Convenient for our trip.
The Hotel was extremely quiet, this felt a little odd. Helen was very welcoming. Apparently their main clients are wedding parties. Room was very cold upon arrival, we were given a mobile heater while waiting the the heating to come through.
Staff are extremely helpful and room was ideal
I stay at this hotel regularly for work and it has become my favourite place to stay in the area.
What I really appreciate is the atmosphere – it feels very personal and relaxed, not like a big anonymous chain where nobody knows you. After a long day it’s so nice to just arrive, have a proper dinner with a drink and not worry about finding a restaurant or driving anywhere.
The food is genuinely excellent and feels more like home cooking than hotel food, but still presented like in a Michelin-style restaurant. I always look forward to dinner here.
Breakfast is always a highlight – one chef brings the sunshine and creative chaos, the other delivers the perfect classic comfort food. Either way, I start my day smiling.
The owner and staff are very warm and welcoming, and I always feel looked after. It honestly feels more like visiting friends than staying in a hotel.
It’s a comfortable, friendly place with a lot of character, and that’s exactly why I keep coming back.
I enjoy it in every season, and I can’t wait to see all the different plant species in the garden bloom again in spring.
Nothing is perfect, even Buckingham Palace!
Great value for money
Staff extremely helpful and friendly
Recommend 10/10
Helpful staff
Quintessentially English
Very Christmassy (December stay)
Beautiful location
Decent breakfast
Comfy beds
Nice architecture and spacious bright rooms. Classic decor and peaceful atmosphere
The food was absolutely fantastic. The chefs are excellent and everything was to a high standard.
The staff are very warm, welcoming and couldn’t have been nicer. A thoroughly enjoyable visit. Would recommend to anyone.
It took over 45 minutes to get someone to book me in. I asked twice, phoned twice (from the reception area), knocked on various doors - no response. When I managed to speak to someone they said I would have to sit and wait as staff were cooking dinner. Eventually someone came out and just kept saying 'don't blame me'...I booked somewhere else and left
the check in process
Excellent
Location and beds where great
Lack of staff, lots of dust and cleanliness, couldn't eat at a proper table in the evening even tho they where available, no hot water, bath was filthy and an annoying noise every 30 seconds like someone was using a hammer drill
Very good breakfast. Rooms were extremeley comfortable and large.
I had my wedding here in 2025, and all I can say was that I was promised many things which were not delivered.
Myself and my now husband had many meetings with the owner Helen, which went ok. On a few details of our wedding day, it was Helen's way or the highway. For example, the timings on how my bridesmaids should walk down the aisle - Helen went with her way.
My wedding was in off-peak season so it wasn't too hot for my kids or any guests. However, the hotel did have a rather strange smell about it during my wedding weekend, but I just couldn't figure out what it was and still to this day unsure.
I hired chair covers/bows from a business in Ellesmere Port for just short of £400, and they communicated with Brook Hall on when was best to start setting up for my wedding. They were advised two days prior so they had enough time to dress the tables with cutlery, plates etc. When I got to Brook Hall the day before my wedding, I found a 60th wedding anniversary party using all of the brand new table covers and bows I had paid to hire. Some of them even had stains on them already. I asked reception why they were being used and I was told that they don't have enough chairs on site for my wedding and the party to use separately. My thinking is that Brook Hall benefitted from this and charged the party accordingly for 'decor'.
During my wedding breakfast, my mum was in the hotel corridor next to the reception suite and was talking to our secret wedding singers. Helen was outraged that the secret singers were going on during dinner, and she was incredibly annoyed the day wasnt going to HER plan. She had an argument with my mum, who has stage 4 cancer and is incredibly vulnerable, infront of all of my suppliers. Numerous suppliers we used have now blacklisted Brook Hall and refuse to work with them.
A lot of my guests the following morning commented on how rude the lady was behind reception when they were checking in the morning of my wedding. From their description, it was Helen.
My mother and father in law were accomodated in an accessible room on the grund floor, to find the shower area rife with mould. This room has since been refunded due to the condition it was in.
However, the other staff on-site cant get enough priase from me. Two ladies with blonde hair (I forget their names as I got married nearly a year ago) couldnt do enough for me when I was setting up everything for my wedding the day before. They are honestly the loveliest girls. One of them did say to me a couple of times 'has Helen been ok with you?', which speaks volumes!
The French head chef, Francois, is just incredible. He's a real kind person and cant do enough. Some of my wedding guests did have some allergies, and he was keen to give solutions on how we can get around it. He is a massive positive of Brook Hall Hotel.
Honestly, its such a shame Im writing this review almost a year later as I thought I'd look back and think it wasnt that bad I'm just overthinking things. But as its still on my mind now, I don't want any bride to have a negative experience at any time on their wedding day.
If Helen improved her overall attitude and communication style with guests and paying couples, it could be an amazing wedding venue. It would be a one star if it wasnt for the members of staff who were outstanding.
The lady in reception was extremely rude when I told her the jacuzzi bath didn’t work. We got locked out of our room & was told to keep the away from our mobile
There was music being played from arrival at around 4pm until we complained at 11pm as there was a speaker outside our room, this caused issues when trying to get our 5yr old to sleep. When I complained to the manager, who was in the bar drinking with other guests, it was like she had forgotten we were even there! The music was then turned off however at this point our whole stay was tainted. My wife went to reception in the morning and explained what had happened and requested if we could check out early, after a 6hr drive for our stay we were tired and very unhappy. The man we spoke to was very helpful and agreed we would be refunded for the remaining 2 nights of our stay. It has now been 2wks and nothing has been received and messages have been ignored. We have also complained to booking.com and they have asked for us to be contacted but still nothing! This has not been a pleasant experience for us at all, this was not the only thing that caused issues during our very brief visit.
