The Garden to the Hotel was a real bonus, secluded & very calming.
Dont have any comments.
Staff friendly, great facilities in room, breakfast was basic on the continental side but cooked breakfast was lovely. They supply bored games to play in room and also have a games area with pool, darts etc
Very outdated lots of wear and tear on furniture in room bedside tables broken. Heavy looking paintings and mirrors lopsided looked like they were going to fall off. Bath took a while to drain. Pillows were too thick not really that comfortable duvets are also really thick and heavy so weather depending can be good or bad. Walls are paper thin. Bar and restaurant closed on Sundays but wasn’t informed of this until after we booked.
This is a fantastic little find. Just off the motorway but miles away from anywhere. Don’t expect a Holiday Inn, this is so much better. The staff couldn’t do enough for you. The hotel itself is a grand old building, set in its own grounds with a lovely garden. I have to commend the chef, such a nice chap and does a cracking breakfast. The local village has a couple of superb pubs and a curry house, and just a gentle stroll away, OK about a mile away but an easy jaunt. The local train station takes you into Liverpool or Chester and although we didn’t venture that far, I was assured it was an easy trip. We both agreed it was definitely somewhere we would love to return. Thank you to Helen, the owner, for making us so welcome. Hope to see you again..
We were really looking forward to a break away. We were contacted to see if we wanted to book a table in the restaurant, which we declined. At this point they should have made us aware that there were no bar or food facilities!
When we arrived our first impressions were of all the cigarette butts on the ground near the front door. Then as you step inside there is a very acrid smell of smoke.
On arrival I wasn’t hugely happy about the £35 charge for a small dog for 2 nights, but paid this regardless! On the website it says that charges ‘may’ apply.
When we checked in we were told then that the bar and restaurant were shut on Easter Sunday so we could not get food or drinks.
We were first allocated Room 104. This isa ground floor, pet friendly, room. The window was faulty on the right hand side. We tried to run the jacuzzi bath, which was the seller to us and the hot water tap came off in my hand. Tried to call reception from the ‘phone’ in the room. But this was plastic and did not work, just rattled. Could not get the heating working and there were no instructions. However, there were instructions on how to use a one push button kettle. The kettle and the filter water jug were a quarter filled with water. In the bathroom
there were two sinks but the plug did not work on the right hand side.
Three times we went to reception. I was told that we could be moved to another room that had a walk in shower. I said that I had paid for a whirlpool bath. After a short while they moved us to room 212 which was a lot smaller, with a smaller television. The plug still did not work on the right hand side. The curtain on the right hand side is broken.
The toiletries were heavily watered down!
The ‘garden view’ was not very appealing with three large commercial laundry blue bins outside.
On our second evening the noise from next door caused us to knock on at 10pm and tell them to keep the noise down. They told me that they were told that there was going to be nobody next to them.
High speed internet was constantly dropping out. Difficult to watch programmes on the ‘smart tv’.
No toilet brush in the bathroom.
Walls are so thin that we could hear the next door guests urinating at night and also playing bingo. Obviously not a fault of the hotel but quite frustrating.
Curtains not blackout or fixed properly as the lights from the’ garden’ just lit up the room. Not sure what time they were eventually switched off.
The above photos attached show the view outside the kitchen and what we could see from our ‘garden view’ bedroom. Also the facilities from Booking.com.
It could be such a lovely place. I do not think it is worth the money paid. Especially given the very high charge for dogs. I’ve never paid that much before, even for 4 star hotels.
On Sunday night we read some of the reviews from the hotel over the last few years. Some are good but lots do focus on the attitude of the owner. I did get that vibe but didn’t really have that much to do with her. The blonde lady in reception was however helpful.
Upon checking out the reception desk shutters were down and we felt practically ushered out.
It is just such a shame because it is a beautiful building in a lovely area but what is advertised and what is offered is worlds apart.
Clean and beautiful
Nothing
Staff was lovely so kind and helpful
Couldn’t fault it everything was perfect for price
Amazing stay — the room was spotless and comfortable, and the breakfast was absolutely fantastic.
The room was lovely, a nice size. The bed was comfortable and we slept well. The hotel was really nice and considering there was a wedding in progress we were not disturbed by any party noise.
The shower was a bit low and I struggled to stand up in it. The coffee in the room was bitter and there were insufficient uht milk cartons to have more than 1 drink each.
Jacuzzi bath was a surprise , the bed was brilliant , loved the decor and was so roomy , and the tv was big good picture . Lovely grounds want to come again
Was only three hangers
The grounds
Cleanliness. One night stay moved to 3 different rooms
Breakfast was good, hotel is a little tired in places
The hotel needs quite a bit of decorating
We booked this hotel for our wedding reception and couldn’t have chosen a better venue. The hotel is full of character and set on beautiful grounds with a lovely stream running through, which made for a perfect setting and stunning photos.
Our function room was spacious and well laid out, with its own bar area that worked brilliantly for the evening celebrations.
A special thank you to Helen, the owner, who was so helpful and welcoming from the very beginning. Our wedding coordinator, Natallia, was absolutely exceptional ,she truly went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect and stress-free.
The food was fantastic thanks to Francois, who was not only incredibly talented but also extremely friendly and happy to chat with guests. And a big thanks to Debbie, who ran the bar on the night and was always on hand to help with anything we needed, keeping everything running smoothly.
We’re so grateful to the whole team for making our special day unforgettable.
Thank you again.
