather in DC is very changeable. I arrived during a mini heat wave. It seems that the hotel only has AC during certain periods of the year, and late March is too early for AC at the River Inn (despite the high temps). The room was 84 degrees. The window screens had holes in them and when I opened the windows, it created a wind vortex...seems the mini heat wave also caused a mini tornado in my room. The Inn is also located very close to DCA, where flights arrived after midnight and started up again at 5 AM. The street noise was very loud (close to campus and there were lots of excited people shouting). I was given a pet room and it smelled very strongly of urine. Surfaces were sticky and smudged. I would imagine this is a popular spot for traveling groups or large families. After a very long trip, I was exhausted and would have left that night but by the time I understood how awful it was, it was too late to venture out on my own, in the rain with my dog. I had booked for two nights, but notified them I would be checking out in the morning. The manager was very understanding and actually did not charge me (which I did not request) for the night. I think if the AC had worked (or the room screens did not have holes in them) it would have been passable; as it was, I did not sleep, which is the most important aspect of a hotel.
Staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Surprisingly, such a small property has a doorman/bellman/valet. Convenient to have a kitchen. Lots of space. Older building, but they’ve done everything they can to make it feel more modern and comfortable. Displayed fresh flowers in lobby area. Food at restaurant was good.
The building was transitioning from heat to air conditioning, so in a “neutral” phase as they called it. What it meant was that there was no a/c (for several days) even though it was quite warm during the days. They provided a fan and suggested opening the windows for the cool night air. Our room overlooked a parking lot in the rear, so it was noisy with the windows open. We survived, but it would have been much more comfortable if we could have just turned on the a/c.
Great staff, great location, huge rooms. The neighborhood is so cute and quiet. Close to foggy bottom Metro and two grocery stores which is nice since rooms have kitchens
Super friendly helpful staff. Great location .
The shower water pressure was not adjustable.
The staff are very helpful and friendly. We arrived around 8 am from our red eye flight and we were just going to drop off our luggages since we were very early. The receptionist told us that there was an available room and she let us checked in early without extra cost. We were very grateful and were able to nap for a few hours before spending the rest of the day visiting DC. The room is a little old but it comes with a tiny kitchen and the bed is fairly comfortable.
The only thing I could think of was that there was no ramp for handicap in front of the building, but overall, I would definitively book there again. Love the location, close to Foggy Bottom metro station and Georgetown. Very convenient location.
The hotel is in a nice location close to everything and very quaint neighborhood: FoggyBottom. The staff are beyond nice and friendly. The restaurant food is delicious. The room is very spacious with a full kitchen and small living area.
The bed pillows were a bit too firm and bulky for my liking and the bed linens felt a little rough rather than soft. Otherwise, a great stay!
Lovely room located centrally to GWU’s campus. The full kitchen is a wonderful bonus! Also located 5 minutes from Whole Foods.
