It’s genuinely difficult to overstate just how poor this so-called “leisure club hotel” is. I actually feel sorry for the staff who must, I imagine, spend much of their time defending their workplace from disappointed guests. To be clear, the staff themselves are courteous and appear to be doing the best they can in very unfortunate circumstances. The problem is the hotel itself. It feels as though the owners have simply given up.
Let’s start with the “leisure club” - or “spa”, depending on where you read about it. In reality, it’s neither. The “swimming pool” is essentially an oversized bath. The hygiene was shocking. Anyone even considering getting in should first take a look at the pool lights - they make it very clear what’s floating around in the water. Filthy barely covers it. The pool was full of dust (which is to say, skin), hairs, and various floating debris. It honestly resembled soup.
There used to be a jacuzzi in the corner, but this has now been covered over. Around 90% of the lockers in the men’s changing room are broken. The sauna door is hanging off its hinges and scrapes along the floor when you try to open it. There’s also a gap at the top where much of the heat escapes. The whole area has an odd stale smell hanging in the air, and the sauna itself is filthy - layers of dust sitting in every groove of the wooden panelling.
Calling this a “spa” is simply misleading. It either needs a full refurbishment or closing altogether, and the hotel should drop any pretence of being a spa hotel (as still advertised on Wowcher - though interestingly this claim seems to have disappeared from most of their other advertising. One wonders why).
If you’re coming here expecting decent leisure facilities, you’re going to be very disappointed.
The restaurant was no better. They charge £29 for a steak, which would be fine if the quality justified it. Unfortunately, the one I received was essentially inedible. The mash was lukewarm, the béarnaise sauce arrived stone cold, and the side salad was frankly unpleasant — including mushy cucumber that was clearly past its best. I left most of the meal. No one came to check on the table at any point; staff only returned to clear the plates once we had finished.
The rooms are, for the most part, acceptable. They have reasonably modern amenities and the décor is decent enough. However, the cleanliness is highly questionable. My bath towel had dark stains on it, and while the shower itself was hot and powerful, there were hairs from previous guests stuck to the tiles and scattered across the bathroom floor. I also found a few hairs on the bed, which was enough to make me check the sheets carefully before getting in.
To top it off, the television didn’t work properly - no channels would load at all. (Room 205, if management happen to read this.)
What makes all of this more frustrating is that there is potential here. The grounds and location are lovely, and with proper investment and management this could be a very good hotel where guests leave relaxed and happy.
Unfortunately, in its current state, it’s somewhere you’ll likely want to avoid. The problems here feel deep and systemic. I suspect most guests feel happiest when the hotel is disappearing in their rear-view mirror.
We stayed here Feb13 for one night using the "Beat the winter blues" promotion, BB and dinner package.
I'm very close to rating this as 5/5, but for some small issues with the room. These were paper peeling above the radiator, the window frame looking very scruffy at ground level and slightly less than adequate sound proofing between rooms. However, we ignored these details, enjoyed our stay and would gladly come again.
The pool and surrounding areas were clean, a nice sauna and decent changing rooms. There were towelling robes provided in the rooms, we wore these to and from the pool and so showered in our room. Sorry if this is not the done thing, it was done by us.
We ate a very nice dinner in the restaurant. How refreshing to find that the dinner allowance actually allowed us to have a decent meal. I'm tired of sitting down in hotel restaurants to find that I have a 'package' menu with very poor choices, or that my allowance barely buys the cheapest main course on the a la carte.
Here, the allowance covered perhaps two and half courses and that was with me choosing the second most expensive main course. Well done, guys, I was seriously impressed. I see you run conferences, perhaps you could run one to teach other hotels how this is done! The food itself was delicious, nicely set out and the staff excellent (Helen).
Breakfast was good, the usual buffet style. I didn't see any specials, nor anything that indicated a choice of poached eggs for example. I did see another guest ask one of the staff to take some bacon to the kitchen to be crisped, and this was done immediately and with a smile.
Look forward to seeing you again sometime.
Swimming pool , just qualified as a pool, any smaller it would be a big bath.
.wanted a nice romantic weekend, and it wasn't...
Returned again for our annual conference, always a clean safe environment. Lovely to be greeted by the Manager Helen and the Ginger Cat! Breakfast and Dinner buffets are always hot and plentiful and Bar area is spacious and comfortable.
In a word, great. Friendly staff, great room, nice freebies in the room and around the hotel - coffee and tea. Fabulous all you can eat breakfast. Good location. What’s not to like? Highly recommended.
We had the pleasure of staying here , my mum is 85 and we needed somewhere between Yorkshire and Brighton to meet family friends while she visited a friend in Northampton
We had a wheelchair with us and the staff couldn't do enough to help, so much so we wanted to share names Cam , Noa , Helen, Charlie thank you !
One of our group flew in very early on a flight from South Africa and they even got her room ready early
The staff , cleanliness and the food was superb
Thank you, what was going to be a one off visit wont be this is now going to be our go to place for all of us to meet up annually
Went away for a weekend with my partner and we really enjoyed our stay. Although some parts of the hotel are dated, the hotel is fantastic value for money. All the hotel staff that we met were very friendly with a special mention to the restaurant and bar staff who were exceptional.
Stayed with a works party and had a great time. Didn’t use the pool but did use the gym which was practical. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Food was amazing and the service was great. Will be back next year. Great value for money.
I booked the Sedgebrook Hall hotel, only to find it was the most disgusting hotel.ive ever stopped in ill list issues.
1. Cleanliness was terrible look at photos attached , I found letters hair clips dirt all over floor wall paper hanging off wall, dirty towels etc list goes on.
2. Cold shower no hot water I complained and the manager said oh you have a luck warm shower thats ok isn't it, I said im not happy and his answer was ill buy u a drink in bar. .. not good enough.
3. Resturant very limited, I ordered a salad came and was worse salad ive ever had asked for ceasar sald this was rubbish had better in a mcdonalds.
4 staff were rude really cant warn you enough dont stop here terrible
Disappointing stay that did not match expectations
We stayed at Sedgebrook Hall last weekend, and unfortunately our experience did not live up to the expectations created by the hotel’s website and presentation.
We specifically chose Sedgebrook Hall because it was promoted as a historic, estate-style property. However, the room we were allocated felt very basic and generic — comparable to a budget chain hotel rather than a characterful country house. This was a real disappointment given the image and positioning of the hotel.
Our sleep was also significantly disturbed. During the night, there was considerable noise from other guests, and the walls did not seem to provide sufficient sound insulation. In addition, the bed was extremely soft and unstable, sagging noticeably in the middle and causing us to roll towards each other, which made it very uncomfortable and disrupted our rest.
Another key reason for choosing this hotel was the availability of electric vehicle charging. Unfortunately, upon arrival we were informed that charging was not possible, which caused additional inconvenience and was not communicated clearly in advance.
Overall, the stay did not align with what Sedgebrook Hall promises online. While the setting has potential, our actual experience fell short in several important areas. We are therefore leaving an honest review to reflect this experience for future guests.
We booked what we were told were rooms in the main house only to arrive and be given directions to what looked like student accommodation no where near the main house. The room !! Where do I start tiny wardrobe which kept getting stuck stains on the floor and curtains and the bathroom yuk see the photos black and orange mould everywhere and to top it off kept awake by what sounded like rats gnawing and scratching in the wall and ceiling room 251 totally ruined birthday . We felt pushed out and not welcome as there was Xmas parties going on
The hotel is quiet in a very lonely place so it’s best for reflections and solemn family time. There were loads of organisations having Christmas parties.
The jacuzzi wasn’t working but we only knew that after booking. The sauna is in a little corner and wasn’t mentions anywhere in the description. Found it 30 minutes to checkout and wasn’t so happy as the sauna and the hut tub was my priority.
Breakfast was pretty British. Overall not so bad.
Hit and miss this place I think. We were at a Christmas dinner dance and stayed overnight in the modern part of the hotel. The hotel was extremely busy with I think 4 different parties in 4 different rooms. The food was fine, but being so crammed in made the service a bit challenging. Made our exit at about 11 pm and although the room was nice, it was very noisy. Probably to be expected during the Christmas period and perhaps we are just a bit boring!
We stayed for one night to attend an Armed Forces Veterans Ladies Night. It was a long walk from the car park to the reception and then a very long walk along corridors and two lots of stairs and then up another flight of stairs to our room
Room was ok but there was mould in the bathroom and I had to do a treasure hunt to find the tea and coffee tray ( it’s in the wardrobe). There were only two normal tea bags and four milks, one of which was empty. The fan in the bathroom was either a silent one or not working as the mirror was steamed up almost immediately. I did ring down re both of these issues but only the former was rectified ( but still only had 4 teabags….) There were also no biscuits and no glasses
Meal was average - one slice of turkey compared to three or four pieces of chicken - but the service was excellent. On leaving the dining room, I went to get a glass of water from the coffee station ( a nice touch), and there we encountered two groups of people from the two Xmas parties booked at the same time as us fighting in the smoking area. This continued up onto the second floor where our room was and where a young woman was punched in the face. The staff tried their best to separate the two factions but it was an uncontrollable level of violence which eventually needed police assistance. It’s not what you expect from what is marketed as a country hotel
When we finally got to bed, the bed itself was really comfortable but our sleep was disturbed by the sound of what seemed to be a heating unit emanating from garage like building to the rear of the our room of which the receptionist in the morning had no knowledge of. So we paid the same amount of money for a room as the
people opposite who had amazing views over the Northamptonshire countryside and without the noise
If this had been a Premier Inn, we would have been offered our money back immediately on complaining to reception - we were just told that they were sorry. It’s a shame as it’s a lovely looking hotel but you don’t get to stay in the house, you just get conference type bedrooms. We won’t be staying there again
Driving up was impressed by the grounds. Reception staff very friendly even showing us a quick way to our room.
Room was spacious and bed was nice but did not like the pillows but still slept. Breakfast amazing and great selection and buffet style. Used the pool which was fine and not to cold. Did not eat dinner here as prefer to go out but great value for money and would recommend staying here for a weekend. X mass parties made it and noise was not a problem .
Food and staff were kinda friendly. Ask for boxing on as no one was watching the tv’s. even told member of staff no one was watching the tv’s. Got told “NO” even though both of us saw no1 watching. Asked why, it’s been requested that the rugby should be on. Don’t know how as there was no1 looking at any tv!! Food was a 4/10. Room has mold in the bathroom. Not even got half way through the night and writing this. Very disappointed.
Have just had a nights stay with friends ,for
dinner , bed and breakfast at sedgebrook hall.
It was fantastic value for money, rooms were clean, and the beds so comfortable. Nice linen and large bath towels.
The food was amazing especially as included in our deal and the buffet style breakfast had a great selection from fruit, cereals to full English.
We found the staff very friendly and helpful especially Ian who when we asked for recommendations of places to see nearby was very knowledgeable. Reception, bar and waiting staff were also very dedicated and took pride in their work and looking after visitors.
All in all had a great experience and would recommend 🤗
Julia, Jill, Tina and Marina
We had a great stay for a motorcycle group reunion. Helen and her team were extremely efficient in looking after our dinner table of 21 people. The food was very good and well presented.
The breakfast buffet was very nice with a good selection of food.
The free tea and coffee at a couple of different areas throughout the hotel was a nice touch.
A nice little pool with a sauna and a jacuzzi (in our opinion the jacuzzi could have been hotter!)
The hotel is in lovely surroundings, has feee WiFi and plenty of parking.
We would recommend and will stay again.
