Lovely hotel, but set quite a way out of town. Gives seclusion, but bit of a walk/cheap taxi to town. Quite a big hotel, but cute bungalows all with their own space. Huge room and a Flintstones style bathroom, which looked great, but was rustic in operation 😀. Hilly stroll down to the restaurant or reception, but golf buggies available. Great breakfast and a tasty dinner - could do with more loungers around the pool, but would stay again. We stayed 3 nights and La Fortuna is an awesome little town with loads to do - Sloth Park recommended as well as the Canyoning and white water rafting!
Excellent all round! Rooms and grounds beautiful and teeming with wildlife - check out the frog ponds at night. Staff very helpful and friendly. Restaurant food delicious and service excellent there too. The night hike was brilliant - around the Arenal Eco Oasis, so in aid of a great cause too.
This hotel is a gem!
Perfectly quiet, great location/views and beautiful grounds.
Our villa was fantastic and some of our best nature spottings were at the hotel (Great Currasow, sloths, toucans).
For the price, this is arguably the best in la Fortuna, personally the larger hot spring resorts are just way too busy, so its better to visit them and then come back to a private slice of heaven.
Disappointing Service and Unfulfilled Promises Regarding Connectivity Issues
While Mountain Paradise Hotel offers a beautiful location and decent accommodations, our stay from December 25th to 27th, 2025, was marred by significant service failures and unkept management promises.
Persistent Connectivity Issues: We were originally placed in Room 317, where the Wi-Fi was non-functional. We were moved to Room 319 under the assurance that the internet worked there; however, it was equally non-existent. In an area with zero cellular network, Wi-Fi was essential for us to plan our daily travel and, more importantly, to check in on our one-year-old son at home.
Contradictory Management Resolutions: A supervisor (Daniel) acknowledged the localized technical issue and initially offered a full refund or complimentary amenities. Since I am pregnant, the amenities were not a suitable alternative. Daniel promised to email the refund details that night but failed to do so. The following morning, he retracted the initial offer, stating a refund was only possible if we vacated the room immediately—an unreasonable demand during peak season.
Unresolved Refund Agreement: Upon checkout, we negotiated with the General Manager. While we understood a full refund was no longer on the table since we stayed, we mutually agreed upon a 50% refund.
Lack of Accountability: Despite this verbal agreement, the hotel has since refused to honor the refund through our booking channels (Capital One Travel/Expedia).
Conclusion: The property itself is lovely, but the management's practice of making false promises to guests in person and then ignoring them after checkout is highly unprofessional. We would have preferred honesty from the start rather than being misled throughout our stay.
The view was gorgeous! This was our favorite place we stayed at in Costa Rica! We loved waking up to see the volcano, the cacao plants, hummingbirds and other animals about the island! All beautiful. The food was good, and I loved the buffet breakfast. Restaurant was expensive!
Our stay at Paradise Mountain Resort in La Fortuna was awful. Rooms were broken, outdated, and unsafe no phone, only one key, shower and hot tub not working, bathroom door stuck, and no internet. Staff were dismissive, and this ruined our family trip.
The people are the most wonderful part of this place, as with many others in Costa Rica. Antonio in the restaurant was wonderful, he explained everything beautifully with humorous anecdotes. Eric at the front desk was very patient. And I forgot several others - I received multiple lessons in Costa Rican culture, Spanish language, even some history.
I communicated with the front desk mainly by WhatsApp, they responded in 1-2 minutes. When a toilet didn't work, they were there and fixed it in about 10-15. Again, very helpful and thoughtful.
The biggest problem: the metal/wood villa roofs don't protect from sound, and we were next to a tree - as are most others. So about every hour or two each night, we heard a loud "bang". Rain was also loud on the roof, some might like that and others won't. There were also bugs in the room, very but enough to be annoying, though everything was very clean, no bedbugs or bites of any kind. And the rooms are enormous, with working A/C and wifi.
They arranged some terrific excursions, including a spectacular trip to Arenal waterfall, at prices similar to the one or two which we pre-arranged, and were extraordinarily patient with lots of questions from some family members. So you can arrive and set up your sightseeing there, no need to stress if you didn't do any advance preparation.
And there is so much to see do close by! (Though not in walking distance) When the clouds cleared, Arenal volcano was big and vivid, right there! On site we saw wild turkeys, hummingbirds, and even a sloth, right on the Mountain Paradise property! We have their staff to thank for that last one, one of them came running over as we were going to breakfast and led us to him, hanging there in the tree munching on leaves and watching us - slothfully, of course.
In all a really wonderful stay. Thank you all so much!
This was a horrible experience and I do not recommend this hotel. We booked a bungalow for five people and were instead placed in two separate rooms far in the back of the property, requiring a long uphill walk in a completely dark area that felt unsafe. All night there was constant loud banging and tapping on the roof that made it impossible to sleep. After complaining we were moved the next day, but the new room had major issues — one bathroom had only scalding hot water with no cold water at all, the jacuzzi and hair dryers didn’t work, there were roaches in the bathroom, and the Wi-Fi was essentially nonexistent despite being advertised as free. On top of that, the front desk staff was cold and dismissive, and they refused to properly honor a $273 credit, saying it could only be used on the property. The rooms are dated, poorly maintained, and the service is unacceptable. Do not stay here.
Waste of money.
Overall we loved our stayed at this hotel, the quality of sleep was amazing, the view from the room was impresive and the staff was great, with great disposition, positiveattitude and very helpful. We will definitely recomend this hotel.
The bathroom large, the tub filled quickly. Water pressure was good. Hot water was hot and available. Shower gel and soap provided smelled amazing. Don’t love that you can’t park next to the casita, but also that did make for nice walking grounds in the morning. Lots of beautiful trees and flowers. WiFi was not great. Kitchen was nice to have, but nothing to make food hot so??? More like a wet bar. GREAT view of the volcano, close to the local free hot springs entrance, didn’t visit the pool but looked nice and was steaming at night. Breakfast was perfect, beautiful place to start the day. Super quiet at night, the bed was incredible, comfortable and king size which is hard to find. Gets pretty slippery on the patio in the rain. We brought our pup and she approved also. Nice place overall, romantic.
Amazing hotel! Beautiful grounds, great volcano views and large spacious rooms. Breakfast was delicious and all hotel staff was friendly and helpful.
Spacious villas, good food, beautiful views, fun pool for the kids. Easy drive to hot springs, Arenal, and everything in La Fortuna.
Friendly staff incredible landscape
Wonderful free breakfast
This property was wonderful and the staff was nice and helpful. I really enjoyed my stay.
This was a beautiful property and the suite we stayed in was huge!! We loved the view of the volcano and the pool being right next to the bar. The drinks and food at the bar and at the restaurant were pricy, but the overall property was great.
The staff was courteous and helpful, the breakfast and pool was great, the rooms were nice. The only suggestion I have is to maybe add seating to the rooms. I am an early riser, and it would have been nice to have a place to sit and read or drink coffee waiting for the rest of the group to get up!
The property was very clean and the staff was always super courteous and helpful. We enjoyed our stay and would come back.
The property is beautiful and you feel like you’re in a lush rainforest. The staff was so friendly and accommodating. We ate breakfast at the restaurant each morning and it was very nice - local dishes, fresh fruit and an omelette station.
The hotel is located near hot springs, shopping and restaurants, but also sets out far enough that it is quiet and peaceful.
We had 2 adults and 2 teenage boys in our group. We all agree that this was a great stay and we will definitely return.
Was a fantastic experience
Unbelievable views. Surrounded by nature. Plenty of activities around the area. La fortuna town just minutes away with plenty options for shopping and dining
