Hotel Ipanema

I liked everything about this hotel. A charming courtyard, friendly helpful staff,lovely room with balcony and seaview. Taormina was easily accessible via a cable car close by.

Overall this a nice hotel in need of investment to bring it into the 21st century. The hotel is located in Taromina Mare, just a short walk from the beach. The main town of Taromina is located above up steap stairs or via the cable car. The staff are all very friendly and helpful.
Rooms:-
The rooms are dated and run down, but are off a good size. Nice storage space is provided. A small balcony, with side-sea views from all rooms. The bathroom needs investment, the shower is weak and very dated. The shower screen was very loose, which put us off using it and we felt touching it would cause it to fall off. So we put up with a wet bathroom everyday.
Dining area:-
For a four-star hotel the breakfast should be better. Tinned fruit is a no-no for four-star. The coffee was also weak, not the high standard expected in Italy. When you enter the dining room you get shown to your table, higher standards which are not needed when the lower hotel standards let you down. Overall, this could be a good breakfast with better quality produce. The decoration of the place, just like the bar area can only be described as an retirement home.
Poor area:-
Split on two level; sun deck on on and the swimming pool on the other. The sun deck was of a good size and captures the sun well, being on the roof. It is a nice and quiet, relaxing area. The hotel has a rule of no outside drinks in these areas, but if you want to inforce this a pool bar should be provided, expecting guests to walk to reception, on the ground floor is a stupid idea.
Overall, if investment was made, this could be a very good four-star hotel, but until that time, expect three-star.

The Ipanema Hotel Taormina, Sicily is a traditional Sicilian Hotel with wood panelling. The rooms are spacious with wardrobe space, dressing table, mirrors, comfy beds. There are plug sockets and lights next to the bed. The bathroom is small but all modern plumbing and good lighting. All rooms have a balcony which has a sea view and the sun all day. They also have air con, a tv and a safe. The doors are locked with a real key.
The rooms are cleaned daily with fresh bedding and towels. It has a bar and lots of comfy seating.
The pool is rooftop and private (no other hotels look onto it) a sun terrace with lots of sun beds, changing room and toilet.
The staff are welcoming and friendly.
The hotel is situated just a few minutes walk from the village restaurants, pharmacy and mini market. (You can get freshly made sandwiches and essentials here). Also a few minutes walk there is the cable car to main Taormina town, (€10 return ticket) car rentals (€80 per day) and boat trips. It is also on a bus route. There are no paths on the small road and it is quite hilly but this adds to the traditional feel of being in Sicily.
The beautiful Isola Bella is within walking distance with other beaches. Although these are busy pebbled beaches it is great for snorkelling.
The views from all of Taormina are beautiful. You can also walk up the many steps to main Taormina town where there are gardens, markets and historical sites.
We had an amazing holiday in a beautiful place and were totally satisfied with the lovely Ipanema Hotel.

El hotel parecía de los años 70, tenía encanto, sobre todo la terraza y la pequeña piscina. También la terraza a la entrada del hotel. El desayuno estaba bien. Limpieza. Y buena atención del personal.

I stayed here last week for a week with Tui with a friend. The staff are lovely and the hotel is in a great location. Stunning views from the balconies but the food is dreadful. We were half board so breakfast and dinner. Breakfast, tinned pineapple and there was some fresh fish but the pasta wasn't even good. There are no kettles or tea and coffee in the rooms and no water and the bar only opens certain times so not lots of options. When asked for a kettle they refused. The pool is okay, not many loungers and if you have mobility issues to get to the pool you have to climb lots of stars. Rooms basic and bathrooms really need updated and walls paper thin so you can hear TVs next door and people talk. Sorry would never want to stay there again.

Professional staff, always kind and helpful. Good location: near both to the bus stop and the cable car to Taormina city center.

Stayed for 7 nights with my brother and had a bit of a birthday /holiday.
When we got to the hotel we were greeted by a lovely lady at the desk her name is Christine who was so welcoming & had so much knowledge about the local area & places to go & see, her customer service skills were nothing but exceptional.
Our rooms were cleaned daily with clean towels & beds were made , housekeeping are so efficient (Thank You ) .
Our rooms led out onto balcony’s which were great to sit out on & watch the sun & look out into the sea which was a nice view.
The hotel has a lovely roof terrace where we could relax on the sunbeds & soak up the sun which I really enjoyed , and upstairs was a pool where you could cool down & chill.
For breakfast we could get juice & hot drinks , pastries , fruits & yogurt.
The staff were all very polite. The hotel itself has a traditional charm to it , at the entrance there are seats & swinging chairs where you could relax & there is also a bar.
The hotel is situated not far from places to eat & local shops & beaches. The cable cars which run every 15 minutes which take you up into Taormina town which is great for shopping , restaurants & nighlife. I would highly recommend this hotel & if going back to Sicily I would stay again. Thank you for making our stay worthwhile.

After reading the reviews I was not expecting this hotel to be as good as it was!
It is tired, but spotlessly clean, and in a great location which are the things we as a couple value the most! Every room provides a lateral wonderful view of the sea and has a small balcony.
Christina on reception provides excellent advice on trips, restaurants etc and Mario the barman is a wonderful character. The buffet style breakfast is basic and consists of meats, cheeses, bread and pastries and cereals.
There is a roof top pool and a sun terrace if you don’t want to go to the beach.
The one negative is it can be noisy if you have loud room neighbours so take some earplugs!
