The location was exceptional. In walking distance to everything in the historic district.
One elevator wasn’t working the first 2 days. Once fixed, it was quick travel between floors.
Such a wonderful experience we had from the moment we arrived at Holiday Inn Express!!! The first person we came in contact with was Miquel Cosme, He answered all our questions and concerns from start to finish!!!
Excellent location. Wonderful River view.
Location is excellent. Room sis well appointed and clean
maid service should be everyday. Valet was unreliable.
Everything
Nothing
We stayed here over New Year's and we enjoyed it very much. The hotel is so conveniently located by the waterfront and is pretty much a short walk to anything along the river or other sites in historic Charleston. Also, the front staff was very friendly and special shout out to Sandra at the concierge desk, who was fabulous.
Downsides include our door didn't shut properly unless we slammed it hard and the breakfast room got really crowded in the morning with tables hard to find. Otherwise, this hotel is definitely worth a stay.
We had a great time on vacation. Miquel Cosme, the valet, was especially great and friendly. He suggested to us tons of places to visit and eat at while we were down here. I call that full service!
The highlight of our stay was interacting with Aby. I spoke with her twice before arriving and she was wonderful on the phone. Her friendliness came through as if we were talking in person. When I got a chance to actually meet her, she was so kind sweet and her smile was infectious. She’s a wonderful representative for Holiday Inn Express.
We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Savannah Historic 199 East Bay Street twice within one week because of its great location, and unfortunately both stays had the same ongoing issues. Most concerning was that one elevator was out of service for the entire hotel during both visits, creating long waits and inconvenience throughout the stay with the one remaining elevator. This single elevator was used by the staff as well.
The hotel itself felt poorly maintained. The carpet in the hallways and rooms appeared dirty, and there was a persistent musty smell that made the property feel old and neglected. The room also did not include coffee, which is a basic amenity most travelers expect from a hotel in this price range. They did offer 2 automatic coffee machines in the lobby area which was nice but inconvenient.
The breakfast was another issue. It was a buffet arrangement. The selection was very limited, and nearly everything offered consisted of highly processed food items with little variety or freshness. The second visit had fewer items than the first. Breakfast is included in the room rate so obviously the hotel is looking to find the cheapest way out. It was very disappointing.
What made the experience even more frustrating was the valet parking situation. The hotel charges $48 per night for valet parking, yet there is a city parking lot immediately next door charging only about $10–14 per night. The markup felt excessive and unnecessary.
The only positive part of our stay was the staff. The employees were consistently friendly, professional, and helpful, and they clearly did their best to work around the flaws in the hotel’s systems and maintenance issues. Unfortunately, good service alone could not make up for the overall condition and value of the property.
We will not be staying here again. We advise others to do the same. There are several other hotels in this area with the same prime location.
Great staff, breakfast was pretty good, room was small and the bed wasn't very good. the bed sheets kept popping off and the mattress showed it by the pimpled fabric on the mattress. The room showed some wear with the lighting in the hall and bathroom. But the location made it worthwhile, Nice selection of restaurants and bars was nice. The pool was freezing , but tub too hot,lol..
Pleasant stay but building needs a serious update and investment. Front desk staff welcoming and friendly though the white lobby chairs were dirty and tattered. Then to the elevator where the control panel was being held together with duct tape. There was an occasional odd musty smell in the hallway. Room was clean but no frills- no extra blanket or pillow, no directions for in-room safe, 2 plastic cups in bathroom, broken drawer, small refrig didnt work (maintenance promptly replaced, but saying we were lucky they had a spare). The shower curtain was torn at top and drooping, the toilet was marked from an obviously worn brush. The mattress was definitely not new- you could feel some of the springs. The hot tub on roof was broken with staff saying it has been waiting for a part for a long time. Breakfast was tasty, plentiful and pleasantly staffed, but the hinges on the chafing dishes were so worn they wouldnt hold up the covers or would fall while you were using them, and the hi-tech coffee machines are just too slow for that number of people- always had to wait.
We did very much enjoy Savanah for a few days- would suggest definitely staying in historic district if you like to walk around.
Location
Elevators did not work properly room was very small
Good location, close to river walk.
Not clean in the room.
Expensive valet parking - $48 per night. Wtf?
Next building to hotel is public parking with $20 per day on the week price.
Overall, this hotel is very good. You can't beat the location; just across the road from the River Walk. Super easy to walk to almost anywhere you want to get to in historic Savannah. The staff, without exception, were all super helpful, friendly and most accommodating. 10 out of 10 down the line! The physical hotel was mostly fine. No issues at all with our room. Good shower pressure. Responsive temp control. Beds were comfortable enough. While we were there (6 days), one of the 2 elevators was out of service. Not the end of the world, but in an 8 story building, it does really SLOW things down to a crawl. Hope they get that fixed soon.
The hotel provides a decent, hot breakfast included with your room. One shouldn't get too picky about a free hot breakfast, but the physical set-up was a little less than efficient. The hot chafing dishes really didn't work very well with the mandatory sneeze guard. Not completely unmanageable, but awkward. The individually ground and brewed coffee station was perhaps not the best fit to accommodate a large crowd of early morning coffee/tea drinkers. It was fine, and a nice touch later throughout the day, but didn't quite cut it in the morning.
For the location, staff, breakfast offerings and general facilities I'd rate it 8 out 10. We WOULD stay there again.
