Hotel Bosque del Mar, Playa Hermosa

The Bosque is a beautiful boutique resort with full restaurant, bar, pool, and beautiful Playa Hermosa beach. It’s a great walking beach and has a flat, sandy entry with just baby waves to add a nice sound. Our room had a lovely patio facing the beach. The food was excellent with a great mix of options including salads, seafood, and pasta. The staff were excellent--especially the restaurant and bar staff and the hard-working grounds crew!

The location is beautiful and tropical. Our room was the perfect spot for us, it was always kept clean and fresh towels & water everyday. The best noise we heard was the howler monkey's everyday. Service was excellent, Yorsi and Yelzin in the second level bar took very good care of us every evening, Jose' Lopez the manager on that level makes sure things are run well. Alex from the main floor restaurant also took very good care of our morning breakfast. We look forward to going back next year!!

Lovely visit, we stayed 3 nights, breakfast was included. Our suite with ceiling to floor windows looked out to a jungle atmosphere and birds The rooms were clean, up to date and worked well. The employees there were kind and generous with their time. In particular Shirley Sofia, one of the dining room servers was fun to chat with, providing excellent service. I highly recommend staying here.

Do not stay here. We spent 20 minutes killing mosquitos in our room because the door did not seal shut, and there are tons of mosquitos around the property. The pool is not regularly cleaned, the food is not very fresh, and management does not care about the well being of their guests. I would not call this a luxury hotel.
Stay at El Mangroove instead - much nicer in every way - wonderful pools and beach, and no mosquitos.

This is a lush jungle-like resort where our upper suite felt like being in a treehouse. It is right on the beach and has a nice restaurant and upstairs bar/cafe, both open-air, spacious and overlooking the beach. This is a more arid, remote area with limited nearby attractions, so most of our time (3 full days) was spent at the hotel. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with a separate sitting area and private balcony.
Hotel entrance is non-descript and simple, especially at night, which had us questioning if we had entered the wrong spot (we had not). Parking is available directly across the small road. Check-in was quick and easy.
Restaurant area is large and comfortable with interior and exterior seating areas. The food quality was very good, with several choices available.
Dinner in the main restaurant is slightly more formal, while cafe/bar is very casual. You can also order off the downstairs restaurant dinner menu while seated upstairs.
Hotel did not rate a 5 because we were disappointed with some of the restaurant/reception staff. The restaurant was never busy yet some of the staff were not engaged, making little effort to be attentive or helpful, which should be a requirement in a hotel/resort at this level. Some were very service oriented and friendly, but there were a few who came across as inconvenienced when approached (on multiple occasions). If the hotel would like specific examples I would be happy to pass along in a private message.
I’d also suggest upgrading TV options/compatibility to better fit the caliber of this property.
Again, our experience with this hotel/resort is a solid 4. It is a unique oasis in this part of the country.

We had a wonderful time. Maybe a little too quiet for a family with young children, but the experience was great. Alexis and his crew that served us in the restaurant were great. Very friendly and attentive.

We came just for the restaurant.
Staying nearby but this restaurant had fantastic food, good value (much better than where we are staying), great and fast service.
And great view of the sea.
Recommend even if you’re not staying at the hotel.

I would give this hotel 6 stars if I could! I cannot describe how lovely the rooms and grounds are, and how helpful and friendly the staff are. The hotel is right on the beach but feels very secluded in the grounds and is beautifully designed.

The restaurant was excellent, with the staff being very attentive and the food delicious and fresh. Would highly recommend the creole seafood medley, the niromi tuna and the mahi mahi.

The wildlife in the grounds was a highlight, we saw iguanas and howler monkeys from our balcony and the pool which was amazing.

Unfortunately during our stay a member of our party became injured and needed immediate medical help. The staff were extremely helpful, calling an ambulance, liaising with the medical staff, supporting the injured person into the ambulance and then kindly collecting them from the medical centre with a hotel vehicle free of charge. We would like to particularly thank the operations manager at the hotel for her support.

I am a manual wheelchair user, with a power assist. I am able to stand and pivot. When we reached the hotel and saw our room, I noticed that there was no grab bar around our toilet. That would mean I would have to use the bathroom in the lobby. We let the manager know and within 30 minutes a grab bar was installed by the toilet. The staff are amazing. The food was amazing. They have a boardwalk to the Ocean as well as chair to get into the ocean. Unfortunately the sea was rough the day I was going to use the chair so I don't have any pictures of that. This little boutique hotel was absolutely fantastic and we would come back again and again.

Hotel Bosque del Mar was a wonderful find on the pacific coast of Costa Rica, nestled in a rich forest of old trees, many of which were covered in vines and palms. It was great habitat for many bird species, and a troop of howler monkeys came through one afternoon.

Every one of the staff with whom we interacted was friendly and professional. Alexis in the main restaurant is a real gem. He interacted with us in English, but was very patient in allowing me to practice Spanish. We looked forward to seeing him at every breakfast — he was a high point in our visit.

The room was very comfortable, with a gorgeous view into a forest of green, and lacked for nothing. The little sitting area is very nice, as is the small deck, which was a great spot for morning coffee and listening to the bird choir grow in volume.

The pool is an oasis amidst the forest, but it’s only a short walk to Playa Hermosa. We’ve been to many beaches in Costa Rica, and this one quickly became our favourite. It’s a long clean beach w light sand, and a sandy bottom well out into the water.

We would come back to this area again, and would do so just to revisit Hotel Bosque del Mar.

We had a glorious week of serenity, beauty and warmth at Hotel Bosque del Mar in mid January 2026. Special shout outs to Alexis, Carlos and Shirley on the wait staff at the restaurant, and Shay at reception! One hiccup was that the main elevator was broken but we got exercise going up 3 flights of stairs. And one morning, the coffee had a strong taste of chlorine as they were cleaning the water line. Otherwise, perfection!

Trip was amazing and staff was super amazing. Alexis was nice and professional. Made us feel like family. We will be going back.

I felt very happy at the hotel, especially with the reception staff, Davies and Johan. They are very kind people, as is all the hotel staff in general. Don't hesitate to come; I assure you that you will feel very welcome like state at home. 😊

This is our second time dying at Hotel Bosque Del Mar. it is paradise. Situated right on a beautiful beach it is quaint and yet elegant. The food is fabulous. I enjoyed my wine selections as well. The beds were firm and every thing was so clean. They provided filtered water and the service was exceptional.
We highly recommend!

We stayed here for 3 nights.
A lovely location with access to the beach. Lounge chairs are allowed on this beach and the staff provide drink and food service.
We stayed in Room 706 on the lower level. We did have a few problems with our room but the staff took care of it. There are however, no USB outlets in the room and the light switches are ackward.
We ate breafast and dinner everyday in the restaurant. The food was good. You have access to both menus; bar and dining room.
The service is what stood out; our waiters and front desk staff, cleaners, etc. were outstanding. We would like to recognize; Carlos, Fabio, Kiano, Jonathan, Shirley, Alexis, Jean Carlos, Stefany. We unfortunately did not get the names of the cleaning staff but they were also great. All happy, helpful and provided great service.
The pool is lovely as well. It is a beautfiul location.

The property is absolutely beautiful tucked away under the jungle along Playa Hermossa . We had an amazing time. The room was the spacious penthouse that had two baths and bedrooms. We were so impressed with the upgrades that were made after the storms and the artistry of the workmanship. We feel it was a great value for what we got !

Every morning was such a treat with the service provided by Alexis, Shirley, Carlos, Serrano and Sofia was superior. Patience with a large group of 13 people and 5 kids. They made two birthdays so special and warm. Highly recommend the hotel, restaurant and especially the staff who went above and beyond to provide a spectacular experience.

Food was fabulous. Service is always great. The manager takes the time to stop and talk with everyone. Christmas they had live music.

Sadly we’re leaving today… the staff provided excellent service in every area from check in to now our departure. We enjoyed the restaurant experience with many options available every day, the freshest fruits and amazing grilled fish dishes. We’ll be back next Christmas!
