Very clean hotel and room, very friendly staff
I met my cousin for lunch in the Samphire restaurant, it was fabulous. Amazing food, clean environment & attentive staff
We had booked their Lovers offer for Valentines night. If we could give 11/10 we would . From the greeting from the receptionist to our extremely well appointed bedroom . Again every member staff in the restaurant were excellent . The menu ( dinner was included in our offer ) which we thought might be small in portion was far from it excellent choice size and taste . Attentive service without being intrusive perfect . There was a live singer which was perfect . We had one or seven drinks which were very good only criticism would be the price although we had a free cocktail included. Free parking for booking direct .
Breakfast was good a self service buffet but could order certain items from menu . Same staff so again excellent service . We could not fault our stay and will definitely return ( especially if there is an offer on )
Thank You The County Hotel Chelmsford
Stayed here overnight on 4/2 . We were attending a funeral during day.Having arrived at 10.00am we went to reception to book our car in and advise the receptionist that we had arrived early due to attending the funeral .I cannot recall the ladies name but she was very welcoming, helpful and kind .She checked and our room was ready so allowed us to check in and freshen up before the funeral. A very lovely gesture on a difficult day .We had coffee in the bar and then the same lady rang a taxi for us. After a difficult day 6 of us who had been at the funeral met for dinner in the restaurant . We were looked after very well by Tilly who had only recent started her job. The restaurant was warm and inviting . We went on to enjoy an excellent meal , the food was delicious, all served hot and freshly cooked. A small issue with the wine was dealt with smoothly and professionally. It was a very pleasant dining experience after a long day . My husband and I enjoyed an enjoyable breakfast the next morning. We stayed in room 39 which was spotlessly clean ,well equipped and very comfortable .Amazing bathroom . We have stayed at the County before and always had good service but on this occasion every member of staff we encountered were friendly, welcoming , kind and helpful and along with the warm ambiance of the hotel made a difficult day a little easier . Thank you to all the staff .We highly recommend the County and look foward to staying again in happier circumstances
My daughter and I visited The County Hotel bar twice in January before attending shows at Chelmsford Theatre, and both visits were excellent.
We’re based in Greenwich but travel around the country following live shows, and this was our first time in Chelmsford. We originally chose the hotel as a convenient meeting place over coffee — but what was meant to be a quick stop turned into a relaxed four-hour stay with lunch for my daughter and dinner for us both. We enjoyed it so much that we returned the following week for pre-show dining.
On both occasions the food and service were first class, and we felt the menu offered very good value. The location is perfect for theatre visits, with good parking and a calm, quiet atmosphere that makes it ideal for meeting and relaxing before a show.
My daughter is a permanent wheelchair user, and we were pleased to find accessibility well considered, which made the whole experience comfortable and stress-free.
We’ll definitely return on future trips to Chelmsford — pre-show dining here is now part of the plan.
Highly recommended.
Had a lovely lunch in the Samphire Restaurant, food was exceptional particularly the fish and chips and the friendly, attentive service provided by Laurence was second to none.
Laurence was friendly, efficient and kind. She is a credit to The County.
Visited for a family meal this week where we received fantastic service in the restaurant from Tilly, who showed real pride in her work. Lovely food and atmosphere.
Fantastic service from the reception and restaurant staff.
My large double room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable.
Food in the restaurant is delicious. There is an excellent choice for breakfast.
The only issue was the inconsiderate noisy Masons in the property below my room.
Excellent afternoon tea with my friends and family. All the staff were very helpful and friendly.
I would recommend this venue.
I when today to the bar to have something to heat, I had a BLT baguette, the stuff work at the bar she is a French girl, she was very professional and the service was very fantastic, definitely I will be back again thanks again
After an evening out in Chelmsford, I booked a room here after missing my train back to Frinton. When I arrived, the front door was locked, reception was completely unmanned, and despite pressing the buzzer repeatedly for around 20 minutes, nobody appeared. I eventually had no choice but to spend £140 on a taxi home.
I contacted the hotel through Booking.com to explain what happened, but they responded by saying they couldn’t authorise a refund. The customer service has been absolutely unacceptable. Save your money — I certainly won’t be booking here again, and I’ll be taking this further with Booking.com.
Came for New Year eve for dinner and overnight stay
Great value, food superb and Laurence was fantastic. Can't fault her at all. Amelia was the drinks waitress and she managed the crowded dance floor like Ginger Rogers!
Returned to the County Hotel for the 3rd year in a row for our office Christmas lunch. Nothing is too much trouble for Emma in sales. Its easy to book and make any updates. The location is perfect with parking available and for those that don't want to drive its close to public transport On the day the team are friendly, attentive and happy to help. Food is fantastic and good value for money.
The County Hotel kindly hosted our charity's Christmas party this year and it was the best experience we have had in years. They made our staff feel like VIPs for the evening with a beautifully decorated private room, amazing food and attentive servers and hosts. We would love to come back again, what a gem in Chelmsford. A huge thank you to Luis and the team for going above and beyond.
A very good experience - when I arrived they hadn't got that I needed a level access room with a walk in shower and the lift only goes to the first floor. The young lady on reception almost immediately apologised and found me an upgraded room on the first floor (with walk in shower) It was a lovely room with 2 small double beds, very spacious and a very large bathroom. There was a proper dressing table, full length mirror, fluffy white towels and free bottled water.
Everything about the room was good.
Breakfast in the morning was excellent - I had eggs royale and my colleague had a cheese and mushroom omelette, another colleague had full English - all delicious.
The only snag is the car park which seems perpetually full and few disabled spaces.
I would definitely stay here again when in business in Chelmsford.
Excellent, clean and welcoming hotel. Quiet and comfortable room. Breakfast brightened by the very friendly and efficient Chris. Keep it up!
I recently visited after reserving a table in the Rainsford Bar for a group of 6 people. The table was ready and we were greeted on arrival. The staff were friendly and service was excellent. We ordered from the bar menu and the food was lovely. Good portion size, beautifully presented and delicious.
The food and drink was also reasonably priced. We have used the hotel for meetings for many years, but it was lovely to spend a relaxing time there with lunch. Would definitely recommend.
Always a pleasure visiting The County Hotel. We had great service today from Laurene (I hope I have that correct), who was very attentive, very keen to provide good service, and a smile to keep things nicely jogging along. We had everything we wanted with no big deals on the service.
Such a pleasure, thank you.
The County Hotel opened its doors to our Charity for our Christmas Dinner this week. I cannot thank them enough. Each and every staff member fed back that it was the best Christmas meal they had had at any event. The staff, Luis, Ben and Amelia were so attentive and professional. It is not an easy thing - pleasing all the people all the time - but the County Hotel nailed it!
Stayed here as we were attending a graduation at ARU. Travelling as a family we opted for one of the parents - while not physically in the hotel it was perfect for our needs.
The highlight of the stay was breakfast each morning - the food was good - but made better by Chris. I’m not a morning person but she brightened our day. Chatty and engaging, a lovely person that made us feel welcomed. Remembering names and taking a genuine interest. Chris made the stay for us.
