Hotel Bosque del Mar, Playa Hermosa

We stayed in family ocean suite which was beautiful! Nice to wake up to the birds and ocean sounds. Included breakfast was delicious. Thank you to Alexis who served us with a smile each morning! Also Carlos, Shirley and Alberto!
The kids loved seeing the monkeys come visit the mango tree each morning on site too!

Wow! What a beautiful place! We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our visit at Bosque Del Mar Hotel. The front desk staff were extremely friendly and helpful, helping us with entertainment, laundry, and more.
The breakfast staff (Alexis, Shirley, Carlos, and Alberto) at the beautiful open air restaurant overlooking the beach were attentive and friendly. We became fast friends and we will miss them and their hospitality when we check out of this amazing hotel. We cannot recommend this place enough!

Great hotel and staff! They helped arrange an amazing fishing adventure on short notice then the chef at the restaurant cooked a wonderful meal with our catch. Truly an unforgettable experience. Enjoy the beach front property and watch the howler monkeys swing above you while you lounge at the pool.

I cannot rave enough about this hotel! The location is stunning - truly letting nature shine while feeling incredibly lush. The beach is gorgeous and steps from the rooms. We heard howler monkeys every morning and saw tons of birds, lizards, coatis and butterflies. The room was super well appointed and comfortable with a nice patio for morning coffee. What truly sets this place apart though is the STAFF. So many went above and beyond providing excellent service while also getting to know us on a personal level. They were so friendly and kind - the staff alone is worth returning for. I want to give a special shout out to Jonathan, Clarence, Yorsi and Shirley who really made our time so memorable! We found all the food at the hotel to be very good and happy hour is an awesome deal! This hotel is perfect for nature lovers who appreciate a quiet, upscale setting with phenomenal service!

It was a lovely property right on the beach. The staff was amazing. It came with a free breakfast, which was huge and delicious. They helped book trips. We also bought massages which were out of this world and an amazing price would highly recommend this place.

This is an outstanding hotel perfect for a wonderful vacation. First of all, it is right on the beach and the beach is beautiful - clean, soft sand, calm warm waters - super clean and you can see small fish. Hotel staff rakes sand every morning and sets up lounge chairs. There is enough shade under the trees. The beach is about a mile long and it is great for walks. The staff is super friendly - eager to help if needed, always with a smile. The room and facility are very well maintained and sparkling clean. The property is relatively small but it has a very appealing landscape and charming architecture The restaurant is superb, everything was absolutely deliciious including tasty breakfast. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus are extensive and you can try new dishes every day. Restaurant staff is ready to make recommendations. The most difficult part of our vacation was the moment we had to leave ... I wished we could stay for another week. Bosque del Mar is a paradise and its staff deserves an award.

Hidden gem is an understatement.
We stayed in 5 different hotels during our time in CR and as far as comfort, service, amenities, beach access, parking, location, food, pool, room size, cleanliness and wild life ... omg nothing comes close.
We stayed in a $800/night hotel in Monteverde and Hotel Bosque Del Mar smoked it on every aspect.
We don't want to leave! I don't even know what to say, it's basically perfect. And for the price???? It's just an amazing value.
The "popular" beach, playa del coco is right down the road but honestly it's a trashy clap trap. Playa Hermosa is quiet and gorgeous. Gentle waves, perfect sunsets ... We've been here a week and it's been so relaxing after a week in the jungle.
If we return to CR we'll be going straight here.
In the last 3 years we've been to 19 different countries and stayed in probably 40+ hotels. This one is a standout. For us it's up there in quality with Hotel Reisen in Stockholm, Grand Hansa in Helsinki, The White Swan in Stratford-upon-Avon and Dame des Arts (our fav hotel) in Paris.
I mean it, this place is exceptional.
Any bad reviews have to be insane people or just idiots who've never traveled outside the states.
Book it, you will not regret it.

The staff are warm and kind. Housekeepers stop to explain wildlife to guests. There are iguanas and monkeys all over the place. A big howler monkey family! They love it too!

I work in the travel industry here in Costa Rica and have stayed here a few times, the most recent experience was with my parents (mid 70's) during the Festive Holiday Season and it was such a great option for us. The breakfast is one of my favorites in Costa Rica and the staff is what really sets this hotel apart from others. BIG shout outs to Jonathan, Frank, Serrano, Carlos, Kiara, Alexis and everyone else. The Christmas Dinner was absolutely delicious and they were very accommodating to my Celiac allergy and my dad's limited mobility. You won't be disappointed with your stay here!!

Everything at this hotel was just lovely! The view from the restaurant out to the beach was picturesque, our garden view room was perfect, and the staff were exceptional. An oasis in the drier region of Costa Rica.

Everything was wonderful from the moment we arrived. The staff is so attentive. The grounds are beautiful. Alexi, Shirley, Hano and Dayan at the restaurant were wonderful, always providing cold water and ice for our water bottles and ice buckets.

The Hoel Bosque Del Mar was exactly what we were looking for. On the beach, clean, convenient and beautiful.

Our room was clean and comfortable. The food was excellent. The service staff were professional and friendly.

The location is perfect for a trip to this part of Costa Rica.

Truly a quality boutique resort. While we are not knowledgeable about the area, walking along the beach we were impressed that the grounds of seemed to be exceptional, which added to our experience. The staff was always welcoming, Josué, our server at the restaurant, was very pleasant and made every effort to ensure our satisfaction (a little shoutout to a new staff member who really did do an excellent job and deserves the compliment.)

Wonderful service in an enchanting setting

The Bosque is a beautiful boutique resort with full restaurant, bar, pool, and beautiful Playa Hermosa beach. It’s a great walking beach and has a flat, sandy entry with just baby waves to add a nice sound. Our room had a lovely patio facing the beach. The food was excellent with a great mix of options including salads, seafood, and pasta. The staff were excellent--especially the restaurant and bar staff and the hard-working grounds crew!

The location is beautiful and tropical. Our room was the perfect spot for us, it was always kept clean and fresh towels & water everyday. The best noise we heard was the howler monkey's everyday. Service was excellent, Yorsi and Yelzin in the second level bar took very good care of us every evening, Jose' Lopez the manager on that level makes sure things are run well. Alex from the main floor restaurant also took very good care of our morning breakfast. We look forward to going back next year!!

Lovely visit, we stayed 3 nights, breakfast was included. Our suite with ceiling to floor windows looked out to a jungle atmosphere and birds The rooms were clean, up to date and worked well. The employees there were kind and generous with their time. In particular Shirley Sofia, one of the dining room servers was fun to chat with, providing excellent service. I highly recommend staying here.

Do not stay here. We spent 20 minutes killing mosquitos in our room because the door did not seal shut, and there are tons of mosquitos around the property. The pool is not regularly cleaned, the food is not very fresh, and management does not care about the well being of their guests. I would not call this a luxury hotel.
Stay at El Mangroove instead - much nicer in every way - wonderful pools and beach, and no mosquitos.

This is a lush jungle-like resort where our upper suite felt like being in a treehouse. It is right on the beach and has a nice restaurant and upstairs bar/cafe, both open-air, spacious and overlooking the beach. This is a more arid, remote area with limited nearby attractions, so most of our time (3 full days) was spent at the hotel. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with a separate sitting area and private balcony.
Hotel entrance is non-descript and simple, especially at night, which had us questioning if we had entered the wrong spot (we had not). Parking is available directly across the small road. Check-in was quick and easy.
Restaurant area is large and comfortable with interior and exterior seating areas. The food quality was very good, with several choices available.
Dinner in the main restaurant is slightly more formal, while cafe/bar is very casual. You can also order off the downstairs restaurant dinner menu while seated upstairs.
Hotel did not rate a 5 because we were disappointed with some of the restaurant/reception staff. The restaurant was never busy yet some of the staff were not engaged, making little effort to be attentive or helpful, which should be a requirement in a hotel/resort at this level. Some were very service oriented and friendly, but there were a few who came across as inconvenienced when approached (on multiple occasions). If the hotel would like specific examples I would be happy to pass along in a private message.
I’d also suggest upgrading TV options/compatibility to better fit the caliber of this property.
Again, our experience with this hotel/resort is a solid 4. It is a unique oasis in this part of the country.

We had a wonderful time. Maybe a little too quiet for a family with young children, but the experience was great. Alexis and his crew that served us in the restaurant were great. Very friendly and attentive.

Staying nearby but this restaurant had fantastic food, good value (much better than where we are staying), great and fast service.
And great view of the sea.
Recommend even if you’re not staying at the hotel.
