The staff were lovely. They were friendly, chatty and helpful when it came to the local area.
The lack of car parking spaces was a real issue. The hotel had warned there were only a few spaces. The situation is exacerbated by people parking on the surrounding roads to visit the beach.
We were expecting a larger spa area. The gym equipment was acceptable but the pool was very small and there wasn’t a steam room. The hot tub and sauna were lovely though.
Pleasant enough hotel in excellent location
For >£200 per night (room only) we expected rather more. We stayed 2 nights but the room was not visited in the middle day so bed not made and tea and milk not topped up. I don't expect to be told either that the water from the bathroom taps is OK to drink if we boil it(!). I accept it is an old (well Victorian) building and the pressure from the tap seemed sufficiently high so maybe they were playing safe but, again, for the price why not have bottled water in the room rather than having to take up a jug from the bar? The swimming pool is very small and with tiny shower cubicles in the male changing room with the unpleasant prospect of having to pass very closely to two urinals between the shower and the changing area. When we checked out and paid for drinks and meals we weren't asked whether we had enjoyed our stay, just thank you for your payment.
This is a fantastic place, this is probably the best Grand hotel. I think it’s been updated recently as well. The views from the hotel are outstanding. The food is amazing the breakfast is really good. The bed was comfortable. The room and facilities were perfect. The staffare friendly. The lounge area is a lovely place to sit and relax, the conservatory is very nice. The breakfast is extremely good and the diningroom has lovely views. Garden area and private beach you couldn’t really ask for much more.
The pool is lovely well looked after hotel is clean everywhere
It is quite expensive, but it’s very much worth it.
Loved the location and service. Staff were wonderful, very helpful and supportive.
Tidy and well serviced rooms.
Views, proximity to a private beach, town and South West Coast Path.
Breakfasts were good, nice bar and lounge area.
We paid for a 'Superior Double' Room which was small and in that context, poor value and below expectations. We also paid for e 'Deluxe Double (Twin)' room, which was even smaller, also not particularly good value for its size.
Facilities were consistent with a 3 Star Hotel but small things like a kettle that boiled under the TV and a coffee machine with a detachable water tank, right next to 13A electrical sockets, did not impress.
The en-suite shower room became dripping with condensation, after each use. The floor becoming dangerous and slippery, when wet. The extractor fan just seemed to make nose and do very little extracting.
The shower drain blocked after first use. This was however resolved in an afternoon, by the hotel.
The noises from the adjacent room toilet, sink and shower, were loud and extremely intrusive.
Having to get drinking water in jugs, from the bar was a bit of pain. Guests are advised not to drink the tap water.
Car parking is limited.
The location, the exceptional staff, the evening meal.
My single room was rather small.
Our second stay at The Grand Hotel I. Swanage. Fantastic location with great views and lovely walk along the seafront into Swanage.
All of the staff are friendly and welcoming.
It’s a beautiful hotel in an absolutely beautiful spot. The views, the garden area, the beach and beach cafe were brilliant and staff were efficient and friendly. Would have liked a way to lock the room door from the inside. We had a sea view room and would have loved a little fridge in it, especially as it was a heatwave. It was all really clean.
Great views, and spot on beach
Great 4 day stay. Love the hotel and its amazing view. Lovely staff, very welcoming. Excellent breakfast too. We will be back again next year.
Great staff, fabulous location
I couldn't stay longer, lol
Great sea view, but for the price of the room, it was tiny
bed boinged every roll, no room service, room not made up after first night, not tea, towles or water refreshed
