Highlights were the beautiful room and grounds and Amaya restaurant. Also, really enjoyed archery.
However, what really irks me is that they want you to pay $100 to use the spa facilities, when you’re already a paid hotel guest. Quit nickel and diming people! As if the hotel itself isn’t outrageously expensive. Same goes with the electric bicycles. Don’t make this a 3rd party amenity. Guests should be able to borrow them for free.
Plus, the hotel was eerily empty. Don’t get me wrong, we enjoyed the quiet atmosphere, but one has to assume that most people are put off by the prices.
Beautiful atmosphere. The front desk, valet, and bellman were incredible. They were all so kind, helpful, and professional, especially Kaitlyn at the front desk, and Keaton in valet. 5 star.
The only negative I experienced was the food. The room service food and Amaya food was actually horrible. We spent a lot of money on food. In the future I may not spend more than one night here because the food is so low quality.
I found the property to be spectacular in every way. The grounds are like wonderfully manicured, and the bedrooms have all of the decorative elements that one can imagine!
The service is for sure a “10”. Everyone making sure I had the very best service. I had a terrific 3 nights!
We had the best experience at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar! The colleagues are the best, very friendly and helpful! Best Resort in California!
I have stayed here at Fairmont Grand Del Mar about a dozen times and it never disappoints. From arrival with the valet friendly greeting, followed by a wonderful & efficient front desk, to immaculate housekeeping, and the great service by the Food & Beverage team, it’s just a wonderful experience. During my stay this time, it was during the NBA final game and the World Cup, therefore “The Library”was the perfect place to spend Saturday evening with the large screen TV and wonderful Food & Beverage Service. Great shout out to Shea in F&B, Swamy in Engineering and Amanda,Nathan & Nenad who I had the pleasure to bump into during my stay.
amazing property, feels like your in Europe
Great service. It was really amazing experience. 4 vacation days there was not enough.
Our experience at fairmont was average due to poor service. The hotel itself is beautiful and expansive (albeit a bit outdated decor wise). So visually we liked it, and appreciated the expansive grounds. But at the pool, the service was terrible. It took forever for us to be checked on, our server would forget to come back for 30-45 min at a time. Our food took over an hour to get to us. And overall we felt like we had to find people to help us, which should never happen at a luxury resort. Also the food costs are unusually high as compared to the other luxury resorts we have been to locally, but the service is so bad it felt like a rip off (plus the actual food was subpar so it felt like we were paying premium rates for bar food). This was the same for the bellman service (took forever for them to get to our room) and also for the service at grand social restaurant. The restaurant experience was beyond bad.... it took over an hour to get food, the food did not all come out together leaving us all eating at different times. We had to walk around and find a server. And the food itself was bad. Overall it just felt like really low level service for a resort charging luxury resort rates. And walking out of grand social with a bill that exceeded $400, but feeling like we had dined at a DIY bbq park. It's just a bit shocking how bad the service if for a fairmont resort.
Due to the poor service, we would probably not come back. It felt like we didn't get what we paid for, and if we are going to spend the money we prefer to experience something a bit more dialed in.
The Fairmont Grand Del Mar is a really great hotel! The location is beautiful and quiet, the people are welcoming, the rooms are clean and beautiful. We stayed here on a spur of the moment trip where we wanted to go to the beach and zoo but stay somewhere relaxing and quiet. This hotel achieved that! As both our wants were only 20-30min drives away. The hotel does come with a complimentary car but that gets booked up well in advance. When it comes to the rooms they are beautifully decorated and you can’t hear your neighbors. The doors to the hallways are a little thin but that’s only a problem if a child goes screaming past, which didn’t happen too often. The food was amazing and the staff were so warm and welcoming!
My only issues would be the bed frames. The first room we were given had the squeakiest bed frame, there was no way we would be able to roll over in our sleep without waking each other up. After brining it to the attention of the hotel we were in another room in 20min. It had a less squeaky bed frame, something we could live with. I would love to see the hotel service their bed frames as it’s probably the one piece of furniture that gets abused the most.
Overall we would definitely stay here again and consider other Fairmont properties. It is pricey, especially the valet parking, but we had a lovely and relaxing time.
Great resort and overall property! The staff was very nice and responsive. Their primary restaurant Amaya had a tasty breakfast. Beautiful landscaping with a lot of activities for everyone.
We ordered room service and the chocolate strawberries and charcuterie board were great! We later ordered dinner (salmon and the smash burger). The salmon entree was very salty and the smash burger was not cooked well. Suggest you to go the restaurant for dining. We also had an issue with the wine opener they provided but they immediately sent up someone to replace the opener and stayed to open the bottle for us. 😊
Your senior director Neil Patel was so warm, knowledgeable and helpful. We will come back just for him! Addison was amazing.
Nice room, very good concierge, very expensive Food and inattentive service. Isolated environment
My wife and I decided to go to there for our 30th wedding anniversary. We are avid travelers and I have been to 54 countries and stayed at hundreds of hotels and resorts. We were not familiar with this resort but we both enjoy golf and pickleball. Being from commercial construction and architecture, I am a perennial critic of hotels. This property bar none is the nicest hotel property that I have ever experienced. I could not find a flaw. The attention to detail was impressive.
Neal at the front desk was amazing and the valet, restaurant hostesses, servers and staff were amazing. Personable responsive and welcoming.
The property is in a stunning setting and although the golf course was closed for aeration the facilities were first class. Pickleball/ tennis courts were beautiful and they have multiple pools around the property including an adults only pool w/ cabanas.
With highs in the 70’s and lows in the 60’s it is difficult to find a place more appealing weather wise for the Summer or other times for that matter.
We played some of the local courses Aviara, Torrey Pines, etc. which are all within 30 minutes. Dinner or day trips to Del Mar & La Jolla were awesome.
Only cons that I could find, was that it was certainly not inexpensive, charging for the pickleball courts seem petty and the restaurant combinations should be revisited. Perhaps changing one to make the menu more approachable. We did not eat at the Michelin rated restaurant.
We just scratched the surface on our 5 day trip and will definitely be returning with friends.
Most grateful that our room was available despite us checking in 4 hours early without any pre-request. We just assumed to drop our bags and go for lunch whilst waiting.
Reception lady was amazing as was our room too, a Deluxe Veranda King. This room had a decent sized bath, separate shower, toilet cubicle, double skink and wardrobe in the bathroom area plus a bedroom area with super king bed, small corner sofa, desk and tv with lots of drawer storage.
In room steamer was great for ladies clothing - had to request an iron which was helpfully supplied for men’s wear.
The only reason for the 4 not 5 star review (I’d give 4.5 if possible) is the poolside and event area service. Drinks orders were forgotten on multiple occasions. The staff don’t appear to carry devices that allow them to input an order and send it to the kitchen or bar. By the time they’ve gotten back to the service area our requests were forgotten.
Stunning grounds, lovely staff and great food. Highly recommended. Would stay here again.
We had a great experience, ambience, live music, and restaurants were so amazing. We didn’t have to leave the hotel during our entire stay
The desk manager Anil was excellent and obviously very polished. He repaired and salvaged a reservation foul up that was no fault of his own. Great guy.
Only complaint is the surprise parking fee for my auto. $70? Parking. And 70$ facilities fee?? For a 10 hour stay.
Stunning property with outstanding service. Truly an amazing weekend. I really appreciate that they have an adults only pool. Will definitely be back!
Our stay was nothing short of fantastic. Although the grounds and amenities are great, it's the service that was the highlight. All staff members were attentive to our needs and accomodating. Ulrich and his team went above and beyond to make sure we had an amazing time. We will certainly be back!
From the minute, we entered the gate, to the drive out, we had an awesome experience at Fairmont Grand Del Mar! I can’t say enough about the staff. Every person we encountered was extremely helpful and nice. Dylan checked us in and was friendly and efficient. When we asked for a different room, he was quick to accommodate us. Nok was our checkout person and very friendly too. We ate at Amaya and had the pleasure of having Vladimir our server twice. Bessim also helped take care of us. What an excellent team in the restaurant. The grounds and hotel are beautiful and well accommodating. We had dinner at Addison by William Bradley and were so pleasantly surprised that the hotel offered a shuttle to and from the restaurant. A very marvelous experience. Thank you for a fabulous stay.
