We read the reviews and decided to book based on them. I wouldn’t give it 4 or 5 stars but rather 2.5. The first impression after heading toward the temp lobby is this isn’t looking nice at all. Just looked less than a 4.5 star because it wasn’t kept clean. Fingermarks everywhere and the carpet was so tacky like giant car mats randomly placed everywhere. Nothing said ‘wow’ about the place. Entering the lifts were a nightmare as you had to wait for quite some time as only one was working and with all the lobby work you had to get into 2 different lifts to get to your room.
We had a large family room which was great and the view I will give them that it was spectacular. The bonus is you can open windows for air.
Initially entering the room when we opened the door I thought it looked clean and appealing. Then when I walked around I noticed so much damage ie broken microwave, powerpoints hanging out, lots of massive stains on the carpet and dirty and gritty finger marks on the glass doors to the rooms and on the walls and the mirrors in the bedrooms were filthy. The foul smell that came out of the kitchen sink/drain was stomach turning.
The bathrooms had no powerpoints which was an inconvenience if you wanted to dry or straighten your hair. The upside was the shower water was hot in one of the showers and had good pressure. The other showerhead was loose. The coffee pod machine doesn’t make the coffee hot- it’s lukewarm!
The bed sheets honestly were not changed. There were blood stains and other questionable crusty looking off-white stains which you can imagine what they were from. They also had hair in between and you could tell it had been slept in and not changed in a very long time because the areas were dark in colour compared to the rest of the sheet . I think only dirty pillow case covers are changed. Trying to get through to reception to complain is another thing when they don’t answer the phone after so long ringing and when you contact housekeeping they tell you to call reception. I slept on top of the bed with my robe on so I didn’t have contact with the bed sheets.
As for the towels, the bathroom one looked clean and unfolded and had a massive blood stain that appears to not have come off in the wash . The least they could do is bleach the stains.
The buffet is scam. The photos depict a whole different variety and presentation to when you get there. Hardly anything there for $49 a person! Tasted so bland. The coffee provided was percolated and cold so then if you want a good one you would have to pay at the cafe counter for a proper coffee. Better to buy entry to sky point and not the breakfast. Have breakfast at the cafe outside near the BWS or elsewhere.
The Longboards near the pool was great. Excellent customer service and food and drinks I give that 10/10. The main worker you would think owns the place because he’s so very friendly and happy and makes you feel like you are a long time friend returning.
The pools are pretty decent. Cold but you get used to it after a while. It gets very busy in the day so if you can go in the morning or evening you will find it more enjoyable. If you need a towel for the pool you have to get it from reception as there are none available near the pool area.
To check out we had to wait in a long queue because others checking out at the same time and people also checking.
Everything is perfect! I love this hotel. I keep staying here every time I go to the Gold Coast. The atmosphere is beautiful, and the pool is huge and clean. They also have a barbecue area. The room is super spacious and so clean. There's so much space to breathe compared with some hotels, and full appliances as well. There's a fridge, dishwasher, laundry, and you can cook anything you like because there's a small kitchen. Highly recommended! You will never regret it.
Q1 Resort & Spa offers unparalleled luxury, blending elegant design with breath-taking panoramic views for an unforgettable Gold Coast experience.
NOT FROM LEVEL 3 THEY DON'T......
Terribly disappointed about our two night stay at this highly touted accommodation. Clearly the request for a higher room when booking was ignored.
Literally used it as a roof over our heads for the time spent there. No discount applied. May as well have been in the car-park.
Half a star rating if available.
Up-side was the room was clean.
Sorry team and management at Q1,
After more than 10 years of loyalty and many stays at your resort, we regret to say that we will not be returning. Our most recent experience fell well below expectations, particularly given the prices being charged.
Our concerns include:
A very poor check-in experience, with no disclosure at the time of booking that major renovations were underway at reception
Trades working most mornings and blocking access to the pool area until around 10am
Frequent lift breakdowns, making access around the building difficult
A noticeable lack of maintenance in the rooms, and management being dismissive when this feedback was raised
An unwelcoming and poorly maintained entrance to the resort
Bar closed on public holidays (including Australia Day)
No music permitted around the pool area and no entertainment offered at all for the guests
Air conditioning that was not sufficient for morning heat and could only operate effectively in one zone at a time
Blinds rattling against the windows throughout the night, making sleep difficult
For a resort charging premium rates, these issues are unacceptable. Guests should not be expected to tolerate this level of disruption, poor maintenance, and lack of transparency.
I hope this feedback is taken seriously, as the experience no longer reflects the standard we once associated with Q1. We wish you all the best and hope you will turn this around for your future guests.
The room was not what we paid for, we weren’t able to get into a room until 3 o’clock because it wasn’t ready, walk into the room, the sandal on the floor no towels in the bathroom.
When you rang reception, they couldn’t be bothered to even come up
We had to go downstairs and get our towels
Best experience so far, birthday weekend, as well as my engagement weekend! The staff were fabulous, elevators were huge, rooms were massive 140squares! Atmosphere, was exciting, value for money for the rooms and staycation yes! Doing this again next Jan! Thank you Q1 and staff, we appreciate the free bottle of champagne too, this special touches were awesome!
Jack! The young man who checked us in! Wontok, likim yu next year ok! Same same! Speaks fluent Papua New Guinea Language.
A true 5 star hotel with luxury rooms, great facilities and helpful staff. Highly recommended and would be back again
Our recent stay at Q1 Resort was extremely disappointing and uncomfortable. From the start, the air conditioning in our apartment did not work properly and, even after multiple reports to staff, the issue was never resolved.
Management moved us to a different apartment, but we experienced the same air conditioning problems again, which meant we spent most of our stay in a hot, stuffy room rather than relaxing and enjoying our holiday. This is simply not acceptable for a property that markets itself as a premium resort.
What made the situation worse was that the issue was logged multiple times, yet no effective, lasting solution was provided and we were left to “put up with it” for the duration of our stay. For the price paid and the standard advertised, the lack of basic comfort and functioning air conditioning fell far below reasonable expectations.
Based on this experience, we would not choose to stay at Q1 again and cannot recommend it to others. We have requested a full refund or credit for our stay, as the accommodation provided did not meet the standard or conditions we reasonably relied on when booking.
The hotel was under construction making access in and out of the hotel a challenge, the room was not made up from one day to the next, the main bedroom it self stunk so badly I slept in the single bedroom and had the maintenance team removed the bed head entirely because of the putrid smell. The couch was broken and the aircon kept switching itself off. I would never stay here again.
Whilst room and location are great, a few things I didn’t expect considering the positive reviews I researched:
- We weren’t made aware of the renovations until after we had booked. The wait time for elevators was shocking. Guests were impatient so would pack the tiny elevator like sardines.
- The fold out beds are horrendous. Highly encourage to book a 2 bedroom instead, even if you have little kids ( mine are 3 and 7)
- The pools are unstaffed and whilst they have “rules” no guest abided by them. There were very large groups of males who would turn the whole pool into whatever game they were playing. So much rough play and we all copped footys, torpedos, etc to the head.
- I also don’t recommend the buffet breakfast. I know it’s a tourist attraction and a lot of people go for the view, however, I’ve never seen a smaller buffet breakfast provided than this. We ended up walking into to cavill to eat again.
On arrival kept waiting for 10 minutes as only one check in person who had his hands full! So not a great start.
Room was spacious and very nice except for;
1. Toilet seat loose so slipped every time you sat down.
2. Fridge did not make ice or provide water as it should.
3. Plug for spa bath did not fit no no spa could be had. Mentioned to front desk if they could send a plug up and nothing happened.
Not major issues I understand but if I’m paying $500+ a night I expect both service and stuff that works all the time.
We came to stay in Q1 for our family holidays. The best thing about Q1 are the pools, otherwise the rest was quite disappointing.
For starters, our apartment wasn’t clean. The sheets on our bed had old blood stains , it seems like the staff isn’t even bothered to change sheets between guests.
The tiles in both barrooms floors are very slippery, which obviously is quite dangerous, especially with kids .
It just seemed like the place is run down and needs an update.
Definitely will not be staying there again
Good location short walk to the main strip however, the room was not anywhere near a 4.5 star. The bathroom had no PowerPoints which made getting ready infront of a mirror not possible. The sheets were dirty and had marks. You’re expected to take your own rubbish to bins. Make sure you look at the terms and conditions and scroll all the way to the bottom as they are doing renovations. This was poorly advertised and there were hardly any signs to show how to get to lobby or anything. For the amount you pay it was Not a great experience and I will not be returning.
Q1 is perfectly positioned, close to the beach and the centre of Surfers Paradise. My partner and I have stayed at Q1 many times and cannot compliment the service we receive more. The staff are attentive and friendly. We always pick an Ocean View room, as our preference is to watch the sun come up over the ocean each morning. The large spa bath is an added bonus for relaxation. The rooms are spotless and light filled. The pool area is large with lots of room and a great spot just to chill. You won’t be disappointed with your stay, we love it and are already planning our next trip!
Not having house keeping was a bit of a rude suprise after having it for the previous two years. Also my drier was noisey to the point when I had to close all the doors around it and sit on the balcony until it finished hoping it wouldn’t catch on fire.
The lobby renovation will be nice I’m sure once it’s completed but to charge full price and not give me a heads up that the entire hotel will be using the one lift from the ground level to level two was not great.
So over all this year at Q1 was a little average.
Clean and modern apartment with great facilities and location. The pool is great for kids and next to a restaurant/bar. Gym provided a good range of equipment. Apartment had a great view to the sea and was very clean and modern. With opted for an additional bed for my son. The springs were a bit too hard on the bed so he slept on the mattress on the floor. That would be the only negative, otherwise we had a great experience.
Great views
Room was clean and tidy
It was quite and cosy easy to everything
Pools were great not overcrowded
The only problem was that the lifts were slow and felt like there was only l lift working
Had an awesome unit on 50th floor very spacious with views from mountains to the Broadwater and Ocean will definitely return. Thanks to reception and reservation team very friendly and accommodating
We booked through La Jolla holiday we knew it was Q1 but just not through the official reception we had to collect keys at a local shop but worked well. The upside was because our apartment not rented all the time probably lived in by owners, was in good condition well maintained fresh paint new carpet etc. Great location and facilities we had stayed at Q1 before and were happy with our first stay.
We booked directly with Q1, 7 months in advance for an 11-day stay to celebrate our 5-year anniversary and a surprise engagement, paying over $2,000 and clearly noting the occasion. My fiancé also called multiple times ahead to organise proposal arrangements. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing.
We were placed on Level 6 despite booking a Hinterland mountain view. The view was of the street and a building directly opposite, offering little privacy completely inconsistent with Q1’s branding as the tallest building with “amazing views.”
When we raised concerns on day one, we were told to stay the night and that it would be “fixed” the next morning. Instead, we were told we’d need to pay an $84 cleaning fee just to move rooms. We spent hours arguing in person and on the phone, with no resolution.
Despite advising reception we would be at Movie World, we received a call at 10am telling us to vacate immediately, still pay the fee, and be without a room from 10am–4pm. During these discussions, staff repeatedly emphasised that they “needed to sell the room,” making it very clear that revenue was being prioritised over customer care.
Rather than assisting, we were repeatedly upsold a $1,600 room upgrade, which felt inappropriate given the situation and only added to the stress.
We were eventually moved on the third night, still paying the cleaning fee. We were promised champagne and chocolates as goodwill but received a $14 sparkling wine and $19 chocolates, despite the website listing champagne options worth $50–$80, which would have reasonably covered the fee we were forced to pay.
The lack of empathy, poor communication, aggressive upselling, and clear focus on money over guest experience completely overshadowed what was meant to be my surprise proposal. This stay fell far below expectations.
