Freestyle Resort Port Douglas

Lovely stay at the Freestyle. The owners are super helpful and very passionate and knowledgable about the area too. It was super quiet when we stayed so we had the pool to ourselves most days which was great. Our room was looking a little dated and and maybe in need of a little upgrade. (I think some roos were being done whilst we were there). However, I wouldn't let that put you off staying. We would definitely stay here again.

Ann gave us a very friendly welcome, providing us with lots of information on the local area.

We had a room overlooking the back of the hotel, as Ann said it would be quieter than overlooking the pool as families staying. The view was into the trees and into the next property, not the best views, but appreciated the sentiment for the allocation.

Furniture and mattress in our room all recently replaced, so fresh and clean.

The kitchen has a small hob and combination microwave, we would have preferred to have a small oven, but that is our personal choice.

There is a BBQ on site, we didnt use as it didnt look very clean, plus wasnt sure how it would work if lots of guests wanted to use at a similar time.

About 10 minutes walk from restaurants and marina. 5 minute walk to the beach.

Swimming pool was nice, and a good way to cool off on return from day trips.

Overall enjoyed our stay, slightly better kitchen facilities would have made it a 5/5 for us, but would recommdend as a good place to stay.

The location is great. Walking distance to the shops, cafes and bars. The pool was nice and the staff friendly.

The owners were absolutely lovely and really helpful. The pool was beautiful and the rooms were nice and clean.

I had a lovely relaxing stay at the Freestyle Resort. Anne was very welcoming and arranged my airport transfers for me and organised for my Coles online delivery to be put away before I arrived which much appreciated. Was very nice to have some food waiting for me when I arrived. My apartment was immaculately clean and very comfortable. The pool area was beautiful and inviting and the water was like a warm bath. Absolutely lovely! Great location too, just a 10 minute stroll from the main street and about 7-8 minutes from the beach. A great place to stay that's not super expensive.

I stayed for 5 nights at The Freestyle Resort in October. The room was spacious, clean and well equipped. I also had a balcony overlooking the pool. Anne was wonderful to me. She confirmed trips and pick ups for me and was always around for a chat. She really put me at ease, as I was travelling on my own.

We had a lovely stay in Port Douglas and stayed at Freestyle for three nights. Upon arrival, Anne was very warm and welcoming advising us of the local amenities and walking routes.

We had a comfortable room, although somewhat dated and in need of modernisation, the room was clean and had everything we needed including a small kitchenette. There was also a TV, sofa and chairs.

We were excited to stay at Freestyle Resort in Port Douglas. We contacted the manager in advance of our arrival as we needed a late check-in.
Comprehensive instructions were provided, which made our arrival seamless.
The pool area was attractive.
Sadly, that's where the positives end.
The apartment was dated and chairs dressed with illl fitting covers or pool towels. There were numerous cleanliness and maintenance issues, including dirty,greasy crockery,cutlery, and glassware on arrival. These needed to be washed before use. It's not ideal late at night,after a long day travelling. We were given a voucher for a coffee and pastry as compensation for this issue. We also had to prompt the manager regarding the lack of the scheduled mid stay clean, which did not take place when it was supposed to.
I raised the issues with the manager, who did say she would have offered us another apartment,if available, if we had told her during our stay. Looking at other reviews, which also share some of the issues we faced, we did not feel that moving to another apartment would improve our situation after we had already cleaned the one we were given.
At check out, I did mention the issues to the manager and suggested that the apartment needed to be looked at with a critical eye so that the cleaning and maintenance issues could be fully identified and addressed.

The apartment on the whole was very shabby and in need of an entire update and clean. Towels were used to cover the chairs in the lounge. The en-suite shower was dirty and needed a good clean. I did this myself. Not something I want to do when on holiday. We booked for 4 nights. Wish it was 1.
The reception area is very messy. Don’t be fooled by the photographs.

We arrived just before the check-in time was due to expire and felt that the Receptionist wanted to get home rather than be at the hotel welcoming guests!!!

Really needs a refresh up - our lounge was covered in a random mattresses protector that did not match.
It was clean - a long walk to Macrossan Street and beach.

Very disappointed with our stay. The apartment was outdated and bore little resemblance to the advertising photos. Furniture was worn (the couch was covered with towels), and maintenance was clearly neglected.

When we raised concerns, the receptionist was dismissive and even told us “you can go somewhere else” before backtracking. This was unprofessional and left a poor impression.

Amenities were substandard: the TV barely worked, Wi-Fi was unreliable, and shutters without glass let in constant road noise. End apartments are particularly bad, as you’re exposed to second-hand smoke from outside.

Overall, the reviews and photos felt misleading. Rooms are inconsistent—you might get a slightly better one, but others are in very poor condition. For the price, there are far better options in Port Douglas. We will not be returning.

Shortish walk to main street, beach and facilities. Anne, our host was very friendly.
