Room was neat and cozy.
Space for clothing was very limited. No closet.
I honestly don’t know what to say.
We arrived at this hotel at around 8:00 PM after a 16-hour non-stop bus journey. We were extremely exhausted. Our reservation was confirmed, and everything was supposed to be straightforward.
However, when we arrived, the receptionist refused to let us check in because my sister is under 18 years old and, according to them, she needed written consent from our father.
What made the situation even more frustrating is that my mother, my brother, and I were all with her. Our passports clearly show that we are siblings through our full names, and my mother’s name is listed as our mother. Despite this, the receptionist refused to acknowledge these obvious family relationships.
Instead of trying to find a solution, the very first thing she said was, “Should I cancel your reservation and refund your money?” I was shocked by this attitude. When I booked through Booking.com, there was absolutely no notice or warning that a minor traveling with her mother and siblings would require written consent from her father.
For comparison, we had just stayed in Bangkok before coming here, and we had absolutely no problems checking into our hotel under the exact same circumstances.
After a long argument, we spent more than two hours making phone calls to our family and to the Saudi authorities to obtain and send our family registration documents and birth certificate to prove our relationship. We were already exhausted from our journey, yet the staff showed no understanding or compassion.
To make matters even more suspicious, one day before our arrival, the hotel tried to cancel our reservation, claiming there was maintenance work. I refused the cancellation, and when we arrived, there was clearly no maintenance taking place at all.
This makes me seriously question whether we were treated unfairly because of our nationality or because we had booked the room at a very good discounted price through Booking.com.
