My stay at The Grand Del Mar was exceptional from start to finish. The property strikes a rare balance between refined luxury and genuine warmth — something that can’t be manufactured, only lived by a team that truly cares.
The rooms were spotless and beautifully maintained, offering both comfort and understated elegance. Every detail felt intentional, from the crisp linens to the serene ambiance that made it easy to unwind.
What truly sets this hotel apart, however, is the staff. Their warmth was authentic — not rehearsed or overly polished. Interactions felt personalized and engaging, with a level of emotional intelligence that made every exchange meaningful. The team clearly listens, anticipates needs, and adapts naturally, creating an experience that feels both attentive and effortless. Service was present and proactive, yet never robotic or intrusive.
The food and beverage program deserves special recognition. The offerings were thoughtfully curated, showcasing creativity and quality without feeling pretentious or inaccessible. There was an excellent variety, allowing for both elevated dining and relaxed, approachable options. The menus felt authentically local, highlighting regional flavors and ingredients in a way that was refined yet welcoming. It struck the perfect balance between sophistication and comfort.
The location is equally impressive — peaceful and picturesque, yet conveniently positioned to enjoy the best of the surrounding area. It’s the kind of setting that enhances the entire stay.
In a hospitality landscape where service can sometimes feel transactional, The Grand Del Mar stands out for its dedication to the guest experience. It doesn’t just provide luxury — it delivers care, connection, and a sense of being genuinely valued. I would return without hesitation.
We arrived with our 12 yr old Staffie, Stella, and everyone welcomed us with smiles and a beautiful upgrade to a suite. The next evening I upgraded us to a larger suite and it was so spacious and beautiful we didn’t want to leave. The valet and bellmen Tristan, Brian, Brooklyn, Angie and the rest of the illustrious crew were especially accommodating towards our (many ) needs since we had a few parties and evenings with friends by the fire. Pool and spa are gorgeous and just right temperature, activities numerous and as said the staff was the best.
It’s a can’t miss in San Diego County
What an absolute slice of heaven. This place is not only magical, but the top-tier service is truly second to none. If you have the pleasure of crossing paths with Niel at the desk, he will absolutely go above and beyond. And if you meet Rustin around the property, you’ll quickly see he’s an absolute gem who genuinely wants you to live your best life. I cannot wait to come back and feel like royalty all over again.
Vlad was the best part of our stay! He was incredibly professional, but also so sweet and kind. Every night when we had questions or needed recommendations, he was there to help with a smile.
He made us feel so comfortable and taken care of from day one. It’s rare to meet someone who is both so competent and genuinely warm. Such a great start to our trip! thank you, Vlad!
I stayed at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar for a weekend with my daughter. I wish I had stayed a little longer. The property itself is beautiful. It looked well maintained.
My experience from the moment we arrived to departure was 5/5. Everyone I had come into contact with from the valet, front desk, waiter, room service were helpful and friendly. They had smiles on their faces unlike employees at other places where they look like they don't want to be there. They made me feel so welcomed!
The room was spacious and clean. The property has many activities for everyone from kids to adults.
I researched a lot before settling on Fairmont and I'm so glad I did. I will definitely go ahead and visit other Fairmont properties if opportunities come up.
Our stay at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar was truly exceptional, especially during an unexpected extension due to a blizzard back home. What could have been a stressful situation with two young kids was handled with such care and professionalism by the team. Dylan was incredibly helpful in extending our stay in the same room so we didn’t have to pack up and move, which made a world of difference for our family. Neil went above and beyond — assisting with our room, sharing thoughtful recommendations, and even arranging for diapers to be delivered when we ran out. Ulrich made our children (and mom and dad too!) feel so special with individualized gifts and handwritten notes filled with personalized suggestions for our stay. Their warmth and attention to detail turned an unplanned extension into a genuinely memorable and wonderful experience. Beyond all of this, the grounds are spectacular!
Beautiful hotel. Great location. I checked in at 4 pm and my room was still being cleaned. When I got into the room the mini fridge had leaked and the carpet was soaked. Rather than moving me they put an industrial fan in my room. They asked me to use it for a couple of hours and see if it would dry up the carpet. When I asked if I was getting a discount as I was only there for the night and I had paid over $900 for the room, they said no and thanked me for my understanding.
Upon arrival at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar, Neil welcomed me at the front desk with the kind of attentiveness that sets luxury service apart. He surprised me with a gorgeous large bedroom suite—an unexpected gesture that made clear from that first moment that my stay would be something memorable. Thank you, Neil.

Every member of the staff made a lasting impression. From the evening drivers who were warm and welcoming Andrew and John, the bellmen who were attentive and helpful, to the bar staff who were both attentive and engaging and kept my husband happy with plenty of popcorn refills, the level of service was remarkable. I was especially touched by the kindness of the front desk manager, who graciously made me a coffee when the coffee shop was not yet open. That simple gesture perfectly captured the spirit of hospitality we experienced throughout our visit.
It is clear that the team takes great pride in creating an outstanding guest experience. Thank you for leading such an incredible group of professionals.
We are already looking forward to return
Vlad greatest us at reception and was amazing - he answered all our questions and made us feel so welcome.
My girl friends and I took a quick weekend getaway and our stay was amazing!
From the arrival to the departure, we loved everything about it.
The resort and the ground was very well maintained and interior of the hotel was so beautiful. The staffs were so kind and friendly, remembered our names every time we were talking to them. It just made us feel very special.
We took the courtesy vehicle to our dinner and back and it was very convenient. The driver made sure we were getting picked up with no waiting time.
We had such a great experience at the such luxurious resort. We want to come back to this property on our next girls trip again!!
We just finished a six-night stay as a family of four, and the day before checkout I told my wife I wasn't ready to leave. That pretty much sums it up.
The hotel reached out before we even arrived to ensure a smooth check-in, which set the tone nicely. Christian Scherping, Diana Cortese, and Bella Valente all stood out for the genuine warmth they showed our family throughout the stay.
What really set this place apart was how the team treated our kids. There's a difference between tolerating children and truly welcoming them. The staff here clearly do the latter, and it showed in every interaction. Shoutout to Mr. Baseem at the Amaya restaurant. He was incredibly kind and patient with our daughters in a way that felt personal, not rehearsed.
Great resort. Beautiful grounds, great to walk around in the early morning. The people were friendly and helpful. The valet parking was quick.
The downside was the coffee shop where for 4 days in a row the drip coffee was either weak or tinged with unpleasant flavors. They do espresso drinks so all is not lost.
We absolutely loved the grounds. A great place for families. We went horseback riding, my kids played in the courtyard, my son played catch with my husband on the large open lawn. Absolutely beautiful amenities. Atmosphere is sophisticated but welcoming.
The rooms we in need of a renovation or update sadly. The carpet had wine stains and the dresser had a cracked mirror on the drawer. The carpet was also a bit tattered so with a baby I just wasn’t comfortable setting her down at any point. We also couldn’t give the kids baths because the water comes out blue tinted from the copper pipes. When we told the front desk they sent and “Engeneering” who said it needed to be tested and we should switch rooms. We switched rooms and had the same problem and then was told actually it’s just the lighting, that’s totally normal. It’s not, we looked it up and called a friend who’s a bit more knowledgeable all confirming I SHOULD NOT put may baby in that water. We had to stick with quick showers but very concerning for a luxury five star resort. I would have loved to come back but my husband wasn’t comfortable with the water or their response of “it’s normal” when we were told clearly it’s not from the beginning. Hotel offered no apology. Not great.
Wonderful stay for the entire family. All the staff were exceptional and provided the highest quality of service. The room was unbelievably luxurious and comfortable. The breakfast at Amaya was great every morning and the grounds were breathtaking. We look forward to visiting every year!
The location is beautiful! This was a staycation for us. Atmosphere of the resort and restaurants is spectacular. Our room was beautiful overlooking the grounds. We had an dinner at the three Michelin star restaurant Addison. The meal service and dining experience was un surpassed.
The staff was amazing. Very friendly and attentive. The room was spacious and had a beautiful view. Loved the design of the bathroom with the privacy window. The tub is deep for soaking and came in handy after a game of pickleball. The grounds are absolutely beautiful. Dinner at the Addison was spectacular with every bite being delectable. Everything was so tender. About a 30 minute drive from the airport so there is easy access to the city if needed.
It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend that you stay here. Just hanging in the lobby is a treat. My only regret is I did not have time to play soccer ball.
Great property with private rooms, fountains, walkways, and gazebos. It is truly grand as per the name.
