Booked an executive room and was asked for a deposit in the case of breakages. Is this common at the hotel ?

Was ideal place to stay visiting family living nearby for Mother's Day!
Pros:

Breakfast was good but not very warm! Location was ideal to meet family nearby!

Cons:

Choice of shower didn't like over bath type!

So disappointed and the overall experience has not been satisfactory
Pros:

Location was right at centre of the town close to pubs, restaurants and bus and train travel

Cons:

I didn't like that I couldn't pay by cash it had to be credit/debit card only, then went managed to get family pay it online for me I thought that was all sorted, but then when tried to check in finally, was then told I also need a deposit, so ring family again and luckily they said was going to pay online again, but then was told that not only was a deposit to be paid but the actual bank card was needed.
Then finally the beds were so uncomfortable that I had worse nights sleep

friendly and knowledgeable staff
Pros:

We are repeat guests, we've always been made to feel welcome, and are remembered by the members of staff. The hotel is well placed very close to the train station, and reasonably priced, the members of staff know the area well and are very good at advising you on where to go and how to get there. it ticked all the boxes we need. Thank you and see you again soon

Good location, free parking , but wouldn’t stay again . Chef couldn’t even serve boiled eggs properly (he shelled them )
