Pay to stay then pay to get your car back
Pros:

Hotel shares a small parking lot with a college apartment complex. Hotel will ask you at check in for your license plate number and make and model of your vehicle and phone number. They provide a flimsy piece of paper for a parking pass to be placed on your dashboard. If you forget to place it back on your dashboard or if it falls off when you close the door, they will tow your vehicle without the courtesy of a phone call. If you complain they will tell you there is nothing they can do and you have to walk across the street to the towing company they have an “arrangement” with. $190 to get your car back with not one ounce of sympathy.

Hotel is dated. Front desk staff is extremely rude. Breakfast was a huge disappointment. Toilet was broken. Phone in room was from 1980 and had no dial tone. One of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. Highly recommend staying elsewhere!

Barderline-tatty smart hotel in great central spot.
Pros:

Great location in Durham. Generally nice.
Good breakfast.
Good coffee machine in room with decaf option.

Cons:

Car park view.
Much use of plastic and cardboard at breakfast... no real cutlery and crockery!
Hairs behind the bathroom door... perhaps cleaning not thorough.
Mistaken hotel location on booking.com?

Pros:

The air conditioning unit was loud, inefficient, and difficult to use. Also we were on the first floor and at 5:30 am a tour pulled up directly outside our window to prepare for the day. For the next 2 hours, the driver worked in the bus. I understand this is not the hotel’s fault, but that coupled with the terrible ac unit that beeped half the night, very little sleep happened.
