I paid for a double room and initialy I came on my own. Prices on their website are not different if you come with 1 or 2 persons. My wife came later as a surprise and needed to pay 25 euros extra per night. Bad practice...
Don't usually leave reviews but had to on this occasion. Had booked this hotel on an all inclusive basis 10 nights for 13 of us, 5 of which children. Before our holiday we were horrified reading some of the reviews saying how bad this place was to the point we tried to change accommodation, we were told it was too late & we couldn't, this actually turned out to be a good thing.
Yes it's not what i've experienced before with 5 star, the decor is rather dated but the rooms were clean and a really good size for families, the all inclusive use of the other hotels was brilliant and the staff were really friendly.
Food was good, kids always found something to eat in one of the many options across the hotels.
We had no issue with noise from the strip or from other guests (which I was concerned about having younger children).
Only down side was at this particular hotel the all inclusive drinks/bar closes at 10pm including soft drinks which I've never came across before but there is shops right outside to get water etc.
I can honestly say I was really worried before our trip but we had no problems and was pleasantly surprised.
My reason for the 4 stars - decor needs a revamp to make it 5 and the facilities should be open later than 10pm.
Room was right next to the strip could hear it all night like I was in a nightclub.
Our room got burgled, door got kicked through conveniently as soon as we left for tea at 7PM big coincidence that the cleaner was lurking around doing nothing at that time very odd.
Everyone got burgled on the annex/top floor. So we left early.
Would not recommend. Hotel is 3star tops and that is generous. There’s no security or anything your left to fend for yourself.
Don’t waste your time here.
The hotel is absolutely gorgeous and the staff were amazing to us from the moment we arrived.
If I come to Portugal again, i definitely will be staying here again.
We opted for breakfast and dinner included, and the food was varied and delicious!
Sandeep in particular from the wait staff was very kind, friendly, and attentive.
Would absolutely recommend!
LOCATION: Good location, close to convenience store and eateries all on 1 road.Bus stop just outside hotel 5 min walk. Beach 15 min walk away.
CHECK IN/WELCOME: Reception beautiful very large seating area and nice welcome however check in is late at 4.00pm. No signage for reception at front tof hotel after drop off, payment required for city tax, breaksges in room, safe, towels: payment required up front instead of just charging your card at the end of stay.
CONFUSION: The advertised hotel and all it's restaurants and facilities are across 4 different sites not in 1 location,
HOTEL ROOM: Beautiful bed but very high, dark room, old safe with clunky key/lock 20 euro deposit,, a bit dusty on some surfaces, large kitchen areas with good appliances and cookware, nice balcony with table and chairs and rack for hanging out washed clothes, no tea or waters upon check in, iron, dustpan and mop within the room. microwave and fridge, iron and iron board within room. No full length mirror, no peepholes in rooms, dim lighting in room, phone
CUSTOMER SERVICE: No general manager and some staff not able to understand questions due to language barrier, was not made aware of the different hotel sites, how to book speciality restaurants , how to exit main site(card is needed to exit) due to security gate, not told that water not available and towels carry a charge
HOTEL LAYOUT:The advertised hotel and all it's restaurants and facilities are across 4 different sites , we were not advised of this on check in. To get to the other site adjacent there is a walk at the back and not signed very clearly. There is a step up to rooms and to reception- easy to trip.To get to the other sites you have to fully exit the site. majority of speciality restaurants at top of steep hill which they are currently working on, hopefully lift access will be available in future as quite a walk for people with less mobility.
AMENITIES: No water provided by hotel, extortionate charge for towels for the week, There is another seating area right next to pool but I can't see the rest of guests because a portion and there's chairs near the kids play area but they are indoor sofas and we're covered by the near tree sap, also seculed away from other guests, no benches outside of front of hotel to rest. The pool area only opens at 9.30 am.
HOTEL ENTERTAINMENT: Not enough chairs in evening, the entertainment space is small and by the pool. only 1 hour entertainment each night (karaoke, opera, singing) and bar closed at 10pm with lights being switched off and guests left outside on evening
HOTEL CLEANLINESS: overall clean however a cat was around the outside eating area approaching guests when eating, snacks by poolside (burgers etc) were left out by not covered so left to open air and insects. Plastic cups sometimes dirty with leftover juice
FOOD: Have to book all speciality restaurants through Reception . Normal in house restaurant seated by staff, friendly staff overall, food mid to cold but microwave provided, food good but not covered - e.g charcuterie board left uncovered, the grilled food was amazing,The speciality restaurants are a 15 min walk down to the other site whereby it's cobblestones down a hill and back up to the primary hotel site. shorter meal times and no drinks are available after 11pm. in house food quite receptive but okay. Great breakfast selection, good selection of alcoholic drinks, cocktails and wine,
SUGGESTED IMPROVEMENTS: Earlier check in, clear explanation of towels, water, about the 4 different sites, free shuttle between sites, proper clear coloured map of all the sites, an app to book speciality restaurants, allow people tos sit where they want, for early check outs complimentary breakfast snack box should be provided and guests should have access to sandwiches upon check in- we saw this was offered on 1 day but wasn't present on our check in day, add more hangers to the wardrobe, tea bags and complimentary water in room on check in , put a bench at front entrance of hotel, have juice available in reception- not just hot drinks as per the machine, longer drink and own restaurant opening times, earlier pool opening times on certain days for earlier swim, signage on the step ups on hotel rooms and reception entry to avoid tripping, fresh plastic cups, porters for luggage, hotter food, more
righter lights needed in room, front signage outside hotel for reception location, art on walls in rooms, a booklet should be included in all rooms to advise on introductory things if not available to tell every guest upon reception check in.
Absolutely amazing hotel, friendly staff and best bar staff was Amir 🙌 top guy and food was lovely, my fave was the Mexican 😋 apart from having to move room because the trees in front and I have an allergy of pollen which we told LoveHolidays but they dont communicate with them properly so there will be complaints for LoveHolidays... defo would come here again tho but self catering next time ❤️
Best entertainment! Edgar and rosemary are Friendly and fun! Guaranteed to have laugh. 10/10 entertainment. 100% recommend. Bingo night was amazing. Full of laughs and brilliant with the kids.
absolutely amazing staff marcell and marie went above and beyond to accommodate our needs rooms are big plenty of room kind staff clean had a room to keep our stuff and is surrounded by everything you could possibly need
We actually stayed in forte da oura but with the sister hotels you can move between them and use the bars pools and restaurants. The stay was really good. We were in low season so the weather was a bit touch and go. The hotel was lovely enough tired in places but clean and pleasant enough. The staff were really friendly most of which speak really good English. The shop next door is handy and reasonable again manned with pleasant staff. Everything all round was just really nice. We were often at the Muthu gardens the grill house was our favourite. They do fish and chips. Italian. Mandarin. Mexican pirpir chick further down in the other hotel Indian and much more. This is included with the AI but they offer day passes etc. And you must book as it gets busy. The beach was beautiful a little choppy but clean. We managed to secure a lounger for an extra 19 euro but worth it. We booked to go to the zoomarine. Best day yet. Definitely go there. We also did the jeep safari with will he was brilliant too. Knows his stuff and made it all very fun and informative. We booked that from the shop next door to the supermarket. The lady was lovely in there also. She even leant me her jacket as I was not prepared for the clouds 😂 the waterfall was stunning. And a little cold in the winter season. We had all day so had lunch too and that was delicious. We booked also at the shop next to the pharmacy for the caves and dolphin search. Again a brilliant time and the staff tried so hard to find the dolphins. After a long search we finally found them which was amazing. The transfer was easy. The taxis to and from old town was all easy enough no navigate. Lovely welcoming place to go.
We landed 31st October and was told old town had put on festivities for Halloween and it was brilliant also. Old town is a beautiful place lots of history and lovely places to buy gifts.
The magic show was great, the kids loved it. Friendly staff , great food, would recommend.. Good value for money, will consider coming back again, reception staff were perfect especially Maria
Positives:
Apartments are clean and spacious
Beds are comfortable
Entertainment is decent
Pools are good
Short walk to beach
Lots of in house amenities
Getting full use of all MGM hotels in the area.
Negatives:
Repetitive food
Food that is potentially dangerous (undercooked etc)
Disgusting alcohol
Very sleazy bar staff in the neighbouring MGM Club Praia Da Oura hotel. My partner was physically grabbed by one member of staff (wasn't able to get his name unfortunately and she didn't want to cause a scene but he was a short, older man). Another instance of being looked up and down and harassed for her contact details by a bartender who went by JUNIOR (young man with dreads) and several other people also staying reported similar unsettling encounters with this "Junior" fellow. So if you're a female traveller, especially solo, be very wary of the bar staff in the Club Praia Da Oura hotel.
Lovely hotel, reception area and lobby is really nice. Unfortunately our tv had no connection to WiFi and I know your out and about doing things but if you want to sit down and watch any Netflix while resting you can't, had a big crack in the small mirror in my bathroom. My room was only made once or twice during my stay and my friend was made most days, I had left the sign on the door hoping it would be made and also I have a 2 year old and the door into the apartment was not child friendly at all he was very hard to keep in if I had to do anything there was no proper lock to lock it. However these didn't affect me having a lovely relaxing holiday and I found all the staff very friendly and polite.
Based on our recent 7-day stay, we found this hotel to be severely misrepresented as a 5-star property. Our experience was fraught with issues ranging from poor accessibility to subpar food, making it feel more like a 2 or 3-star hotel.
Cons - The Reasons for Our Low Rating
· Inaccessible & Insensitive for Disabled Guests: This was our most significant issue. The staff repeatedly referred to us as "handicapped" and "deficient," which is outdated and offensive. Furthermore, we were refused the hotel shuttle to another of their sites, with staff assuming we could walk the distance, showing a complete lack of understanding and care.
· Unacceptable Bathroom Design: The bathroom was so small it was practically unusable. The door opened directly into the shower cubicle, meaning you had to step into the shower just to close the door or access the toilet. This is a major safety hazard and a serious design flaw.
· Subpar Food Quality: The food at the 11 specialty restaurants was consistently disappointing. We describe it as "absolutely horrible." In seven days, we only had one good meal, which was outside the hotel. For an all-inclusive resort boasting multiple restaurants, this is unacceptable.
· Hidden Costs & Poor Services: A €100 deposit per room was demanded upon arrival, a charge that was nowhere specified during the booking process. Additionally, for a hotel that caters to international travellers, the inability to exchange currency was surprising and inconvenient.
· Poor Entertainment: The entertainment offerings were very limited and low quality, providing little to do during the evenings.
· Tacky Decor: The overall aesthetic and decorations felt cheap and dated, not aligning with the luxury image a 5-star hotel should project.
Pros - The Few Positive Notes
· Spacious Rooms: The bedroom itself was indeed very large and provided ample space to move around and store our luggage comfortably. This was the one feature that met expectations.
Overall Conclusion
We cannot recommend this hotel, especially for guests with mobility issues. The combination of insensitive staff, inaccessible facilities, hidden fees, and terrible food made for a very stressful and unpleasant holiday. The single pro of a large room does not compensate for the numerous and significant cons. The 5-star rating is, in our opinion, completely unjustified.
Rating: 2 / 5 Stars

Plenty of food choices for everyone. Ignore the negative reviews as there is nothing negative about this hotel
