Fantastic room, spotlessly clean & spacious - Stunning hotel location, went for few lovely long walks with breathtaking views of the cliffs & the sea
In the last week we have eaten here twice and on both occasions we have been served cold food.
On our first visit last week, three of the four main meals were cold and the fourth partly cold. I left a complaint at the front desk and the manager kindly phoned me and reassured me that things would be better, so we booked again.
Yesterday, things were better, but still not good enough. The starters were warm and delicious. Our main courses consisted of chicken Kiev and a veggie burger, both of which were warm, and two beef burgers. For the latter, the chips were hot but the burgers were tepid. A wait for cutlery didn’t help, and shouldn’t have happened, but the food must have even sat around in the kitchen for too long before being finished. I could have complained again but then we would not have been able to eat together if we had sent two meals back.
It was busy, but that’s not the point. There are systemic issues in the kitchen and I will not be going back.
It pains me to give two stars to somewhere we have enjoyed many times before, but they blew their second chance and there is no justification for serving cold food.
Found the rooms very comfortable and very clean. Towels and robes for the swimming pool. Fantastic sea views and lovely to keep the window open at night and hear the sea! I love that it’s an older building and hope it doesn’t loose its charm with the renovations. Breakfast had a huge variety, but the buffet wasn’t replenished quickly enough. Food was very good. Staff not overly friendly apart from the housekeeping team who were so friendly and helpful. Yes I hope to return, bet it’s amazing in the Summer!
Three night deal good value.
Garden room very spacious but no opening windows and being south facing would get very hot in summer.
Vista Lounge has more character than the main restaurant.
Limited dinner choices, no daily specials.
Dog charge bit excessive.
We have just come back from a stay at the Polurrian and I’m going to give my honest feedback.
Starting with the hotel itself. Be under no illusion, this hotel is undergoing huge renovations. So despite their website making it out like it doesn’t really affect anything there is a lot of work going on. We drove in to be greeted by a sky high crane and lots of diggers. The car park is very limited because the overflow is not in use due to the works at one point the car park was completely jammed full with people queuing to get in. The car park is a bad design so at one end it’s quite slim and getting in and out of spaces at that end is challenging.
Let’s talk about the room. We stayed in a first floor sea view (digger view) room. The room itself is tired and dated however it was very clean. The bathroom was very dated also. There is tea and coffee in the room but only one chair so one of us had to sit on the bed. The bed was huge and super comfy! The blind mechanism in the room was rusty and I couldn’t pull the blinds down. The rooms are very noisy we had kids next door screaming and running about the corridor and the doors slam very loudly. They also tell you there’s complimentary WiFi in your room but it didn’t work at all for any of our stay. We complained when we checked out but they didn’t really care and no refund was offered.
I didn’t use the restaurant as we had a dog with us but it looked really nice. We ate breakfasts and evening meals in the Vista Lounge. The food was tasty, fresh and a good selection. The sweet menu is a bit limited. Breakfasts also very tasty. I had full English and the quality of the food was good. Continental was also lovely. The coffee machines are a pain. One of the was out of order so people queuing up for coffee. The Vista Lounge is well used by locals it seems but it’s quite noisy. On our first night there was a DJ playing which wasn’t too loud when we were in the lounge but when we went up to our room it was like trying to sleep above a nightclub in Ibiza so we had to complain. They did turn it down but not for an hour after we complained. They have live music on Sunday nights so god only knows how loud that will be in the sea view rooms.
The swimming pool is tired. You have to book a swim time and it’s first come first served. It’s not a great pool.
The hotel itself is tired, hence the works I guess but it is distinctly lacking in places to relax for residents unless you want to sit on the couple of sofas in the vista lounge but it’s noisy.
The staff on reception weren’t rude but not overly pleasant or helpful. The staff in the vista lounge were lovely, especially the breakfast team.
The walk down to the cove was really easy, avoid the steps and go round the path is my advice!
Overall this hotel was fine, it’s just tired. I have no idea how they have a 4 star rating. It is not 4 star, the whole experience was lacking.its more of a 3 star stay.
I write this review because I relied on the reviews already in place for the hotel and I think there needs to be a bit more of a balanced view.
Would I stay again? No. I live in Cornwall but I wouldn’t stay again.
Was it a terrible stay? No it was ok, just ok.
Was it a 4 star stay? Absolutely not.
Would I recommend a hotel stay to friends and family? No
Would I recommend a meal to family and friends? Yes if nearby but not something you would make a special trip for.
Our stay was so disappointing.
Our main issues were the quality of food and the delays in service.
On our second morning - the breakfast room was much busier than it had been. There were two coffee machines but one was out of order - so there were huge queues for the coffee - when we eventually got our coffee it was cold. Breakfast was a disaster I had the full English with scrambled eggs - I think our order had been forgotten as we waited over half an hour - when the breakfast did arrive there was no apology from the waitress for the delay and we were not offered sauces. My wife's breakfast of avocado on toast the toast had not been toasted so she just had avocado on bread.
Our evening meals were not a lot better - my fish and chips - the fish was not cooked in the middle.
We said we would like the service clean but we only received this once during our three night stay.
At £375 per night we expected so much more - we will not be back.
As Polurrian on the Lizard is our favourite hotel, we decided to treat ourselves to a couple of days away, during 'twixtmas', and we were not disappointed. The atmosphere was lovely and cosy, with live music in the lounge on the Sunday afternoon. We ate in the Vista both nights, and the food was excellent - we really didn't want to leave!
Great place for a party venue, good service, excellent sea facing room, will be booking again for 2026.
We held our Christmas Party at Polurrian. We last visited for the same a couple of years ago. The food was exceptional, piping hot, delicious, just perfect.
Wonderful, genteel hotel with friendly staff, a great breakfast after a good night's sleep and a genuinely breathaking clifftop location. And good value for money too!
Despite living fairly local, we were desperate for few days away from the building site that is currently our home and the timing also coincided with a 10 year anniversary.
We opted to stay in the self catering bungalow ‘Shearwater’ for a 3 night break and what a treat it was.
The staff were warm, welcoming and friendly, from checking in, to grabbing a drink at the bar.
The accommodation was perfect, spotless even! A double bed, separate bunk beds, all the equipment you could possibly need for a self catering break and dog treats were also provided!
The weather could have been better, but watching the storms and huge waves from the comfort of the sofa and hot tub, well, it was just fantastic.
The beach is a short walk away and is definitely worth a wander down. It’s dramatic yet peaceful and a real hidden gem.
Breakfast was superb everyday, excellent quality. I also highly recommend having a Sunday roast in the vista and taking advantage of the live music. With the sea doing its thing as a back drop, music in the air and fantastic food, Polurrian is such a special place to visit and stay.
We’re already planning a villa with family and friends for next year.
Thanks for the reset Polurrian!
Lovely hotel with comfortable rooms and beds. Excellent staff professional and friendly
Good food in the restaurant and very good breakfast with plenty of choice
This was our fourth visit and we will be back
We have been visiting this hotel for over 20 years and have seen a number of major changes, not all of which we appreciate, but the location is excellent, the rooms comfortable, and the restaurant serves good food. It is ideal for walking and exploring the Lizard and other local areas. The friendly staff are always on hand to assist.
Once again, a fabulous short break at the Polurrian Hotel. The warm welcome from Maggie and the team on reception is always a good start and things just get better from then onwards.. A lovely room on the ground floor with a great view of the Atlantic, a very comfortable bed and a well appointed bathroom.
The food was excellent with a wide choice on the menu in both the restaurant and the Vista. The breakfast choice is also extensive - with choices for all palates.
I took advantage of the discount on the Coastal Calm spa treatment courtesy of the lovely Lucy ( who has magic in her hands !) and it was absolutely sublime.
It has to be said that this is one of my favourite places to visit - everything is done so well and you come away feeling refreshed and relaxed.
We have stayed on a few occasions. Lovely hotel, amazing sea views, nice walk to the beach and walk along the cliff.
Room very clean, bed comfortable, food nice.
Definitely a good calm and peaceful stay
Staff lovely , Maggie in Reception very pleasant and helpful
We stayed here taking advantage of their Winter Offer (DBB for £149). Excellent value for money and the accommodation and food quality exceeded our expectations. We had the heated indoor pool & jacuzzi to ourselves. The staff were all so friendly. We would certainly stay again.
Our wider family group of 8 enjoyed the excellent welcome and service in the hotel and restaurant that helped us mark what was a slightly sombre occasion for us.
We live local so treated ourselves to lunch. Hotel gad s lunch offer for this month . We had fish as bd chips which was presented beautifully but piece of fish was as approx 3 inches x 2 inches.
Disappointed as this was a treat.
Service with a smile. Fabulous location and views. Terrific night's sleep. Great shower. We had the most amazing time. Thank you.
Beautiful hotel lovely staff views to die for. Restaurant serves a good menu with delicious food . Lovely little beach in walking distance or coastal paths if you wish to go on a longer walk. Will definitely be staying here again
