I travel to PEI several times a year. After trying a few other places to stay, I found the Rodd Charlettown.

Pros:

Clean, friendly staff

Cons:

There was a hockey tournament and the kids were in the hall playing mini sticks so as much as we wanted to sleep in it was hard to do so with hockey and kids in the hallway.

Hired security for hockey tournament treated parents like criminals
Pros:

Don’t book for group bookings. We stayed with our hockey team and had an unpleasant experience. Rooms are extremely small. Pool is dated. Restaurant staff was extremely rude. Parking was an issue (small lot). The hired security for the weekend treated the parents like criminals (wore black gloves, stared us down in the hallway, checked on us every 10 minutes via the elevator, spoke rudely to us, patrolled like he was expecting a riot). The entire floor was full with hockey parents and we were not creating a disturbance and were contained to that level. We were very uncomfortable. Management promised us a communal room for gathering with our team - they tried to take it back and told us it was no longer available. (It was just full with another team). Offered the smaller room to us which was undersized for the amount of teams that booked at the hotel. We had a small corner of the room and we were not able to carry out our team building/celebrate a birthday as planned. Overall, we would not book this hotel again simply because of the lack of customer service and intimidating security.

Over-priced
Pros:

Overall, not a positive experience. The room was clean and adequate, the bed was comfortable. The room temperature was on the chilly side, even after adjusting the thermostat. I could hear every word being spoken by the guests in the room next to ours. The water temperature never got above barely warm and the water pressure and volume in the shower was non-existent; it was no more than a dribble. I did not feel that the price of the room matched the experience.

Not My Favorite Rodds
Pros:

The hotel is very clean and beautiful.
However, I did have a few negative experiences during this stay. As a frequent rodd hotel guest I knew that kids ate free and when I asked the waitress about it, she was very snappy and mean about it. She said I should have got a braclet when I checked in. She made me feel bad for even asking about it and like it was my fault they forgot to give it to me.
Also, when booking it was advertised that their was a hot tub and it was in fact the only reason I picked this hotel for our staycation, when in fact their was no hot tub.
During our supper our son ordered nachos, expecting chips & cheese so just imagine the look of disappointment when the waffle fries covered in cheese came out. (It was not in the menu that they were this kind of nachos!)
Also, the menus at the resturant were all very dirty and need a deep clean!
The front desk staff were very friendly and helped me out.

New Year's spent with my family
Pros:

Super nice New Year's Eve! My husband and I booked a few nights here over the holidays and decided to spend New Years Eve here and also got my Mum a room too. Everything was perfect (Thanks Andrew!) we had dinners and breakfasts in Chambers Dining Room (fabulous food and all the people working here lovely. We had the NYE menu which has lots of choice, good portions and the dessert cart had something for everyone! Had 2 great swims in their wonderful pool and overall a top notch experience from start to finish.
